We are a serious angling boat catering for the needs of serious anglers. No rod hire, no stag/hen parties, no sightseeing trips...... Just good honest fishing on a top boat with a top crew.

We are very fortunate to have a huge variety of great fishing off the Sussex Coast and target different species depending on the time of year. A broad overview of more common species;
COD - Winter from October - Feb inshore
BASS - Spring & Summer May - September inshore
BREAM - Spring/Summer April - July inshore
TURBOT - Summer June - October offshore
PLAICE - Spring & Summer May - September inshore
POLLACK - Nov - Jun Offshore
CONGER - All year offshore wrecks and inshore marks

We run 2 and 3 day trips to France fishing the mid & far channel banks for Turbot & Brill in the Summer months (June-Sep) and when weather permits hitting those offshore wrecks that are just that little too far off to exploit on a days charter trip (Oct - May). These trips offer EXCELLENT value starting at £200 for two 12hr days. Our best 2 day trip in 2018 saw us boat over 100 Turbot & Brill and we averaged over 50 per trip. Whether you want to book the whole boat for your party or come along as a small group or even if you are an individual, you will receive the same warm welcome.
Our aim is to make your trip safe and successful. Whether you are a seasoned expert or a novice it is our job to do the best we can for you...... it's a commitment we take seriously.
Deposits
Before making a payment, please ensure that you have called first to confirm availability. If you make a payment without doing this we cannot guarantee that there will be spaces on the day you require. When making your payment ensure that you select the date of your trip and accept our terms and conditions, so that that there will be no confusion as to what days deposits are for when booking multiple trips.

Boats and fishing have been a fixture of my life. Learning to sail at the age of 11 racing lasers and 420's moving up to bigger boats and competing in International regattas from Sardinia to Cape Town as professional race crew, culminating in winning the Rolex World Cup. I have several transatlantic crossing under my belt on Superyachts (both sail & power) and have logged over 40,000 miles at sea.
My father taught me to fish and my skills were honed spending summer holidays on my Uncle's charter boat out of Portrush, Northern Ireland. I had the benefit of 40 years charter skipper knowledge handed down and my uncle continues to fish on Brigand regularly. I have fished out of most ports from Folkstone to Weymouth over the last 30 years and have first hand experience of some excellent and some not so excellent skippers, I have learnt something from them all.

7 of us went out with Steve, really nice bloke, was a good laugh, really knowledgeable, got us exactly where the banks and wrecks(and fish!) were.
He made sure the novices knew what was going on and we were all looked after (we booked the whole boat so we weren't messing anyones fishing trip up.
Definitely going to book him again, can't wait!!

Amazing day , first time bank fishing . The skipper Steve is an amazing individual with lots of experience and disciplined gentleman . Felt very safe on boat as it’s huge and very stable . Caught 4 turbot First time . U need to be quick to get a date on this boat as always booked up

Thanks Steve, Great days fishing. The boat was excellent and we had plenty of room. Steve worked hard all day to put us on the fish, Brigand is my No1 choice for a days fishing in Brighton.

I normally do Lure fishing with Brighton Inshore fishing but fancied doing some turbot fishing and Robin Howard recommended Steve who owns and runs Brigand. Due to the weather not playing ball Turbot got cancelled and ended up doing offshore wreck fishing, to tell you the truth I was a bit apprehensive as I have never done this type of fishing but Steve communicated with me throughout from my booking to advising on gear and what not to get. On the day Steve and fellow anglers made sure I had right rigs and if I did’nt have I was given rigs. Steve works hard to put you on the fish ,watching him work shows his passion because he Grafts . I throughly enjoyed myself and will be booking again with Brigand Brighton Charters. Thank you for a wonderful Experience

A few Codling today along with mostly small Pollock in the 3-5lb range and as many Mackerel as you could ever want....... nobody wanted them!
Great to have my old buddy Nick Williams aboard today along with a wonderful group of guys - thank you all.

That was yesterday's post that wasn't posted..... bear with me on this!
A scouting trip today with some of our very best folks and a very focused agenda.
No.1 on the list was stocking up on those jumbo mackerel in the 40cm plus range. We do occasionally pick them up inshore but to be guaranteed catching fish of that quality you need to be heading out far...... it didn't disappoint and the smoker will be flat out from 0500 tomorrow for the whole day!
No.2. Check out the Offhsore banks - we hit 5 today in a long session with varied results. Some nice Bass until we hit our quota along with Bream, Huss, Scad, jumbo Mackerel, Launce, Gurnard. A waste of time fishing lures for the Bass, live-baits sorted them out in clear water and some fanatastic sport.
Some valuable intel gathered on a beautiful day with lovely people, thank you guys��

TUNA TIME!!!!
Having received notification that we have again secured a permit to fish for Bluefin Tuna out of Brighton it's time to dust off the Big Guns ����
After an epic 2024 Season which saw us become the fist boat in history to catch a Bluefin Tuna out of Sussex and follow that up with an average catch rate of 1.6 fish/trip throughout the season we learnt an awful lot and are well placed to hit the ground running this year.
Big Game fishing is a team effort, not just on the day but just as crucial in all of the planning, rigging, testing & training that goes before that...... there's a lot! Our particular thanks to Jason Davis, Peter Stotesbury Peter Haigh (Leadertec), Viv Shears Jerry Rogers and all of the others who contributed, your expertise and support has been and is greatly appreciated��
With a very busy domestic/international fishing schedule and social calendar this year for us opportunities are going to be limited, although we do intend to make the most of what availabliluty we do have and get as many trips in as possible.
Great to see some other Sussex boats successful in their applications this year, we wish them and all other BFT C&R participants well for the season.

We are.now taking Cod off the wrecks out of Brighton along with Pollock and Bass. This is the time of year we head out far on longer trips with the intention targetting all 3 of these species.

We haven't done a lot of serious Bassing in the past, for no other reason than we have been tied up chasing Turbot through the Summer for the last 9 years and Bluefin Tuna of late...... however, with fish of this quality we're going to be doing a lot more of the same out of Brighton this year!

You don't have to be an expert for this type of fishing, all but one onbaord today was a complete novice so it's perfect for new or developing anglers as well as those more experienced.

We welcomed Mike and his wonderful crew of mixed experienced anglers aboard today, that did not hinder them in the slightest.
Originally booked as an inshore trip a discussion with Mike (a very capable and experienced angler) and Offhsore we went! The quality and volume of fish is far superior if you can put the miles and effort in and the North London Gang were into great Bream within 15-17 seconds ......... and it didn't stop!
They also wanted mackerel which have just started to appear so we hatched a plan, out the hammer down and duly obliged - great to see the Mackerel in numbers.
Busy, busy day for us but when you have a wonderful crew, who were great company the time just flies by.
Look forward to seeing you guys on your monthly booking for the rest of the year and thank you all for a great day - you smashed it ��
