During November we only managed to get to the wrecks twice and it was well worth the effort. The lads caught plenty of Pollack to 6lb, we will continue to fish the off shore wrecks throughout the winter. Please note this involves traveling for up to 3.5 hours each way, all Wrecking charters are £80 per person. If the weather is to bad to get to the wrecks then we will be fishing the Mersey.
Our planned charter trips to fish the banks and Queens channel on the spring tides during November where cancelled due to the strong NW winds. We have lots of these trips fully booked for December but there is still available dates for January and February. Cost is £45 per person all tackle is included and hot drinks.
As for the Mersey the the cod are starting to make more of an appearance especially towards the end of the month. An average day seems to a dozen Cod a day to 7lb 14oz with rays to 10lb, any amount of whiting to 1lb 8oz and Dabs. These charters are £45 per person includes all tackle and hot drinks.
Personally I think the seasons are getting later each year and it won’t be long till the Cod arrive in big numbers consistently.
Last winter we had our best day in February 64 Cod, I would settle for that again this winter.

The fishing from Liverpool continues to be giving good sport from the long distance wrecks, producing good catches of Pollack to 10lb, lots of small Coalfish to 4lb, odd Codling and plenty of Mackerel. The Mersey still continues to be fishing well for Rays to 10lb 14oz up to 50 per trip, Cod to 7lb 2oz up to 12 per trip and loads of Whiting and Dabs.
All the signs are there for this winter to be just as good if not better than last year.

Size Matters is back on the mighty Mersey, after the 360 mile steam from Plymouth. On the way back we managed to do a few hours fishing, catching Haddock to 4lb, Whiting to 2lb and a 45lb Porbeagle. At the start of the first set of neap tides on the Mersey fishing was slow with rays to 8lb and Cod to 4lb. As the tides dropped the fishing got much better catching Thornback Ray to 8lb and Cod to 7lb 6oz. At times the rays are that thick on the ground we have had to move up to 4 times on a tide to try and get away from them. We have been catching 40 to 50 rays a trip along with Cod, Whiting, Dabs and Doggies. On one of the days I had lads from Taskers Angling out with me for there monthly charter, the weather was perfect so I said to the lads do you fancy going Wrecking for a change. All the lads said yes, our chosen wrecks where off the coast of the Isle of Man so it was a long steam out but it was well worth it thank god!!! In the first two hours the lads landed 51 Pollack to 7lb 8oz and they finished the day with 86 Pollack. From now on if we get very good weather and the lock times are right I will offer my anglers a chance at Wrecking instead of fishing the Mersey through out the winter months. The cost of Wrecking is £80 per person for individuals or whole boat is £800. Please note we will be traveling 60 plus miles and fuel is expensive in Liverpool Marina.

The summer season has come to an end for Size Matters in Plymouth, tomorrow we will be sailing 360 miles to Liverpool for the winter Cod season. Looking back over the summer we had some fantastic catches, Bluefin Tuna to 300lb+, Blue Shark to 105lb, Conger to 90lb, Sunfish to 40lb, Ling to 38lb, Porbeagle Shark to 35lb, Cod to 20lb, Blond Ray to 20lb, Pollack to 18lb, Undulate Ray to 17lb, Bass to 8lb 8oz, Coalfish to 8lb, John Dory to 6lb 8oz, Small eyed Ray to 6lb, Tub Gurnard to 5lb 8oz, Turbot to 5lb, Brill to 4lb, Whiting to 3lb, Garfish to 2lb 8oz, Cuckoo Wrasse to 1lb 12oz, Black Bream to 2lb, we even caught a few Red Band Fish and a Top Knot.
Best day drifting the wrecks we caught 134 Pollack. Best day anchoring the wrecks we caught 109 Conger, best day sharking we caught 28 in a day. The Black Bream fishing in the channel island was pretty good with 60 to 70 in a day, sadly the banks didn’t produce like they have in previous years. Also the Cod Fishing in the English Channel this summer was not a patch on previous years.
On the bright side there are more Bluefin Tuna in the English Channel than Mackerel believe me, most days Wrecking I will do 100 mile round trip. Since July through to October we see shoals of Tuna daily, some are just a few fish and in some shoals there are over 200 on the surface. It’s a sight to behold when you see fish from 80lb to 500lb jumping clear of the water only 30 meters from the boat. If the day comes when we can target them on a catch and release basis it will boost the UK charter fleet and put hundreds of thousands of pound in to local businesses.
There will be no need to travel half way around the world spending thousands of pounds on big game fishing, you could do it in your own country no that’s a dream come true for all anglers in the UK.

Size Matters will be back in Liverpool from October 20th and this winter we are busier than ever. We have over 70 days booked for the winter season so far, let’s hope it’s as good as last year. Charters on the Mersey cost £45 per person and most charters are 10 hours depending on the lock times. All tackle is included and hot drinks, if you lose any rigs or leads we don’t charge you. Bait can be arranged if you need it or bring your own.

It’s now that time of year where the weather is good one day and bad the next. The fishing continues to be very good from Plymouth, with lots of quality fish being caught.
Conger to 61lb, Ling to 22lb, Pollack to 18lb and Cod to 16lb. If the weather settles we will continue to keep our anglers on the fish for our last two weeks in Plymouth this season.

The Shark fishing season is now over for Size Matters, during the last week we have been traveling up to 45 miles south west of Plymouth to keep up with the sharks as they migrate for the winter. On some days I have kept the lads out for up to 14 hours just to keep them on the Sharks at no extra cost. We have been catching Blues to 84lb and baby Porgies to 25lb.
On the spring tides the Bass fishing has been very good most are 4lb to 6lb with the odd bigger one to 8lb 8oz. While targeting the Bass we have been catching plenty of Pollack to 8lb all on lures. We even caught a Top Knot (type of flat fish) only the second one I have ever seen, if only they grew to the size of halibut.
With just three weeks left in Plymouth we will be targeting big Conger on the neap tides and Bass, Pollack, Ling and Cod on the spring tides.
If you are one of the lucky anglers booked on with us for the last few weeks then you are in for some cracking sport.

It's good to be back out again after all the bad weather we have had recently. We have been targeting Conger and Sharks over the last few days, catching Blue Shark to 98lb 8oz, Conger to 63lb, Porbeagle Shark to 60lb, Ling to 28lb, Cod to 16lb, Bass to 4lb, Garfish to 2lb 8oz and Red Band Fish.
We had a red letter day on the Conger, between 11 anglers we caught 109 Conger to 63lb. Mick Southworth caught two Conger over 60lb, we also caught Ling to 28lb and Cod to 16lb. Most of the Conger where 25lb to 35lb, in total we had over 3000lb of fish that day.
On the Sharks best day has been 21 Blues to 95lb and two Porgies to 60lb sadly as I was about to lift the 60lb Porgie in to the boat but he spat the hook. It's good to see the baby Porgies, just need to find where there mother lives now. Please note all Sharks and 98% of Conger are returned alive, if we catch a Conger that is deep hooked and someone wants to take it for the table that's fine.

ATTENTION ALL ANGLERS..
Size Matters will be in Liverpool for the winter Cod season on the 20th October and will be available for charters from October 23rd to April 9th. Kevin will be fishing neap tides in the Mersey and Spring tides over the banks and channels in Liverpool Bay. Size Matters will be sailing from Liverpool Marina and most charters will be 9 to 10 hours depending on lock times each day. It has also been known for Kevin to stay out for up to 13 hours at no extra charge!!

Kevin has over 30 years fishing experience and is a mad keen angler who lives for fishing.

LIVERPOOL..
Kevin is a born and bread scouser and he knows the Mersey like the back of his hand.
The best things about fishing in the winter from Liverpool you are fishing within 10 minutes of leaving the lock gates, you are fishing in well sheltered areas from the strong winds, you have the view of the world famous Liverpool water front just a few hundred yards away and best of all is the fishing. Last year our best day on the Cod was 64 keepers to 15lb 8oz, our best day on the Thornback rays was 56 to 13lb 5oz!!!
THE VESSEL SIZE MATTERS..
Please note Size Matters is 45ft in length and is 16ft wide. This provides a massive deck space and can easily accommodate 12 anglers in comfort, some anglers even bring fold out camp chairs there is that much room.
Cost for the whole boat charter is £450 maximum 12 anglers and individuals are £45 per person. All charters include top quality rod and reel hire, all your rigs, weights and hot drinks. Bait can be arranged if you need it, black lug is £3 per pack of 10, squid is in 1lb boxes and costs £4 per box.
ONBOARD FACILITIES..
We do not do food just quality fishing charters but there is a microwave and kettle onboard if you would like to use them.
The wheelhouse can seat up to 10 anglers and is fully heated; perfect if it's a wet cold winter day or night to dry out and warm up.
There is heated and spacious toilet facilities you can use at your convenience, but must be kept clean at all times.
If you want to keep your catch for the table Kevin will professionally fillet it so you don't have to do it when you get home after a long day at sea.

Over the last week we have been helping a few kids get into sea fishing, the weather has been very good so I decided to throw the kids in at the deep end and take them wrecking.
To get kids interested in fishing on there first few times out you need to help them catch something big, that gives them the wow factor to get them hooked. On one of the days 11 year old Harrison Jones from Newport caught the biggest Pollack of the day, a cracking summer Pollack of 13lb. On a different day 10 year old Arron Higham from Preston caught the biggest Pollack of the day 11lb and he also caught the most. The kids absolutely loved the trips, it's so important to get kids into fishing instead of sitting at home playing on iPads and Xbox's.
It's a big world out there and experiencing nature first hand beats technology every time!!!
On other trips we have been catching Blue Shark to 80lb, Conger to 43lb, Ling to 38lb, Cod to 18lb, Pollack to 17lb, Tub Gurnard to 5lb 8oz and a 40lb Sunfish that came to say hello.
Bookings for 2018 have been coming in thick and fast and we are now 75% fully booked, a very big thank you to everyone who has booked for next year from Plymouth.
