Report on-board Mistress
The weather was fantastic yesterday, warm and sunny with a little bit of a South Easterly blowing. The fish were biting from the off, with plenty of codling, mainly small, just under and over size. All were returned for another day. As we moved around from ground to wrecks, the fish got a little bigger about 1 1/2 lb to 2. The best baits proved to be prawns and mackerel.
Cod were coming up stuffed with sprat so we followed the gulls and managed to find some mackerel, about a dozen in total. They are here much sooner than last year, probably due to the good run of hot weather recently. When we hit the mackerel, the fishing really picked up and we landed a lot of cod, mainly on the small
size with a few better ones mixed in. Phil, one of the regulars, got the best Cod of the day, around the 7 lb mark.
With mackerel starting to show the bigger fish should hopefully be following in the coming weeks.
