Today was scheduled for a planned maintenance day but a last minute request came in yesterday evening with a Father wanting to take his young children for a couple of hours mackerel fishing. I could not let the children down and decided to run a quick trip for them inshore at 8am with flat calm seas forecast.
We sailed 1mile North of the Harbour entrance and were inundated with Jumbo Mackerel from start to finish . There were also a nice handful of Gurnard landed by the smallest guy on board and he was made up. There were however double figures of Lesser Weaver but swiftly set free.
Once the fishing session was over, we set sail for home with a Proud Father, 3 happy Children and a Bucket of Jumbo Mackerel for good measure.
Families are very Welcome on Merlin and we believe it is important to get families with children out enjoying the sea and learning the skills of Angling.

After 21 years of owning and skippering the Merlin, time to hang up my sea boots, I would like to thank all my customers old and new for all the support over the years, Ive made a lot of good friends out there and had a lot of laughs. I would like to wish the new skipper Bob lee, all the luck in the world with his new venture. The Merlin will be staying in Rhyl and continue to do charter fishing trips. The last few trips fishing has been steady, with Mackeral , Bass , Huss , Skate, Dogfish and Gurnard. Still only carrying 6 people until permitted to take more. Dates available August onwards

At long last the weather , starting to settle down got out fishing today, 5 hours inshore, fishing was hard work, But some nice Flounders, Plaice, and a few Whitings, nice to be out on a sunny calm day, hope to see , you in a month, thanks

snuck a 5 hr trip in between the windy days, fished of Prestatyn started off a bit slow as the tide eased the Whiting come on thick and fast, with a few nice Dabs and the odd Pouting inbetween, next trip in anybody is interested wendesday and Thursday next week get in touch for details

After all the bad weather and cancellations, first trip of the year out today, fished well right from the start, with Whitings non stop all day, had a move right inshore to see if we could catch some Codlings, but water too clear, but lovely flat calm sunny day, plenty off fish see you in 2 weeks lads , thanks.

8 hr trip today with some old regulars, fished inshore of Prestatyn because of the strong south east wind, plenty of Dabs and Whiting, then moved of the end of the river of Rhyl, plenty of dabs whitings and two nice skate, thanks lads see you again soon
