NOVEMBER 2009 - well the weather has been awful, wet and windy.I managed to get out for two days in a weather window before the next lot of gales moved in. The water was quite coloured which made the fishing on the drift hard going on the Shambles Bank but one Brill was caught.Anchoring the Adamant Bank proved a lot more fruitful with plenty of good size whiting being caught on hoki's baited with squid and mackerel strips. Also dogs, gurnards, pout, poor cod and the occassional jumbo mackerel were caught. Some congers were also taking the baits intended for the whiting but the lads rigs were not strong enoough to get the congers to the boat.Pictured are the sort of size whiting that were caught.

OCTOBER 2009 - THE ROYAL HOTEL TOTTINGTON SAC - The club were due to do two days fishing with bream, bass, cod the target species. But the trip was cut short to one day beacause of the bad weather due on the Sunday. On the Saturday it was a bit choppy in the morning but the weather did improve as the day went on,the lull before the storm I guess.Well we targeted black bream and flatties and did very well.Plenty of black bream were caught with Geoff Hall catching a personal best weighing 4Ib.Two sessions on the Shambles Bank produced five turbot and two brill all on Ammo mackerel baits. Also two plaice were caught on the mussel beds with Garry Spencer catching the biggest one a fine plaice of 4Ib 8oz which was his personal best.Garry is pictured with his PB plaice.
The lads also caught other species including red and tub gurnards, dogfish, garfish, mackerel, pout, lesser weaver etc.The club were pleased with their days fishing on Flamer III and have booked up for three weekends in 2010.

ENGLAND SQUAD ON FLAMER III - The England world championship squad have been out on Flamer III for a practise weekend. In 2010 the world championships are being held in Montenegro,so a practise session using the type of tackle required in similar tidal conditions for species like bream and gurnards was done on a calm October weekend. In fact lots of different species were caught all on the same rigs/traces during the two days. The different species included black bream, cod, red and tub gurnards, mackerel, scad, garfish, pout, poor cod, spotted and thornback rays, various wrasse, dog fish, smooth hounds, bull huss, whiting etc and lots of mini species.Jim Whippy an England team selector came along to add his wealth of expierience and keep score of the competiton they did as individuals and teams which just made it a more interesting practise session.Jim kept changing the rules so I am not sure which team won but the individuals winner on both days was Gary Galbraithe.Pictured are the England squad.I'm sure you all wish them well in Montenego in 2010.

FLAMER III of WEYMOUTH - "STUMPY THE STINGRAY" - Nick Payne age 53 from Devon had caught two turbot and some black bream before a session at anchor saw him catch a 57Ib Common Stingray.Nick did well to land the big ray as he was only using 12Ib class tackle intended for black bream. In fact the 12Ib class rod was home made by Nick some 25 years ago.The successful bait was ragworm tipped with squid strip on a size 1 hook. The stinger had no tail,so we nick named it "stumpy".Stumpy was weighed, photographed and returned alive.
The ray is beleived to be a Weymouth port record. Nick is pictured with his prize catch.
The stingray a Flamer first is the 58th different species to be landed on Flamer III in 2009.
