    Report on-board Duke IV

Once again, Bob Marshall provided us with an interesting and enjoyable day's fishing. The thrill for me was catching herrings on feathers. I have always carried a couple of packs of herring lures in the rig wallet, but have never had much success on them, so it was a real bonus when Bob's eagle eye spotted a shoal of fish on his sounder as we headed south out of Ramsgate towards the Varne Bank. Bob was not quite certain what the shoal was ,but we dropped down mackeral feathers and in no time at all we were landing herrings and the odd mackeral.
Once on the Varne we caught several species of fish, with turbot being outstanding bonus although it must also be noted that we caught some really big mackeral dragging bait over the bank. In total we had at least ten different species of fish, you certainly cannot complain about that for a day's fishing. Thanks Bob, looking forward to the 18th November.
    Best Wishes
