Fishing Report by Scott Belbin

We might be chasing tuna currently but it won't be long before we are back in Essex chasing those autumn bass. The first couple of months of our offshore bass season were prolific and this bodes well for the autumn run when the bass are feeding hard. We will be targeting bass offshore on most tides throughout October and November and even early December. On a range of methods from lures and lives on the drift to worms at anchor depending on conditions.
We have availability for general trips too.

We've enjoyed our first few days joining the tuna party down in Cornwall. The journey down was far from flat calm but but Galloper powered down there regardless. We made great time and got the tides just about perfect. For a huge chunk of the trip the big doosans were pushing us along at 18-20knt and so we did the journey in 20hrs.
Although the weather wasn't perfect for our first few trips and we had to work for the fish but we managed to put the lads on a few and got off to a great start. Falmouth did us proud offering the shelter and the fishing we needed. Let's hope we the rest of the season is as kind to us.
Thanks to those who have already joined us. Alex you made the trip down and the first few days easier and Barry for your help (including the grapes). I can't wait to share the rest of the adventure with those who are joining us over the next few weeks.
I have one individual space left for the 12/09 other than that I'm currently fully booked for the rest of the season.
Please get in touch on 07956411528 if you are interested. -

Finally I have a spare minute to get an update on here. It's been very hectic lately with cracking weather and great fishing I've been flat out. In-between that I'm preparing everything for tuna fishing which w start next week!!
Thankfully there isn't too much to do as we set most things up last year. Just the usual boat prep and maintenance, things like new leaders on the reels and a few additional outfits to set up for popping and spinning ect.
While I was servicing the engines the mullet were begging to be caught so while I waited for a filter to drain I had a few casts and soon nicked one of the greedy thinlips. Not to be outshone Stanley was desperate to catch a mullet too so the next day (and about 20 bass later) he had one from the shore! You can see how pleased he was.
In just a few days time we will leave these Essex bone fish, the hounds and bass behind to chase big game fish in Cornwall again. We're looking forward to chasing monsters and making dreams come true again.
Most of our tuna season is now full however I have two days remaining currently

We had a lovely group out the other day, a mixed bag of regulars and beginners with some lovely weather too. I think the likes of Alex and Steve enjoyed a change from being offshore too. There were some decent fish showing amongst them with a few around the double figure mark. Martin even snuck a tub gurnard out as a little bonus.
We should have a nice run on the hounds again over the next few weeks before the majority leave the inshore grounds.
The bass will hang around offshore until December though.
I have limited availability before I head to Cornwall for the tuna and plenty of availablity for the autumn bass and more when I return.

We had a break from the bass fishing offshore the other day. After seeing quite a lot over the past few weeks some of us might have overdosed on bass.
We planned a run off to 'the land of no fish ' where we can catch anything and everything.
To be honest it was a bit nautical out there but the forecast was to decrease.
Considering the conditions we we comfortable and able to fish nicely.
Mackerel are normally abundant off there but I reckon the weather had broken them up a bit. Thankfully we found enough for bait and a few jumbos for dinner too.
The bottom fishing could have been better to start with. We had some gurnards throughout the day. Mostly tubs but a decent red gurnard for Stanley too.
The lads were very pleased to see several dogfish though as I think they have been missing them lately!
Over slack we tried a different mark and had pouting, scad, mackerel and whiting. The conditions weren't really ideal for here though as the drift was too fast.
Once the tide was back underway we decided to go a little further to another area for a few drifts. With the turn of the tide came the sunshine and the wind dropped away.
We had a few lovely drifts on this mark catching lots of greater weaver fish, gurnard, mackerel and more including a cuttlefish for Kevin. We didn't get the turbot we hoped for but everything felt right. We were tempted to put another drift in but instead decided to head home and stop for bass on the way. The wreck we stopped on was alive with them and in two short drifts we had our quota to end a lovely day.
I'm hoping to head off there again soon. This is a great place for different species and although things like the greater weaver are common there anything is possible. We've had all sorts over the years.
If you want to join us for a trip like this, general trip, offshore bass from brightlingsea or even tuna fishing from Falmouth please get in touch.

We've still been seeing some cracking bass offshore recently. These two came on worm baits but we had some on lures too. Fish ranging from undersized to these lovely fish on this trip and a few other bits and bobs too including hounds. The tides are building nicely again now and I look forward to finding more bass, hounds and more over the coming weeks.
Next spaces are tomorrow then I have nothing available for a few days
