Braveheart II Skipper Phil Browning's Photo
About the Skipper:

Have been skippering and fishing my own vessels for almost 40 years and I am just as passionate now as I was all those years ago. And giving my anglers a good day out is my number 1 priority. My love of smoothound fishing is no secret, especially in shallow water as pound for pound they are probably the hardest fighting fish in the UK ... especially in shallow water and i love the fact after a quick photograph they are returned. The sand and mudbanks of the Thames Estuary are host to bass, thornback rays, Dover sole, eels , stingray and many other species so even when targeting a particular species you never know what you will reel up, i caught a halibut one year !.
Know for my humour and sarcasm a good laugh is always guaranteed on board and always willing to help the most novice of anglers catch fish, and accomplished too.
I look forward to getting you out there .

Great days fishing with Phil gave me lots of advice which paid off for me with a 15lb hound.
Really enjoyed the day can’t wait for the next trip
    Thanks Phil

    Skippers Reponse: Hi Steve,
Was a pleasure to meet you and thanks for taking the time to post a review. Glad you caught your personal best smoothound look forward to getting you out Again
    Thank you
    Phil

Has to be a 5 Star review from me across the board, this website gives all the info you need, to have a terrific day out at sea with Phil, nothing is too much trouble for Phil as he's determined u will have a great day. also as he rightly says banter a plenty, if u don't like fun and a laugh, don't go out with Phil, but coupled with this
His knowledge is top notch, and probably one of the most helpful skippers, I've ever had the privelledge to fish with, and I have been on many many many charter boats over the years. I love that I can check on spaces available by clicking onto here, makes it so much easier. I actually have fallen in love with Braveheart 2, what a beautiful boat, loads of space, not all clogged up with various parafenalia.
Ease of parking, and a short walk to the boat is a major plus for me.
Fish, tea, banter, laughs a plenty.
    Superb skipper

Skippers Reponse: Thanks nigel. The cheques in the post lol. Its always a pleasure having you rob and dave aboard as I know how much you like your fishing and always do my very best to give you all a good day. We've been catching some big smoothounds lately and have to get you out for that p.b
    All the best my friend
    Phil

I had a few trips with Phil on Braveheart Charters and always found him to be pleasant and a chirpy skipper always happy to help and good communication.

He always tries hard to put you on the fish and has produce the goods on the 3 trips I have been on.

I have noticed he gives tuition to the novice anglers and has a rod and reel hire on the boat and will supply bait if arranged although some frozen bait was supplied within the booking price of the boat.

I had a good experience and will be booking in the future, thanks Phil and all credit goes to you.
    Regards
    Gary Turner...

Skippers Reponse: Thank you for taking the time to re write a review, it's always nice to have good seasoned anglers like yourself aboard as apart from enjoying your own fishing, the less experienced anglers can also watch and learn from your fishing ability. I always work my hardest to give my anglers a good day.
    Cheers Phil

Our group have had the pleasure of chartering this boat several times this year
Top skipper Phil knows his stuff
He has put us on some very nice fish with pbs a plenty
He supplies decent rods reels and tackle if u don't have your own and will show you the best way to do everything from presenting the bait to correctly hooking the fish when u get a tug on your rod

Phil is our go to skipper locally in Southend
The boat is very fast too , the fastest fishing boat we've been out on
We look forward to many fishing trips with him in the future
    Top skipper

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Alan for taking the time to write a review .I always look forward to taking you and your crew fishing always lots of laughs on board from a positive crew which makes for a great day out. See you soon.
    Best regards
    Phil

Good numbers of decent bass aboard BRAVEHEARTII This last few weeks with between 25 and over 50 + in 6hrs. The crew above landed well in excess of 50 up to 55cm ....90% I estimate to be above the legal size limit..
At £390 for the whole boat i am finding that I'm getting a lot of 4 anglers groups as it is cost effective and they fish a couple of rods each but BRAVEHEARTII is licenced for up to 7 anglers but 6 works very nicely.
Please refer too my calendar for availability up till the end of may....I will upload june and July's when I get the chance as I'm so busy at the mo.

Look forward to welcoming you aboard
    Manny thanks & tight lines

The spurs are back in town and I don't mean the footie team..Great to see these once prolific fish making a comeback, we only had them in numbers for a few tides and we caught some beauties.
Here's a very ugly angler with a very handsome 19lb 12oz spurdog lol, and the next best thing to catching one of these awesome fish is when a mate catches one....especially as he was a spurdog Virgin before fishing aboard BRAVEHEARTII .
The Bass are showing in reasonable numbers now and we are averaging between a dozen and 25 per trip between 40 & 54cm along with smoothounds, a few Thornback rays, plenty of dabs and the usual lsd's & whiting.
If you want to book day out on BRAVEHEARTII either whole boat charter or individual...
Check out the availability calendar updated until the end of may.... will add more months when I get the time. HIRE TACKLE AVAILABLE, AND FROZEN BAIT INCLUDED ON ALL TRIPS.

    MANY THANKS & TIGHT LINES

It's nice to see the thornback Ray's again after having huge numbers in the Thames estuary for years only to see the numbers drastically reduced in the last 3 years. They were considered a pest by some anglers but I always loved catching these rays , and especially in the summer with the warmer water temperature can really give you a good scrap on light tackle. On Tuesday we were getting triple hook ups of thornback like the old days, and always keeps the angler's happy, which is my sole objective.
If you'd like to jump on BRAVEHEARTII please check out my website for details

Spring feels like it's well underway with the weather warming up nicely towards the end of the month and it was easy to forget that it was still only March ! The water temperature is still quite low historically but as it rises in April should kick the season off nicely, but dispite this we have still manged to get some nice smoothounds onboard BRAVEHEARTII which keeps the angler's happy as these are probably pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish in the UK. The majority of these fish have been the smaller males but the bigger tides have pushed some better females into the estuary along with the first of the thornback rays and bass won't be far behind them. So all set for a good season ahead.
If you want a day out on BRAVEHEARTII

    Feb 2025 by phillip browning

Hi guys hope you are all well and enjoyed Christmas and the new year.
BRAVEHEARTII is currently out of the water and in the yard for its annual servicing & maintenance, i have a few remaining weekend dates until September, so all enquiries please call 07970 728707
I still have more availability on Midweek dates although these are starting to fill up nicely & there will be plenty of dates for individuals...Looking forward to the 2025 season and hoping for some more settled weather this year as last year a few trips were lost to bad weather, but as we are situated in the sheltered waters of the river crouch we were still able to get you out fishing on most days ..make sure you get a few trips booked to save disappointment if we do have to cancel.
March and April we will be targeting thornback rays and if the weather allows and will push out further in search for spurdogs, although I would still expect to see early bass & smoothounds.
May and June the big hounds move inshore so, along with bass, tope, stingrays, eel's, soles, dab's,mackerel,Scad, garfish and Gurnard etc, you never know what surprises the river Thames will produce, I've caught turbot, a lone halibut, red Gurnard, bream and haddock!
Any dates you want just call or text and I'll include you in the diary
Look forward to seeing you all soon
    Many thanks & tight lines
