the wind continues to play havoc with the fishing and trips to sea have been few............

8th october....mixwed bunch of the glasgow boys and fishing was slow.We did however manage a 30lb tope,a 15lb smoothound,a 5lb starry smoothound a couple of decent huss at 10lb along with loads of mini mackerel, codling, haddock, whiting, doggies and all 3 species of gurnard.we also caught a garfish, something I have never seen in these waters.the pollack fishing in the weeds continues to be excellent with the biggest at 7lb

10th october....the small whiting that have been prolific all summer were absent today and so were the larger predators.the whiting were replaced by a plague of grey gurnards.1 tope at 35lb was caught.the pollack fishing was excellent with Clive catching one over 10lb and lots more in the 5-7lb range

the pollack fishing in september and october has been the best of the season and something to consider for next year

14th october.......only a 2hr trip but managed over 50 codling(just under legal limit, small haddock and whiting and some mackerel along with all 3 species og gurnard, coalies, pollack and pouting

Fantastic days fishing with Dominic. Plenty of species were caught including Cod, Haddock, Pollock, Coalfish, Doggies, Whiting, Red, Grey and Tub Gurnard, Wrasse and a spectacular 35lb tope.

Dominic is a great Skipper, very friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth booking for trips in Portpatrick, I'll definitely be back.

finally the wind eased and we got out fishing!!!Had 4 boys on for a full day and it was a great days fishing.Initially looking for mackerel(which were scarce and very small(4")),we put the anchor down to sit and wait and fish thru' til the tide started to ebb.....we got 10 huss over 10lb and lots more were lost on the way up,we got 1 tope(27lb) lots of whiting(which were used for bait) and 2 common skate(54lb and137lb).the tactics were then changed and we had a couple of long drifts which produced many more whiting(4 at a time),codling that were just undersize(2 at a time) some haddock for the table and 4 small ling along with doggies and pouting. The last hour was spent in the harbour entrance for pollack and we landed about 20-25 pollack (biggest 5.5lb) and a couple of coalfish

the biggest skate is shown and took 45mins to land.

bookings are now being taken for 2017

this report covers period a windy 13-20 september....
the current main species we are catching on every trip are doggies, pollack, coalies, mackerel, herring, all 3 gurnards, codling, haddock and whiting(only small and in plague proportions!!)

    13th.....codling to 4.5lb,haddock to 2.5lb,some small huss and a tope of 44.5lb
14th....huss made a return with several doubles and other smaller ones, pollack prolific in the weeds taking chrome jigheads and silver mackerel belly(biggest 7.5lb)
15th....a 4 hr trip that was spent wholly on the drift and fish were everywher with over 20 codling taken home upto 4.5lb,but whiting were coming up 6 at a time on the feathers, codling coming up 3 at a time, gurnards also 3 at a time and plenty of haddock doubles.mackerel were prolific everywhere
17th....all the usual suspects present plus a 7.5lb smoothound and 6 double figure huss(biggest 13.8lb),also another good session on the pollack, especially in the harbour entrance
20th....2 nice huss at 10 and 10.5lb,good sport with the pollack in the harbour mouth......common skate hooked but not landed

it is noticeable that the spurdogs have disappeared this month, there are lots of tiny mackerel around and the pollack fishing in the kelp is the best it has been all year....this is a repeat of 2015

the wind has been a problem for most of august and now into september , but on saturday with a better forecast ,we put to sea with adrians' boys from preston.scratching around inshore,we caught the usual suspects of codling, haddock, whiting, doggies, small huss, small coalies & pollack along with all 3 gurnard species, mackerel, herring and sandeel.A break in the wind let us nip offshore and it paid dividends...we got 4 huss,2x 10lb 1x 18.5lb and a monster 21lb 4oz!!
That huss as I was informed 2 days later would have beaten the scottish boat record by about 1lb.....so I suppose,we caught an unofficial boat record.....well done graham

had Tam Mckracken and his boys out today and it was a repeat of the day previous(27th august) with plenty of species showing up and 17 spurdogs with the best going 19.5lb....again the small whiting that were caught off this bank accounted for the biggest fish.
we also landed 15 pollack from the harbour mouth averaging 3-4lb with ian getting the best at 8lb
this bank is only 25mins steaming from portpatrick so its giving the angler more fishing and less travelling!

had a mixed bunch of boys out today and it was quite a hectic 6hhrs! sailed off to a bank that regularly produces about 12-14 species along with good huss, spurdogs and tope and it didnt disappoint!we had 14 good spurdogs and only 2 were single figure fish....most were in the 10-14lb range with a couple into 15lb and ian getting a 19.5lb and jonathon a 20.5lb!!(pictured)
there were also huss(biggest +15lb),haddock,codling,whiting,mackerel,herring,launce,doggies to name but a few.
the bank is packed with6-8" whiting and when caught and used for bait accounted for the better fish
