Another superb days ray fishing aboard Predator. Setting off from Poole we went in search of bait for the day, a steady 20 knots saw us in swanage bay before the first cuppa was finished!! In 10 minutes we had more than enough bait for the day so we headed to the chosen mark near dancing ledge and dropped the hook.
It wasn't before long before the first tell tale rustle on the rod tip meant a ray was settling onto the fresh mackerel bait. Sure enough a good pull over and the first Ray was hooked. Action continued all day and to be honest I lost count but somewhere between 30/40 rays were boated photographed and released. Biggest went to Ross who managed to beat his brother by about a 1lb!!
If you fancy a days Ray fishing then give me a call to book your space. -

A great day afloat for the lads from Bournemouth who beat their own boat record for number of rays boated.
After a late start (weather forecast wrong again!!) we set off across Swanage bay in search of bait. After a short while we found enough mackerel for the day and dropped anchor at our chosen mark. It wasn't long before the rays moved in on our fresh bait. Actioned continued all day and a total of 30 rays were boated photographed and returned. The previous best for the lads was 27. We managed 3 different species; undulate, spotted & thornback.

A great day a float with the lads from the Thamesdown Bus Company from Swindon. We originally were going to target bream but with high tide in the bay at the beginning of the trip I suggested we try a deeper mark in Poole bay for rays first and then bream later in the day.
We headed out at a steady 20 knots (Predator fully feeling her recently cleaned bottom!!) to the chosen mark. Hooks baited, lowered and cuppa made. It wasn't long before the bites started and some decent fish being boated. Suffice to say that the lads didn't want to go breaming in the afternoon as they were happy battling the rays (undulate, spotted & small eyed) , tope, smoothound & congers. Oh and we did manage to get a few bream for tea!! -

A great day on the rays for the lads from the Thamesdown bus company. A total of 20 undulates & 6 spotted rays were boated and returned after a quick photo. A couple of bonus congers including a 40lber for the skipper. No problem finding the mackerel for bait plus plenty of good size ones to take home.

With a brief break in the windy weather the lads from Thames Valley Police enjoyed a day on the bream. An early start saw us head off to a small reef at a steady 19 knots. With tea in hands the lads were full of anticipation at catching their first bream of the season.
A quick couple of drifts for mackerel and we had enough bait for the day. With anchor dropped the boat settled in the tide and tell tale rattle of the rod tips meant we were in the right place. With bream coming in steady it was nice to see the lads putting all females back with only a couple of male fish being taken for the table for each person. Pictured here is David with the biggest bream of the day, a fine 3lb male fish. -

On a recent bream trip a lucky angler smashed the boat record for a spotted ray!! Fed up of catching bream Oz, from High Wycombe, decided to try a mackerel fillet tipped with a squid head. After seeing his friend Mark land a nice small eyed ray he watched his rod tip with renewed viggor! Sure enough 10 minutes before lines up his rod bent into a good fish. After lots of jeering from his colleages I safely slipped the net under what I new was a cracking spotted ray. After a quick photo the fish was weighed at 5lbs 6oz. The fish was returned and swam confidentally back down to where she came.

The weather & fish gods were smiling on us as we headed west towards Dancing Ledge. Although we struggled to find the mackerel we eventually got enough for the day. A total of 20 rays were boated with the biggest falling to Gary at 14lb. All fish were returned alive after a quick photo.

A recent trip along the jurassic coast with a crew from Thames Valley Police produced some great ray action. Pictured here is Sid with a fine 13lb specimen. After a quick photo the fish was returned to fight another day. It was hard luck for organiser, Pete, who lost a big bass on the surface before yours truly could get the net!!
