    Feb 2016 by Gary Flint

    FEB 2016
Fishing in February has been different to last year.I think this is because of the vast amounts of freshwater that we have had early on in the season,we have had days with 12 cod caught and days with 1 or 2 cod,but
we always ask the lads what they want to do if they want to scratch around or sit it out for Cod,A recent trip we had we welcomed Ian Brown back with us he had been out with us once before and managed 7 cod himself that day, We left the Marina and thought we would try an old mark as there was only a couple of boats out and it would not be too crowded,so we set off down the river and baited the lads up it was not long before Ian had a nice bite and produced a 10lbs Cod whilst i was dealing with his fish. I gave him another rig which i had prebaited whilst i was weighing the 10bs cod he said he had another bite,It turned out to be a Cod of 13lbs 8 oz not bad for his second trip total fish count that day was 11 cod, another day produced Cod, Flounder .Whiting , Dabs and a Plaice all the fish caught are fresh fish just come into the river.

    Summer 2015 so far
The Wind has been a major problem this summer with the strong westerlys we have to date blown off 55 trips since Christmas.
When we got out early on there was plenty of Mackerel in big shoals but as the wind chopped the sea up it dispersed the shoals.
The Wrecks produced Codling,Pollack,Ling and the usual bits and pieces but these became patchy so we concentrated on bottom fishing,We have taken plenty of Smoothounds into double figures inshore.Offshore we have targeted Tope we have boated over 30 Tope between 33lbs and 48lbs this does not sound a lot but for the amount of trips offshore fishing for them it averages out at 5 per trip. a day to remember was a group of girls on a Hen Doo who wanted to try fishing and boating so we set off early morning whist travelling offshore the girls noticed some pics of Tope on our notice board and asked if they could catch one so we changed there rigs altered our course and headed to our Tope mark, when we arrived we explained how when we get one, that we would expect them to hold the Tope with our help. Well they had 9 runs and boated 4 between 33lbs and 41lbs before we could pass the fish to them they all had there hands out to hold it well done Hannah and the girls the following day we had guys with there own tackle that had opted to use there own gear, a very big Tope was lost because the guy only had 100mts of line on his reel so if you want to fish for big fish make sure your reels are filled up correctly Gary The Skipper. JANUARY 2015
THE NEW YEAR STARTED WELL FOR DISCOVERY WITH THREE TUNS FISHING CLUB HAVING THERE 1ST OUTING ON THE RIVER AND WANTING A BIG FISH THEY SCOOPED A 7LBS 80Z COD AND A WHOPPING 19LB COD. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER WE HAD MIKE THRUSSELL FROM SEA FISHING MAGAZINE COME ON DISCOVERY TO WRITE AN ARTICLE ON THE MERSEY COD FISHING WITH DISCOVERY.HE MANAGED TO TAKE OVER 200 PICS ON THE DAY AND WE HAD SOME NICE FISH WITH ERIC JAMESON HAVING THE BEST FISH OF THE DAY, THE ARTICLE WILL BE OUT SOON IN SEA FISHING MAGAZINE.MID JANUARY SAW THE NUMBERS OF COD GROW ON DISCOVERY WITH CATCHES AROUND THE 50 MARK ON EACH TRIP. WE THE HAD A INDIVIDUALS TRIP WHERE AIRCRAFT ENGINEER CHARLIE BROWN FROM WIRRAL HOOKED AND LANDED A 10LB 10OZ COD.
OVERALL JANUARY PROVED A GOOD MONTH FOR PLENTY OF COD AROUND THE 3.5lb MARK WITH THE OCCASIONAL BIGGER FISH COMING OUT A 13lb COD WAS CAUGHT ON ANOTHER BOAT WITH SOME OF THE SMALL PRIVATE BOATS REPORTING SOME BIG FISH.
THE WEATHER HAS NOT BEEN KIND TOO US THIS MONTH WITH THE UNUSUALLY VERY STRONG NORTH WESTERLY WINDS SO QUITE A FEW TRIPS HAVE BEEN LOST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY SORRY TO THOSE ANGLERS WHO LOST TRIPS, BUT I CANT CONTROL THE WEATHER AND SAFETY COMES FIRST.WE HAVE ALREADY TAKEN A LOT OF BOOKINGS FOR NEXT WINTERS COD FISHING SO DONT BE DISAPPOINTED BOOK EARLY TEL 07884238262 GARY.PIC above cod of 19lbs for Richard Pope PLEASE LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE TO SEE THE BEST FISH OF THE WINTER CAUGHT ON DISCOVERY.
