A nice steady day on the ground and a couple of wrecks yesterday, not going beyond 5 miles either which made for plenty of fishing time for the lads.
One or two “double ups” too which is always encouraging.
Baited rigs doing the business and a nice few falling to the shads too.
Neap tides approaching again so we should be catching even closer to port over the next few days if the weather stays kind.
    Cheers

3 Jun 2022 by Rich Ward

A bit of a struggle for our lads yesterday with only 25-30 fish to keep.
Simon Blenkin and his 2 lads Jack and George fishing the best on the boat with around 12 fish between them.
Nothing of any size to report either.
A nice surprise for Rodney from Stoke on our last drift with our first Mackerel of the year!
    Cheers for now,
    Rich

A nice day back on the water yesterday after a few days off for weather.
A mixed group yesterday with lads from Darlington, Warrington and other places.
The day started slowly with the tide and breeze together giving us a 2 knot drift.
We eventually came across a few fish out on the 5 mile ground where we took most of our fish.
I little stop on the 3 mile on the way back in to check the water clarity and the lads took another half dozen fish to finish the day off.
All in all a very enjoyable day out with cracking weather too. Some pictures of some of the lads fish today.
    Cheers

The last of their 4 day visit to Whitby for our Fleetwood lads yesterday.

The forecast was much better than the day previous so we made pretty much a full day out of it.

Venturing no further off than 4 miles we picked away again at the inshore marks and the lads ended up with another nice show of Codling/Ling to take back home.

It’s been an absolute pleasure sailing with them and we look forward to seeing them again next year for another do.

The lads pictured inset with a few of their catch yesterday.

    Cheers lads,
    Rich

A challenging day for our team from Fleetwood yesterday.
Forecasts weren’t that clever with a freshening SW but they chose to give it a go.
Sailed at 9am and headed for the wreck we finished on the day previously. Picked the odd Codling of it for an hour but to be fair the drift was too quick.
We ran tight inshore to see if there anything moving after young Fergus who fishes with us regularly had mentioned his mates were catching Pollack on lures off the pier ends the day before. The water is as clear as gin in there and before the winds really started they had a nice few in 10-15 fathoms of water.
Back in the harbour for 1.30pm.
    Last day for them today.
Fergus pictured with some of his inshore Codling to 5lbs.
    Cheers

25 May 2022 by Rich Ward

Well, what a bonus day the lads had yesterday,
We never would have thought we would have even sailed given the forecast predictions but, like they often do, they changed it for the better at the last minute and we got them away. Always handy when the team is staying with us for a few days.
I thought we’d start off on a wreck just 2 miles from shore just to see what the clarity was like.
Question answered on the first drift with 2 fish taken on the Shad! It produced another dozen or so fish. A nice start to the day.
With the neap tides on us again we wreck hopped throughout the day and picked fish up everywhere we went.
The best and one of my favourite wrecks I saved till last.
We hit it at slack water and the lads took around 40 fish from it. A great way to end the day. Total catch for the day would be around the 80 mark.
Still no “lunkers” but plenty of nice fillets for the lads to take for their families and friends.
    Cheers and tight lines,
    Rich

24 May 2022 by Rich Ward

Fleetwood lads, Alan Brown and his mates Steve, Brian, Pete and Brian 2 joined us yesterday on the first of their 4 day charter.
The day started off fairly slowly with the drift being fairly quick, but also the water in the area we chose to start the day was fairly murky too. Just a handful of fish boated.
As the tide eased we moved to a different group of wrecks and the first one produced quite well for the lads with around 30 fish taken, the best fish, a nice Cod of 6lb 6oz taken by Alan.
    Cheers for now,
    Rich

23 May 2022 by Rich Ward

A marked improvement for our mixed bunch of lads yesterday. The fishing, like it sometimes does, came alive with fish showing pretty much everywhere we went.
The first spot we visited fished the best with the lads taking around 50 fish between them by lunchtime.
Again, no big fish but Cod to just over 7lbs and Ling to over 8lbs.
A happy bunch enjoying the good fishing and great weather.
Cheers and keep a tight line!

21 May 2022 by Rich Ward

Another cracking day weather wise yesterday for the lads, however the fishing was a little slower for us.
We ran back to the same areas as the previous day but somehow something had changed. The fish were definitely still there but not feeding as avidly.
We persevered though and managed to drag a few aboard.
As the tides start easing for us now over the next week I am hoping that the more inshore marks will start producing again. Fingers crossed.
    Cheers

20 May 2022 by Rich Ward

A perfect day for a cruise yesterday with the tides still on the large side.
We sailed a little earlier at 6.0am so as to arrive at our marks an hour before slack water.
From the off we were knocking the fish out and the lads picked steadily for 2-3 hours.
As the tide increased on the ebb the fishing slowed a lot and we were just picking the odd fish up.
Baited Hokkai rigs probably fished best on the day but I personally had 7 Cod fair and square on the Shad, indicating the water is nice and clear offshore.
All in all another cracking day on the water.
Bryan Stanton taking the best bag with 12 himself.
    Fish to 7.5 lbs.
    Cheers
