Over the event we saw many good fish weighed in with a great effort from the skippers in the fleet and also the participating anglers.
Here on Mistress we took the top spot, with a cracking Ling of 21lb 11 1/2oz. The fish fell to Harry from Rochdale, with him winning a total prize of £1050 for his efforts. It was Harrys first time fishing so it goes to show to dont have to be experienced to win! you just need a dollop of beginners luck! well done mate.
We also took overall 3rd heaviest fish, with another good ling of 20lb 6 1/2oz for local angler Gary Smith from Whitby.
Other notable fish was one of 18lb 3 1/2 oz for John Holder of Malton. we also took many fish from 10lb to 17lb
I would like to extend a massive thankyou to all participants and sponsors for the event, without your continued support we wouldnt be able to hold the events.

Report on-board High Flyer 2
Just bringing all trips up to date. as we are on what i call change over period summer species leaving, few odd winter fish turning up, fishing a bit patchy. We now need a bit of cold to bring the cod in, have caught few small codling nothing worth a photo, the whitting getting more and more thicker soon the bigger ones should arrive. Still catching spotty dogs of all sizes amazes me how small some are this year! Most of the smoothies have left inshore only caught the odd one lately still connecting with few skate when we can get out to the banks. The strong south easterlies have scuppered most of last week and this week , pictured here is Dave Pike who also skippers the High flyer with myself with a four and half pound bass caught on whole squid. We will be doing more herring trips this year as proved very popular, people love pulling in the nets to see those silver darlings dangling, end up with a feed as well, please ask if you want to organise or be part of a herring trip and we can sort the right tide out for you. Looking forward now to winter hoping the cod season this year is a good one, we are due one! Until then tight lines everyone hope you can join me and Dave on the High Flyer at some point.

A three day trip to Wicklow, Ireland resulted in some superb pollack fishing. Today we caught plenty of fish from 6-10lb with the best two of the day being 14lb and 15lb. The 'craic' in Wicklow was great over the weekend too, with bands on in the pubs and plenty of Guinness to be had!

For the first week of September, Kev was away with the Bold Sea Angling Club fishing in the Shetland Isles for big Cod and Turbot, but the rest of the month saw some good catches on Brigand.
Although this time of year is ideal for wreck fishing for Pollack, the weather was not very favorable so we only managed to get to the wrecks on a few occasions. The remainder of the charters saw us mostly finishing in-shore.
If the weather permits, wreck fishing will continue during October in the hope to land the last of the autumn Pollock before they migrate for the winter.
Notable Charters:
On the 12th we had a party from Tasker’s Angling who fish with us every month. The plan was to go Tope fishing, but the Mackerel seemed scarce, so we decided to go wreck fishing instead as the weather was ideal. We had 16 Pollack from 3lb to 6lb, 4 Cod up to 4lb, and a Ling. When slack water arrived, we decided to drop anchor and spend the rest of the day bottom-fishing. This seen us catch a 29lb Tope, plenty of Bullhuss up to 10lb, Ballan Wrasse, Whiting, Dabs, Pouting, Poor Cod, Gurnard (Tub & Red), Dogfish, Mackerel and Sprat. We totaled 15 species in one day!
On the 29th we had a group of individuals on board. The weather conditions were not suited for off-shore, seeing strong south-easterly winds, so we had to fish in-shore around Burbo Bank wind farm and then in the River Mersey. We caught 4 Bullhuss up to 11lb 10oz, 8 Thornback Rays up to 8lb 5oz, Gurnard (Streaky), Mackerel and plenty of Dogfish, Whiting and Dabs.
Even though we didn’t get off-shore as much as we’d have liked to, the in-shore fishing is still very good. -

The September angling competition ended here last Saturday after all the boats cancelled for bad weather on the final day ( Sunday ) Good decision by all I think !!
The last 3 days of the event saw the lads aboard the boat experiencing some top sport . Ling nudging just over the 20lb mark were boated with a good number into the teens.
To be honest I don't think any of the skippers here at Whitby have ever tried harder to try and get that winning fish!!!
After a count-up on the leader board we found that the lads on the Shy-Torque had managed more daily prize winners than any other of the boats in the competition including 4 x 1st place winners. A cracking result for both the boat and the lads combined.
The 8 daily prize winners on the boat are as follows :-
19.09.2013.
Mark Nichols ( Selby ) 17lb 8.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
Mark Kirby ( Sheffield ) 10lb 5.5oz - 2nd Daily prize.
David Ezzy (Edinborough) 8lb 13.5 oz - 3rd Daily prize.
25.09.2013.
James Rook ( Barnsley ) 15lb 7.5oz - 3rd Daily prize.
26.09.2013.
Patrick May ( Loftus ) 18lb 14.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
27.09.2013.
Paul Siddle ( Hull ) 20lb 1.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
27.08.2013.
Stuart Hutchinson ( Barnsley ) 18lb 7oz - 3rd Daily prize.
28.09.2013.
John Walker ( Barnsley ) 19lb 1.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
May I thank all the lads who fished this year aboard the boat in this years competitions and here's hoping we see you all again next year for some more excellent sport.
Wherever you fish may your lines be tight!!
Pictured is Paul Siddle from Hull with his 1st daily prize winner of 20lb 1.5oz. Paul was fishing with his mate Brian Towle (also from Hull) who won last years September competition on the Shy-Torque.
Cheers

Today we had Paul Deardon's team from South Yorks Fire Dept join the boat to have a crack in this years September competition.
Paul and the lads fish on the Shy-Torque 4 or 5 times a year and are usually blessed with good weather and good fishing too. Today was no exception for them.
"Mill pond" conditions greeted us on our departure and remained that way all day for the lads. A bit misty and damp but who cares when you could hold a lit match up without it being blown out!!!!!!!
The lads turned up with their usual group of 6 (nice light boat) so we headed out to a few wrecks to have a crack at the big one. The cod fishing was superb on the first two wrecks. Best fish going a tad under 10lb. No big ling though, although plenty of these too.
We dropped on our last wreck just before 2.30pm giving us time for just 3 drifts. Again no big fellas but another 10 fish were boated to add to their overall catch of some 90 - 100 fish.
The lads will be returning again next year for another crack at the prize money!
Chris Mee is pictured with one of his many cod at just under 10lb.

Jack Ellis, his dad and a couple of his mates from Sheffield were amongst a mixed group of lads on the 22nd this month.
The codling were still playing hard to get as they have been quite a bit this year!
The ling fishing however was excellent with some good sport for all the lads on the boat. No big fish on the day but plenty of them.
The two best fish for the lads were a ling of 10lb for Jacks dad and a cod just short of 10lbs for Russ.
Jack is pictured 2nd from the left.
Cheers lads, great company.

The last few days of the festival the lads have hammered the lings on thursday there was well over 100 lings onboard friday the best fish went 18lb and yesterday once again today the boat was laden with fish lings proved to be in vast numbers but also some quality cod came on onboard the best went 14lb for regular man mal from middlesbrough .

One lad who i say was extremly unlucky yesterday onboard was John Holder john is a very good angler comes well prepaired and yesterday was no exception john was fishing with 120lb trace line and with that sort of heavy line if you hook into a big fish your chances of landing a big fish are very very good john hooked into what i can say was a very big ling john managed to get it 20-30 ft off the bottom then it took a hugh dive and smashed his 120lb trace line gutted i think i was even more dissapointed than john extremly unlucky for that to happen with trace line of that calibre the one that defernetly got away a big fish that would have probably won the festival very easyly.
Young jack vero was onboard yesterday with his dad john and once again young jack was at it again banging those lings out 12 year old jack got a ling just ounces under 14lb but then his dad next drift got one over 14lb both just missing out on daily prizes .
12 year old jack and his father john with 2 nice ling both just missed out on the daily prizes.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Otter 2
