Report on-board Size Matters
During the last three weeks we have only managed to get out seven times, due to the strong west and north west winds. When we have got out the fishing has been very good, lots of cod to 5lb 6oz, rays to 8lb, smoothhound to 14lb 8oz, bullhuss to 10lb, dabs, flounder, gurnard, dogfish and a few pack tope. The best day we had was just in the Mersey we totalled 53 codling from 2lb 8oz to 5lb 6oz and 17 rays to 8lb. Not bad for the end of May, I would be very happy with this in the winter months. The smoothound fishing on the inshore banks has been very good, this year the average size is 6lb to 7lb. That's much better than previous years where they have been in the 3lb to 5lb bracket. One day last week we landed four double figure smoothhound in the last few hours of the trip, we didn't get one under 7lb.
