The fishing has slowed over the last few days, I think this is because lots of bait fish have arrived along with plenty of mackerel.
When this happens it can be hard to catch on artificial lures so fresh or live mackerel is much better.
The size of the fish is very good, most of the lads onboard smashing there PBs!!
Ling to 32lb,
John Dory to 7lb (a new boat record),
Pollack to 10lb,
Conger to 35lb,
And yet again a good old 45lb Sunfish on the legendary orange jelly worm ����.
As you can see from all our regular reports, the quality of the fishing on offer in Plymouth makes it one of the best sea fishing ports on the south coast.
Sadly we are fully booked for the rest of 2018,
We do have 1 day available for 2019 from Plymouth.

Another good day onboard Size Matters from Plymouth.
Between 10 anglers they caught,
93 Pollack to 11lb,
21 Ling to 20lb 8oz,
16 Coalfish to 6lb,
3 Megrim to 1lb 8oz,
1 Conger 25lb,
1 Cod 5lb,
And yet again a good old Sunfish about 30lb!!
This was the first time I have seen Megrim caught on rod and line.
They where caught on lures while drifting over the wrecks.
As for the Sunfish we catch them pretty regularly on orange jelly worms when they are on the surface ��.
The rest of 2018 is fully booked from Plymouth but I have 4 days available for 2019 from Plymouth.
July 17th, 18th, 31st,
August 21st,
These dates are available for whole boat only charter in 2019.

I had a group of regular anglers on today from Bristol, they wanted to try for some big Ling.
Conditions where perfect to target big Ling on the drift, no wind and a neap tide.
So I decided to take the lads to one of my honey holes where I have caught lots of monster Ling over the years.
As soon as we got to my chosen mark the lads where in to Ling from the first drift.
We also put a rod out for mackerel and they where coming in by the string full, FINALLY!!!
The lads caught 30+ Ling, 8 Conger and a Sunfish.
The biggest Ling was caught by 70 year old Chris Brown, it tipped the scales at 36lb 8oz and was the biggest Ling he has every caught in 55 years of fishing!
It was his first time onboard Size Matters and I am sure it won’t be his last.
I have a fishing club out with me on Sunday July 15th they have 4 places available.
I also have a fishing club out with me on Saturday and Sunday September 15th and 16th, they have 1 place available.

A very nice day yesterday, I had a group of 4 anglers onboard who hired the whole boat, they landed,
80+ Pollack to 13lb, 6 Coalfish to 8lb,
1 Ling 6lb, 15 Blue Sharks to 70lb+ and a good old Sunfish for good measure!!
When we where sharking there was no mackerel at all so we used the fish frames and guts as chum.
The amount of May weed in the water was so bad that we had to clean the shark traces every 30 mins.
Some very good news is we seen two very big Tuna come out the water about 50 yards from the boat feeding on bait fish.
So things are looking good for the rest of the summer season in Plymouth.
I have had a few cancellations for August,
28th Whole boat available.
29th While boat available.
30th 3 places available on a 23 hour sharking trip cost is £220 per person, max 6 anglers everything is included.

Just got back from another Guernsey trip, the plan was to fish 3 days but the weather had other ideas.
So I suggested to the lads we do 2 very long days fishing and then just steam home on the 3rd day when the weather not ideal for fishing.
All the lads where well up for it so I decided to fish a few marks I have never been to before, this turned out to be a very wise move.
We where straight into Pollack to 16lb,
Ling to 20lb 8oz, Cod to 5lb and Coalfish to 5lb. All the lads onboard caught there PB Pollack and Ling.
On the second day we decided to go for Bream first then have ago for Turbot.
Mackerel was hard to find but we just got enough for bait.
There was plenty of Bream about but all small, then we had ago for Turbot.
The first mark was very slow with just one small Turbot caught.
Then we moved to another other mark every drift the lads where catching Dogfish, things where not looking good.
Time for another move then it was third time lucky, first drift bingo a cracking Turbot
of 12lb 4oz for 66 year old Brain Bridger.
Brian’s son Steve had booked the trip for his Dad over a year ago, Steve told me on the phone my dad has never caught a Turbot before that’s why we wanted to give Guernsey ago.
We are now fully booked for the rest of 2018 from Plymouth.

We are just steaming back to Plymouth from Guernsey after a 5 day charter.
Fresh bait was a big problem at times but we chipped away and done well in the end.
The lads caught,
Blonde Ray to 16lb,
Undulated Ray to 14lb,
Pollack to 12lb,
Cod to 12lb,
Ling to 10lb,
Turbot to 5lb,
Tub Gurnard to 4lb,
Bass, Black Bream, Red Gurnard, Mackerel, Scad, Lance, Pout, Poor Cod, Whiting, Dogfish.
Star of the trip was 81 year old Brian Webster from Liverpool, he caught his first ever Turbot of 5lb. He has been fishing 63 years and still enjoys being out fishing with his mates.
We only have a few individual places available for 2018.

The lads from Sefton SAC have been fishing with me for the last week.
They are a good bunch of lads from my home town of Costa Del Liverpool and I have known them for many years.
They enjoyed so good fishing with a few PB’s caught, but as always in the fishing game not
everything goes to plan.
We couldn’t catch any mackerel for bait and we tried to buy if from the fish quay, but there wasn’t much about and the stuff that was available cost £7.50 per kg.
So we decided to stick to staying on the drift using artificial lures to target Cod, Pollack and Ling.
On two of the days we had lost of May weed in the water, at one point it was so thick it was dripping off the rod eyes like strawberry jam,
it was the worst I have ever seen it.
The lads still managed to catch,
Pollack to 16lb, Ling to 14lb 8oz, Cod to 12lb, Whiting to 4lb 1oz and John Dory to 4lb.
Two weeks prior to there trip I posted a photo of a 6lb John Dory, one of the lads from Sefton SAC Mr Pete Plasskett said can you get me one of them when we are out with you.
I replied I can not get them to order, well how wrong I was. On the third day Pete Plasskett got his John Dory!!! So from now on Size Matters does John Dory’s to order ha ha ha.
We only have a few individual places available for 2018.

From now till mid October the fishing from Plymouth will be at its best.
The Conger fishing has finally kicked off in style, over two days we fished a wreck I call the snake pit. This wreck back in the 90s produced some monster Conger to 106lb,
The lads caught 126 Congers to 58lb, the reason we fished the same wreck over the two days was to try and get that 100lb+ Conger.
Sadly it never happened this time but the lads enjoyed some outstanding fishing.
Please note all Congers where returned alive to fight another day.
Fishing on the drift with artificial lures and bait is producing lots of Ling to 28lb, Pollack to 13lb 8oz, Coalfish to 10lb and Cod to 7lb.
We only have a few individual places available for 2018.
