    Friday 9th November 2012 - Individuals -

Today saw us briging some new and old faces back out aboard Discovery. We set off up the river and began fishing. The anglers who had been out before began fishing while the new faces amongst us were given a demonstration on bait and the rods/reels etc. It didnt take long for Fiona to catch the first Cod of the day weighing in at just under 2lb. H who was fishing at the front began pulling in some nice sized whiting untill he had his first cod of the day at 3lb, closely follwed by another of 2lb 6oz.
Plenty more Cod were pulled aboard with until Robbie who was fishing from a boat for the first time decided to hook into a lovely Cod that gave him a good fight right the way to the surface. It wasnt until we were unhooking the fish that we noticed another rig was hanging from the side of the cods mouth. The fish weighed in at 7lb 9oz. Daz was looking at the rig when he noticed that the rig was similar to the one that Nick who was fishing with us on wednesday used. So comparing the rigs that Nick had left with us and this rig showed that they were infact identical, the knots were the same, swivels hooks and the lenght. This may well have been the fish that Nick lost on wednesday and we hooked and landed it 2miles further down the river 2 days later. But credit to Robbie for landing such a lovely fish on his first time boat fishing. Total fish for the day was 13 cod to 7lb 9 oz with plenty of whiting and dabs.

    A superb day fishings

Best cod of the day was 3lb 8oz. Plenty of big whiting best being 1lb 8oz.

    Wednesday 7th November 2012

Today we had a mixed bag of anglers aboard. Some formed small groups others were individuals. We did however have Nick from our sponsors Diawa out with us today along with Shaun and Renee from Foxons tackle in St Asaph North Wales and Malcolm who works for Rovex Masterline. The fishing began well with Renee hooking and landing a lovely 6lb 9oz cod within the first half an hour of fishing. As the fishing went on throughout the day plenty of cod were being pulled in. Nick managed to hook into a lovely fish but his line snapped above the rig so we didnt get to see the fish. A few thornbacks were also landed to go with the hundreds of whiting that we boated. Total for the day. 11 cod to 6lb 9 oz, Thornbacks to 5lb, Dabs and over 150+ Whiting.

A cracking day with a good bunch of anglers

    Thursday 25th October 2012 - Chris Taylor -

We locked out of the marina just after high water and headed up the river. When we got to the first mark and anchored, we began to get the lads geared up. With the baits all in the water it didnt take long for the first fish of the day to be pulled aboard a thornback of 4lb 9oz falling to Sweep. After this everybody began boating whiting untill Chris pulled in the first cod of the day weighing in at 2lb 4oz. Not to be outdone Arthur began pulling in Cod to 3lb. With plenty of dabs whiting doggies and Cod, we decided a move was in order.

After anchoring more whiting and dabs were pulled aboard with a couple of nice Thornbacks to 7lb. As we apporached to last hour of the trip a few more Cod were pulled in by Arthur, Chris and Wayne. Total Cod for the trip was 11, with 3 Thornbacks, numerous whiting dogs and dabs.

Wednesday 24th October 2012 -Ray and the lads

We locked out of the marina and headed up the river to our first mark of the day. We dropped the anchor and got the lads fishing. It didn't take long for the whiting to make an appearance. Shortly after it didn't take ray long to hook and land a 2lb 4 oz cod. Some big whiting we're landed and as slack water approached Keith hooked into and boated a lovely 3lb 8oz cod.

We decided on a move and began catching plenty more whiting and then with Shaun fishing a bait for congers hooked into a small strap conger of about 3lb. Then with Ray Jnr pulling in whiting he dropped in another fresh bait and hooked and landed a 3lb 15oz cod which took him into the lead for heaviest fish.

Some of the guys decided to try a bush tucker trial "Discovery" style. With squid eyes and whiting heads the order of the day, Paul was the first to sample the delightful taste of a squid eye. Rolling it around his tongue to get the taste then swallowing it without a second glance. Ray not to be outdone decided that a freshly filleted whiting head would be his next sample. Taking a glance at the head he began to chew on the meat and go for the eyes. Nobody else wanted to try anything else after this so that put an end to it.

After the guys had a bit of fun more and more whiting were brought in and some dabs. With a the guys happy we called it a day and headed back to the marina for a lock in.

Tuesday 23rd October 2012 - West Yorkshire Police Sea Angling Club

We locked out of the marina at 7am. The Mersey was like a mill pond with not a ripple on the water. We got to the first mark and everybody was baited up and ready for when we anchored. With the anchor in the water, everybody began fishing. It didnt take long for the first whiting of the day to be caught closely followed by a few more. The first cod of the day was boated by David and was 3lb. Shortly after Kevin the "Knotman" thought he had snagged the bottom so with Gary hand balling the line in, a large wake appeared 20metres of the stern. As Kev started to wind the line in with the mysterious fish pumping but not fully surfaced, there was a large swirl in the water and it disappeared back under the surface and the line twanged out of the water. It was clear as to why the fish had been lost due to Kevs knot coming undone. This wasnt to be the last that Kev heard on the matter as he took a barrage of abuse throughout the day from the other guys. However it didnt take long for Kev to redeem himself with a lovely 5lb Cod, followed by Arthur with a 3lb 8oz Cod.
We moved to another mark and it didnt take Jane long to hook into a fish which before it hit the surface, the others were estimating 4lb, when it broke the surface it was a lot bigger than 4lb. Once boated and the hook removed it weighed in at 7lb 6oz. A very nice fish. With the trip drawing to a finish, Arthur landed a lovely 5lb Thornback and David followed up his 3lb cod with a 4lb Thornback, with whiting bringing the day to a close.

An Excellent day with a great bunch of Anglers.
