Despite most people complaining about the lack of cod i have been keeping busy still with some nice thornbacks and lots of quality whiting which make for good eating and keep the rods nodding .
I have done it again just like last year and today just caught the first codling which was not huge but a sizeable 46cm and a nice fat fish.
I remain optimistic and my recent trips have seen all the anglers catching nice bags of fish and my recent reviews reflect the happy customers satisfaction.
Theres plenty of fish waiting out there people but you wont catch them from your armchairs .
The good thing about the area i operate is we seldom get blown off -

spring and summer have arrived along with some nice catches of smoothounds and skate .
we had a bonanza on the skate in early May when huge numbers arrived inshore we recorded catches of up to 100 in a day but they have now spread out a bit and made way for the hounds which is what summer is all about in the estuary.
plenty off bass around and large shoals showing on the fishfinder and birds diving are a good indicator .
feathering produces lots of small bass which is fun but all go back to swim away.
mackerel expected soon and from the 1st July we can retain 1 per angler
some huge hounds about and the females are heavy with pup so a chance of a record breaker is out there somewhere.
the recent charity competition for Demelza was a great day with the largest skate being recorded from my boat
and 21 boats and 96 anglers taking part in what will now become an annual event. -

Some nice whiting and dabs also showing but the cod have failed to show .
Smoothounds expected soon with reports of small males already putting in an appearance on some marks
Weekends filling up fast so book soon to avoid disapointment. -

Well guys a good start to the summer with tons of thornies which were very obliging then the hounds appeared and are still hungry for crab baits if you can get them.
Bass around in fair numbers to ragworm baits but beware the new rules from the fisheries board only 3 bass per angler and new size limit 42cm great news as this looks after our sport for the future.
Theres plenty fish out there guys but you wont catch any wathching the telly so give me a call and come out for a rewarding day. -

Well guys the summers here and to be honest the fishing this year just has not stopped.
The skate are here in abundance with some lovely specimins being caught up to very high double figures .
And now the hounds have arrived check out my latest photos we are having brilliant days with fish approaching 20lb and loads of others ranging from 5lb upwards with many over 10lb .
Also check out my my bass photos.
I had one last weekend of 8lb and one today of just short of 5lb and a few smaller schoolies.
Altogether this season has been the best for years and long may it continue.
Also we have had a couple of nice gurnards recently and just heard one of the boats today has landed a turbot.
Its all happening so book your trips quick as i am getting filled up fast -

Fished on Hurricane today with mein hosts Gareth & Will. Plenty of bites and plenty of codling. Great day had by all. Skipper gave his wealth of fishing experience to us all day. Which resulted in a very productive 8 hours.
Thanks Guy's. From the stinky bait gluggers -

Fishing remains very good with plenty codling showing in river medway and lets hope it lasts a bit longer.
No huge fish but just nice table size fish and plenty of these with most trips averaging 30 to 40 between 6 anglers with a good show of quality whiting mixed in also.
Its been a few years since we had such a good show of nice fish and happy punters all round.
The big advantage we have is that we can fish in all but the worst weather when all the boats round the coast are tied up .
Lots of happy customers is good news all round -

At last the fish have returned to the estuary now all the years of disturbance have stopped.
The main reason is the shrimps have returned and the fish are having a great time feeding up.
The good news is there are good catches of codling along with lots of thornbacks big whiting dabs and the return of the pouting.
I had a trip today on a very small tide of 4.7m usually not a good omen but i managed to find a good bag of fish for my customers.
We had 15 thornies 12 nice codling 1 massive tub gurnard loads whiting up to 2lb plus and some nice dabs and the welcome return of the humble pouting which tells me that the eco system is good.
Oh nearly forgot the usual spooy dogs .
All in all a brilliant day and a very happy bunch of lads .
And to top the day a large pod of pilot whales were in the area and a couple of the local boats escorted these away from the shipping lanes and the coastguard issued a radio warning to shipping.
All in all it seems that everything is getting in on the abundance of food in the estuary and it can only be good.
What a welcome releif us skippers have struggled for long enough.
