We were booked to go offshore over Liverpool Bay today. But due to the weather conditions we were restricted to the confines of the River Mersey.

The trip was booked by a group of guys From Sky TV. When we arrived at the marina, we gave the group the option of blowing the trip off and transferring their date or fishing in the river. With the latter option being taken of fishing the river.

The wind was gusting 32Knots with a choppy sea by the radar tower.

Fish caught over the day were whiting, dogfish, Dabs and Flounder. The best flounder weighed in at 2lb 5 ounces.

Went on cod trip last week, Skipper said we would catch and we did, thirty eight cod in all, upto 4lb, plenty of whiting and the odd dab, mostly on black lug. I wouldn't have believed you could catch clean cod in the Mersey, if I hadn't seen them myself. Forcast was for wind and rain so none of the other boats in Liverpool marina went out, but it was easy fishing on this monster of a boat, which has all the facilities you would ever need, including hot drinks every thirty mins or so. Gary is always on deck, to help and to offer advice, he knows that money is tight and he wants to give you the best chance of catching fish. I have been on so many trips where the skipper just says "There down there lads" and then sits in his cabin, when you are leaving his boat empty handed he then says, " You should have been here yesterday boys, filled the boat." I have fished for many years, the only other skipper I know with the same dedication as Gary would be Bill Warner, of The Mistress, Plymouth, who sadly went commercial. Any angler who fished with him would know what I mean. I have booked for next month, when the bigger cod come into the estuary. It was a top day, on a top boat with a top skipper. Thanks Gary.
