had Ronnie and his pals out on saturday...bit of a scratching around day for doggies and whiting til we found the cod and haddock on a reef...we got around 20 cod with 13 keepers,biggest 4.5lb and 12 haddock to 1.5lb.
a decision to move was made and we started getting doggies and whiting again.....
then we got hooked into another common skate that just kept taking line against a rod bent double.35mins we tussled and made no headway and then the line parted.
thats 5 hook-ups in 10 days with 1 landed and we are only fishing in 65-80ft of water....the trouble with not targetting them is we arent using the gear to beat them...... -

had 2 boys over from Hartlepool who wanted "huss" and "spurs" and thats what they got plus 4 "hook-ups" with common skate with a smaller one landed.This was a small male at 31" tip to tip and over 4ft long.the graph put it at approx 21lb.(see photo)
we also had doggies 4 huss at 6lb and 6 spurdogs(15.5/14.5/13.5/12.5/2 x 8lb.the spurs enjoyed peeler crab,oily squid, mackerel and mussel -

Took frank and andy today on an exclusive charter....blustery day,cold east wind but we caught fish and plenty of them....
cod to 2.5lb
haddock to 1.5lb
dogfish,whiting,a 3 beard rockling that was 18" long,2 conger eels(5lb) and over 70 huss,they were coming up 2 at a time in the 3-5lb range with a couple at 6lb and several that were under 6oz! never seen them so small -

had tony and mike out for a 3hr trip,water murky but fish happy to bite....we had 6 ling around the 3lb mark,some dogs,whiting,small codling and the best of the day.....11.5lb huss(see photo) for mike...this was his first ever boat fishing trick,beginners luck does happen!

Had Stewart Walker and his boys out today....with a freshening sou'westerly all day,getting the anchor to hold was difficult but when we did we caught fish.tally for the day was 25 bullhuss from 12oz to 14lb 4oz and another at 11.5lb,some 40/50 dogs,same of whiting in 6-10oz range,1 spur,1 haddock and 3 codling at around 2.5lb

had some of the boys from paisley out today....sea was flat and the sun shone bright and the request was for bull huss and spurdogs and thats what we got!
general consensus was that we had in excess of 70 spurdog with the best at 7lb 2oz with another at 6lb 14oz and they were coming up 2 at atime(mostly 3-4lb),the sea bed must have been carpeted with them!!we also caught a dozen bull huss with the biggest at 13lb 3oz.we also caught in excess of 40 doggies,the same in whiting but all about 6-8oz,1 ling,1 rockling,1 octopus,1 codling.

the wind has played havoc with our ability to put to sea,the sea is stirred and coloured and we have had to wait for the ebb tide to gain clarity
the most recent trips have produced haddock,codling,whiting,doggies,coalies,plenty of whiting,a couple of small huss and some pollack from the weeds under the cliffs(best is 6.5lb)
now is the time to start uptiding for the codling close in after a good rough sea....so if anyone is interested in that,drop me a line

just a 2hr trip today to a little rocky outcrop 500yards from the harbour entrance.....anchor down and 5 mins later a 16.5lb huss for skipper dom!!
40 mins later another at 13.5lb and thankfully it was for the customer! I cant go stealing all the glory
water was filthy and we just caught dogfish and a solo conger and a single whiting -

had gordons' boys out and it was a mixed bag with poor water clarity...
managed cod,haddock,whiting,pollack,coalies,gurnard(grey and tub) and some ballan wrasse(biggest 2.75lb)
pollack are still in the weed and partial to ragworm on leadheads
3 mackerel landed -

period 2-5th october
the wind has been playing havoc along with big tides and coloured water ....we have "chipped away" at it and have caught mackerel (very few) doggies,whiting,haddock,codling,gurnards,ling, scorpion fish and a solo huss(photo at 6.5lb).
the pollack continue to feed round the headlands in the weeds preferring the ragworm or mackerel belly on jig heads(best 4lb)
