Went out with this gent twice in 2015 in July, thoroughly enjoyed Dominic's boat and his assistance. We are returning twice to portpatrick from 18th June and again 25th July both for a week a will not hesitate to book a 3 or 4 hours trip. Can't wait... Even though I am a amateur had a great time and wow does Dominic have some patience. Keep up the great work.. See you in 10 days. Tony

period upto 3rd june:
fishing has been varied and most trips have been 3 hrs...we have caught plenty of doggies,whiting,small codling/haddock.
we hit a large shoal of coalies on monday and landed 10 st of fish upto 2lb in about 20 mins(3 at a time)
plenty of huss around but smallish....today (3/6/16) I landed a 10/9/7lb huss on the outer banks.
mackerel are very scarce(only 6 in the past 14 days!!)
pollack are in the weeds,biggest just over 4lb,currently taking spinners or feathers...
only trip worthy of note was 29/5/16....went skate fishing and landed 1 at 75lb but caught over 50 huss,biggest 15lb plus a 11lb and 10lb -

I had Ian and the fireman out on a glorious sunny day and they just wanted to fish for commons.....we caught 2.
first was a large male(123lb) and second was a female(148lb)....at one point,we had 4 on at once.
If you want to target the skate in only 70ft of water,with the biggest at 192lb(so far)....ring me ,I limit the trips to max 5 anglers at £60pp inclusive of tackle.belly pads and harness are also provided

JACKPOT! JACKPOT!
today after steaming15mins from the harbour and only 10 mins fishing,jonathon hooked and landed(105mins) a common skate.
it was 7ft 3" long...5ft9"wide ...8.5" thick
using orkney skate trust data(with 5% deviation) it was registered between 192-202lb in weight -

had stewart and the silver lure boys out.....a day that was all about the skate.
we had one at 17lb(weighed),one released in the water(hook straightened but hook trace held)estimated around 150lb and another landed and another at 150lb...in all 12 skate were hooked but only 3 landed.
there was a sprinkling of cod,whiting,haddock and dogs.we tried for pollack close in but fish are few and far between and small...biggest 3.5lb
orkney skate trust data was used to approximate fish weight -

had the boys from heads of ayr today and had a mixed bag of dogs, whiting,codling and haddock plus a sprinkling of huss.best 8.5lb

had ian and rob out to target huss and commons......20 mins in and I had my first common skate(40"tip to tip/53"long) and approx 37lb...shortly afterwards and 8.5lb huss and a few bsmaller bits to the boys.Then I hooked into a larger beast...3 times on the surface,3 times it went belly up and it was just out of reach to handline in...the 4th dive snapped the rod and braid....according to the graphs it was 150-170lb

COMMON SKATE......these beautiful creatures are making a comeback in southwest scotland.so far this year we have landed 2 males (22 & 32lb) but we are getting hooked into much bigger specimens and all in 65-85ft of water......not the 500ft of water at oban.

just a short 3hr trip as the tides are so big....just fishing around the slack period but we still managed 10 huss between 3 of us! biggest was 14.5lb plus a 12lb a 10lb and all others in the 7-9lb range.
also lots of doggies...
again we were hooked into another common skate but there was too much tide running and it found a weakness in the braid and made good its escape.thats 2 landed and 8 lost in the past fortnight. -

just a short 4hr trip today that was perdominantly dogfish with a huss of 8lb and another common skate for "bearded chris",the skate was 37" across the wings and 48" long.
using the "orkney skate trust" weight chart it was approx 31lb.
another skate was hooked and lost.
we have now had 6 hookups and 2 landings in the past 2 weeks and we are only fishing in 70ft of water
