We locked out of the marina and headed to a mark up the river 4 ppl short due to the weather and not being able to make it. Dropped the anchor and began to fish. It didnt take long for the first fish of the day to be landed to Joe. Shortly after Darren landed his first Cod of the day weighing in at around 3lb 4ozs, with another follwoing suit at around 4lb, then Dean hooked into a cod weighing in at 3lb 9oz. The fishing was steady all day with plenty of Cod being boated, Eric managed to land 4 Cod to 3lb. Again plenty of Whiting and Dabs were caught. Mick landed a lovely whiting which was around 1lb 3ozs. Totals for the day were 12 Cod with numerous whiting and Dabs.

A good day was had by all.

    Tuesday 22nd January 2013 - Daiwa Trip -

Today we had Nick Hill(Diawa) bringing some local tackle shops out to try the Mersey for late Cod. These included Neil and Cliff From Taskers Angling Liverpool and John from The Fisherman Bait and Tackle Birkenhead.

We left the marina at 8am and headed up the river to the first mark of the day. It didnt take long for the first whiting of the day to come aboard and a first sea fish for neil who normally fishes for pike. Cliff followed suit shortly after with a dab. Nick wasnt to be outdone and landed whiting in quick succession. The first cod of the day came after about half an hour to neil which weighed in at 4lb 9oz. Plenty more Cod were pulled up until we decided to move. We headed to another mark in the river which also produced fish. With Neil pulling in more Cod, aswell as Nick and John. More whiting and Dabs were landed until it was time to head in.

The total for the day was 14 Cod to 4lb 12oz, plenty of whiting and plenty of Dabs.

THE COD ARE STILL HERE DESPITE REPORTS FROM OTHERS.

    Wednesday 9th January 2013 - Individs -

We locked out of the marina in glorious sunshine, but we could see the fog bank in the distance heading our way. We anchored up and began to fish. As with the previous couple of trips whiting and dabs were not to be the first fish of the day but a lovely 6 lb 4oz Thornback Ray. Plenty of whiting and dabs were boated but not in the quantities of yesterday. Some lovely Cod were brought in throughout the day. "H" and Fossil had decided to stay and double a double header from yesterdays trip, so with "H" already landed the Thornback, he decided to add a 7lb Cod to the list. Fossil not to be outdone by "H" had 2 cod in quick succession which is something of a rarity when he is fishing with us. As the day drew to a close Daz who had stuck a rod out boated a 6lb 4oz Cod, and Paul had a 5lbr. The total for the day was 8 Cod, 1 Thornback and plenty of Dabs and whiting.

    Tuesday 8th January 2013 - Worm Danglers/Individs

Todays trip was originally meant to be the worm danglers but with a few of the guys missing we added some individuals.

Fishing from the start was good, again plenty of Dabs and whiting until one of the guys pulled in the first cod of the day. As there was a pool at stake the everybody fished hard all day, Over slack there were the usual Dabs and whiting in great numbers. Throughout the whole day Cod were pulled in. "H" managed to pull in a Cod of 6lb 14oz, Tommy who seemed to be on fire all day was casually re baiting his rigs whilst watching The polar bears on bbc iplayer, everytime he sat down somebody shouted to him that his rod was banging away and another fish would come to the surface then back to baiting up watching the polar bears. As the day went on more Cod where boated. The total for the day was 16 Cod with the best of 6lb 14oz.

A good day was had by all

    Sunday 6th January 2013 - Benchmark Trophy -

Todays trip was for the annual Benchmark Winter Cod Trophy. We locked out of the marina and headed up the river, as we got towards the pierhead the fog was closing in and getting quite thick, so we decided to turn around and head down river until it lifted. However once we anchored up whiting and dabs were being pulled in every drop, until the first Cod of the day was pulled in shortly followed by a few more. The decision was made to stay put and not move.

With this Daz 2nd Skipper decided to stick a rod out at the front uptiding. It didnt take long for the Cod to begin feeding and he had a few whilst the lads where pulling Cod in to 6lb. As the lads had began to catch more Cod, Daz decided to call it a day, so whilst tidying up his rod began knocking. Once he had hooked the fish, i originally thought that he had hooked a smaller cod as his rod wasnt dipping like a big fish until it broke the surface and decided to dive back under the surface, a couple of times, it took about 10mins to get to the boat and then once at the side the net was lowered only for it to take another dive back under. Eventually when it came to the surface you could see that it was a big fish. Once we had taken the hook out of it, and put it on the scales it weighed in at 9lb 12oz.

We got the lads back to fishing and with everyone back in the water the cod began to show again. As the time disapperead it became apparent to everyone that Keiths 6lbr would take the trophy for this year. Although the guys boated 16 Cod for the day. Daz`s 9lb 12oz cod wasnt included into the count nor were his other fish, becuase we the crew dont fish the pools. Well done guys.

There was plenty of happy faces and plenty of fish for the guys to take home,

We look forward to seeing the guys in the summer.

    Saturday 5th January 2013

Locked out of the marina not knowing what to expect fish wise, as the amount of rain that we had before xmas had a knock on affect to the fishing.

We headed up the river to a mark that usually produces some nice Cod. It didnt take long for the whiting to make an appearance, shortly followed by the first Cod of the day. We had a few more after that, and decided to move out of the river and head up the channel. Plenty of decent sized whiting and nice dabs where boated until everybody had caught enough we decided to go back on the cod, this time heading downriver.

We went to an area that we have had some success on recently, but today wasnt to be the day and we ended the day on 7 cod with the best being 3lb 8oz. It was nice to hear that the big ones are still about as the boat next to us had a 9lb and 9lb 10oz.

Sunday 23rd December 2012 -Geoff and the Lads

We locked out of the marina for 8:00am, and headed up the river, with the weather conditions not ideal for the regular marks, we decided to try a different spot. Once we had anchored and got the lads sorted. It didnt take long for the first cod of the day to be pulled aboard, shortly followed by another. Fishing was slow all day due to the amount of fresh water in the river at the moment. Over the course of the day the lads had a few whiting and boated 11 Cod. With the present amount of freshwater the lads done really well to catch a fair few Cod with the most of them between 3-4lb mark.

Well done lads and see you all soon.
