    22.09.2013.

Jack Ellis, his dad and a couple of his mates from Sheffield were amongst a mixed group of lads on the 22nd this month.

The codling were still playing hard to get as they have been quite a bit this year!

The ling fishing however was excellent with some good sport for all the lads on the boat. No big fish on the day but plenty of them.

The two best fish for the lads were a ling of 10lb for Jacks dad and a cod just short of 10lbs for Russ.

Jack is pictured 2nd from the left.

    Cheers lads, great company.

The first day proper in this years September angling competition was Thursday 19th this week. The first 5 days being cancelled to some crappy weather !!

With massive tides upon us we were really struggling to find anything of any size anywhere to be honest.

We tried ground mark after ground mark in our quest to get a good fish or two on the leader board to set the precident. At slack water we dropped on a couple of wrecks for very little off one of them and nothing off the other!

Just after slack we dropped on a little "hot spot" of mine which has thrown a good fish or two up in the past, with even a couple of overall festival winners too. First drift saw a relative newcomer to the Shy-Torque drop on a good ling of 17lb 8.5oz and another couple at just over 10lbs and 9lbs.

Mark Nichols from Selby taking the £50.00 first prize on the day with his fish of 17lb 8.5oz.

The other two fish taking second and third place on the day. A clean sweep for the lads!!

Marks fish has since been beaten by another angler on another boat by a couple of pounds.

Mark is pictured with his P.B fish.

    16.09.2013.

We did our second to last sharking trip last Thursday (12th) with a group of regular lads from around the Richmond area. A lovely forecast for a change, allowing us to get out to our usual stomping ground where we have had good results on all the shark trips so far this year.

Sadly this wasn't to be the case on this trip! A lovely days sport for the bottom fishing however, with around 20 pollack, 30 cod, 15 or so ling and various other bits and bobs including haddock. A nice picking for the 4 lads.

I'm guessing that the Northerly blow which we'd had a few days prior to the trip had some effect on the days sharking.

John Wilcock (crew) is pictured with one of his ling just over 13lb.

    14.09.2014.

Some real crappy weather here at the moment with even more to come. Typical, as it's the start of the late summer competition this weekend!!

Last day off with general anglers for the Shy Torque was last Sunday (8th)

A steady days work out on the rough ground on the 9 mile with some lovely ling showing. No monsters but a good number of fish to 12lbs were boated. Still not a great number of cod showing here but I'm sure things will improve on the cod front once the herring have disappeared, which will be in the next few weeks.

No days left in September now but we do still have a few dates left in October and early November before we get the boat lifted out of the water on the 12 November for a re-fit, with new engines for 2014.

It's that ling time of year again lads!!

Plenty of ling showing all over the place with a good number into double figures. Sadly not a great number of cod here at present but I fancy when the herring start spawning ( which won't be too far away ) we'll see an influx of those too.

The weather here is still making the fishing a sheer pleasure with flat calm days upon us again for a few more days.

    Just a quick note lads,
The dates for next years competitions are now open and we are taking bookings for them now as well as all other general fishing days. We have the 2014 diary and tide tables now for all bookings.

    They are :-
    Spring April 5th - 20th inc
    Summer :- June 21st - July 13th inc
    Late summer :- Sept 13th - 28th inc

Dates are starting to go already so get your trips sorted and booked for another chance of the big money!!

Tight lines to one and all,

After a short break away with the family for a week we returned to sea today to some lovely conditions.

A good number of cod and ling around the 7 and 9 mile ground with the best fish being a lovely cod which tipped the scales at 13lb 6oz. Best ling going 9lbs.

The cod fell to my own rod which went down well !!! :-))))))))))

Just a couple of days left with any room across the whole of September now.

The dates with room are :- Tuesday 3rd Sept ( room for 2 )
    Thursday 19th Sept ( room for 5 )

    16.08.2013.

A new team of lads to the boat today.

Matt Haylett and some of his workmates from Blackpool constabulary joined us for their first ever trip out of Whitby.

We fished some local ground marks on the 3 and 4 mile and had a steady days fishing from start to finish with a good picking of cod and ling. No big fish today but plenty for the table. Best tactic on the day was baited daylights.

Matt and the lads are back again with us later on in the year.

Pictured is Andy Sargeant with one of his fish.

    Regards

    15.08.2013.

David Laine and Nigel Hall and a couple of their mates joined us on Thursday this week for their second sharking trip of 2013.

The weather forecast was sadly too bad for us to get to our usual ground to try for them and we were resrtricted to fishing the 12 mile ground. We positioned the boat near to one of the wrecks on the ground and began our quest.

Sadly no sharks turned up for the boys but they did have a cracking days sport with the light gear.

They ended up with around 150 flatties and a handful of haddock, gurnard and whiting. I don't think I've ever seen as many flatties in one session!!

The lads are back again for their last shark trip on the 11th September so here's hoping on that day.

David with one of his haddock.

    Cheers

    14.08.2013.

The 9 mile ground producing as well as I've seen it produce for a long time on the 14th.

We get a lot of mixed groups on the boat and this day was a cracker for all those on board.

We aimed for the 9 mile ground again after seeing some good signs there over the last couple of weeks and the lads fished steady for around 5 hours.

Cod to 7lb, ling to 12lb and a lovely pollack of 8lb 8oz were amongst some 80+ fish on the morning. The afternoon tide after slack water didn't really produce too much fish when the S.E breeze picked up at the back of the tide and made the drift a bit too quick.

Pictured is Stuart Fletcher with a lovely pollack of just over 8lb.

    Cheers

    13.08.2013.

A mixed group of regulars on the boat today with lads from Leed,Scarborough, Hull and other areas.

Starting on the 3 mile ground to gather the ever abundant mackerel which are running there at the moment we found that the bottom fishing was worth staying with for a while too.

The first hour produced a steady stream of codling to around 6lb with a few ling thrown in to the 8lb mark.

When it quietened on the 3 mile we had a mooch out to the ground on the 7 mile to find a steady picking for another hour or so.

Best catch fell to regular angler Terry Seaton from Hull who has had 5 trips in 8 days this last week or so. Mad for it !!!

Terry is pictured with a couple of his fish.

    Rich.
