Just in case any of you haven't yet got this years competiton dates I have listed them below for your reference.
Spring comp : - 5th April - 20th April.
Summer comp : - 21 June - 13th July.
Late summer comp : - 13th Sept - 28th Sept.
All the competitions at Whitby have great cash prizes and are well worth having a go at!
We still have room on the boat in all 3 competitions. The summer one is filling very quickly though with only 2 or 3 days where the boat is totally empty. There are a few days left where we have room for small groups or individuals.
If you fancy a go at one of the big cash prizes on offer again this year just give me a call for a chat anytime.
Here's hoping for more festival winners like this again this year!!
Cheers for now

Hi lads,
Just a short note to let you all know where we are with the boats re-fit.
We had to wait a bit longer than anticipated for the new engines, however they are now sat back in the boat, set up, primed and ready to go.
I do now have to wait for my electrician ( and good family friend ) John Wilcock to return from his trip to Burma.
He is completely re-wiring her from the engine harness's and looms back to the wheelhouse.
He is due back on the 3rd March and has told me that he has 3-4 days work with the re-wire job. Consequently we are now looking at a re-launch date around the 2nd week in March.
I can only apologise for the unforseen extra time out of the water, but at the end of the day the boat will be 100% tip top for the start of the season (hopefully!!)
We do still have the use of my mates boat as we speak so if you see a window in the weather and fancy a run off please give me a ring.
Cheers for now

The boat is almost ready for the start of the New Year now. Basically we are just waiting for the new engines to arrive and we are just about there. A total re-fit is definately something I wouldn't want to do each year !!!
As soon as we are back in the water and the sea trials have been completed I will adjust the availability calendar accordingly. It might just be that we are ready sooner rather than later ( here's hoping!! ) So keep an eye on the calendar if your thinking about an early season trip. We will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
May I take this opportunity to thank all those who sailed with us during 2013 ( both old and new ) and hope we see you all again during the 2014 season.
Happy Xmas to one and all and lets hope we all have a prosperous 2014.
Cheers

On our last trip out I forgot to take my camera with me. The lads have kindly sent me a picture to download to the site.
The lads from Southport are pictured with a few of their 50 or so fish.
Left to right are :- Geoff, Matt, Tomo, Mark and John. A great days winter sport.
We have 3 trips going in the near future. Please click the availability calendar for reference.

Whilst the boat is high and dry for her maintenance work we have the use of another boat.
Five lads from Southport joined us for a trip off yesterday, which for me was a very pleasant change indeed after over 2 weeks of work on mine in the boatyard!
We had a steady cruise out to the 7 and 9 mile ground where the lads had a picking of codlings pretty much all day. The water is still crystal clear out there and the artificials are still doing the business as well as the baited lures. Best lad taking around 12 codling himself, best weight around 7lb.
The relief boat we have is fuelled and ready to go anytime so keep an eye on the weather and if you fancy a run off from now up until Xmas feel free to give me a ring.
Cheers

Well, the work on the boat is running to schedule with both engines now out of the boat. The clean and paint up in the engine room is now in progress!!
If the weather doesn't get too bad for us we should be able to work on her every day. Tarpaulin's at the ready if it does change!!
I will keep you updated as we go along lads. The availability calendar is showing blue throughout November to give me chance to get well on with the work on the boat, but please feel free to give me a call at the end of the month if you fancy a run off as I do have the use of a mates boat. I will sail with a minimum of 4 anglers.
A massive well done to Mick Leonard on AVANTE for winning the inshore competition here at Whitby. A mate and work collegue of mine here at Whitby. Congratulations Mick and also to Ken Lydell (winner)
Last years inshore competition was won by the Never Can Tell. Seems these are the boys who know the inshore marks better than anyone else here at Whitby!!
Cheers for now lads

Hi lads,
Just a quick note to let you know that I had confirmation today that I could use a mates boat for any work we get from now till our boat is ready in the new year.
I will be focusing primarily on ours for a week or so, getting things prepped for the first of the 2 new engines arriving. After that we can have a crack back out there. If you fancy a run off please feel free to give me a ring. We will as always need a minimum of 4 anglers to sail.
Cheers

The boat was lifted out of the water this morning for a re-fit for 2014.
Amongst many of the jobs we have to do, we are fitting two new propulsion units for the start of next season.
Hopefully we will be back up and running before the end of January next year.
If anyone wants to have a trip whilst we are working on the Shy-Torque I'm hoping to have the use of another boat whilst we are high and dry, so please keep in touch and we'll try and get you all some cod for over the Xmas period!! I will gladly take a couple of days off to get you out there. It will be a nice break from the spanners!!
Just before we finished for the year we managed to get away on Friday and Saturday last week.
A mixed group on both days saw some steady fishing out on the 9 mile ground. Best angler taking a dozen or so fish away each day. The boat taking around 60 - 70 fish both days.

Cheers for now

30.09.2013.
The September angling competition ended here last Saturday after all the boats cancelled for bad weather on the final day ( Sunday ) Good decision by all I think !!
The last 3 days of the event saw the lads aboard the boat experiencing some top sport . Ling nudging just over the 20lb mark were boated with a good number into the teens.
To be honest I don't think any of the skippers here at Whitby have ever tried harder to try and get that winning fish!!!
After a count-up on the leader board we found that the lads on the Shy-Torque had managed more daily prize winners than any other of the boats in the competition including 4 x 1st place winners. A cracking result for both the boat and the lads combined.
The 8 daily prize winners on the boat are as follows :-
19.09.2013.
Mark Nichols ( Selby ) 17lb 8.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
Mark Kirby ( Sheffield ) 10lb 5.5oz - 2nd Daily prize.
David Ezzy (Edinborough) 8lb 13.5 oz - 3rd Daily prize.
25.09.2013.
James Rook ( Barnsley ) 15lb 7.5oz - 3rd Daily prize.
26.09.2013.
Patrick May ( Loftus ) 18lb 14.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
27.09.2013.
Paul Siddle ( Hull ) 20lb 1.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
27.08.2013.
Stuart Hutchinson ( Barnsley ) 18lb 7oz - 3rd Daily prize.
28.09.2013.
John Walker ( Barnsley ) 19lb 1.5oz - 1st Daily prize.
May I thank all the lads who fished this year aboard the boat in this years competitions and here's hoping we see you all again next year for some more excellent sport.
Wherever you fish may your lines be tight!!
Pictured is Paul Siddle from Hull with his 1st daily prize winner of 20lb 1.5oz. Paul was fishing with his mate Brian Towle (also from Hull) who won last years September competition on the Shy-Torque.

24.09.2013.
Today we had Paul Deardon's team from South Yorks Fire Dept join the boat to have a crack in this years September competition.
Paul and the lads fish on the Shy-Torque 4 or 5 times a year and are usually blessed with good weather and good fishing too. Today was no exception for them.
"Mill pond" conditions greeted us on our departure and remained that way all day for the lads. A bit misty and damp but who cares when you could hold a lit match up without it being blown out!!!!!!!
The lads turned up with their usual group of 6 (nice light boat) so we headed out to a few wrecks to have a crack at the big one. The cod fishing was superb on the first two wrecks. Best fish going a tad under 10lb. No big ling though, although plenty of these too.
We dropped on our last wreck just before 2.30pm giving us time for just 3 drifts. Again no big fellas but another 10 fish were boated to add to their overall catch of some 90 - 100 fish.
The lads will be returning again next year for another crack at the prize money!
Chris Mee is pictured with one of his many cod at just under 10lb.
Tight lines
