EFSA IRELAND
EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF SEA ANGLERS (IRELAND)
Dunmore East Boat Competition 11/12 April 2009
The first weekend of the EFSA Boat league took place over the Easter weekend at Dunmore East , Co. Waterford.
3 local boats, Sharpshooter, Keltoi Warrior and St. Michael carried the competitors to the angling grounds off The Hook. The weather was exceptional and the 4 metre tide did not have the expected effect due to the opposing wind.
A new format of half and half drifting and anchor fishing was tried out for the first time. Unfortunately, being so early in the season the anchor fishing was a little testing.
Good numbers of fish were recorded however Pollack were extremely scarce, apparently they are being now being fished commercially inshore.
The score system used in the European Championships held in Cobh last year was also used with each side of the boats being scored as a zone. This resulted in 6 anglers having 100% after day 1.
In top spot was Joe Gough from the Bray Head Club on 219 points. The others were Mick Barry, Paul Robinson, Pàiric Clear, Joe Byrne and Rob Troy.
Day 2 was eagerly awaited after the good results on Saturday. The difference of an hour was noticeable and the fishing started slowly compared to day 1. Once they started to feed the fish came on well.
At the end of the day there were 3 anglers on double boat wins. Mick Barry topped the scoring with 435 fish points followed by Joe Gough on 409 and Pàiric Clear on 338. The pairs event was won by Mick Barry and Joe Byrne. The four man teams were won by Pàiric Clear, Joe Byrne, Warren Doyle and Shay O’Neill.
Recorded species were: Cod (68), LSD (67), Ling (119), Ballan Wrasse (147), Cuckoo Wrasse (147), Pollack (37), Whiting (368), Pouting (188), Red Gurnard (15), Grey Gurnard (5), Dab (5), Plaice (1).View Boats Page
