This is the first good run of weather we have had this year, let's hope it continues all summer. With the weather improving all the time so has the fishing, best day this week we totalled 75 pollack to 12lb and 19 Ling to 16lb. This was a very good day to be fare, on an average day we are catching 40 to 50 pollack to 12lb, ling to 24lb, odd coalfish to 6lb, odd cod to 13lb and odd conger to 29lb on the drift.
Today we fished the reefs inshore, there was not much tide or wind so the fishing was a bit scratchy. We totally 35 pollack to 8lb, the inshore fishing will improve all the time now as the summer kicks in.
Here are a list of the next available dates,
    May 19th
    June 23rd,
    July 3rd, 4th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 31st.
If you fancy a a day out give me a call.

    Cheers

Last week we had our first trip of the year to Guernsey, the fishing was very slow due to the water being very coloured. Even the local boat's where struggling and told me it's the worst they have known for a very long time. We did manage to catch on the reef's and wreck's, Ling to 16lb, Pollack to 11lb, Cod to 13lb 8oz, Tub Gurnard to 4lb 8oz and just the one Black Bream.
Just before the Guernsey trip we had two charter's out of Plymouth catching good number's of Ling to 21lb 8oz, Pollack to 12lb, Cod to 10lb and Whiting to 3lb.
Next available dates from Plymouth are May 9th, 10th, 12th, 15th and 19th.

    Cheers

We managed to get out both day's over the weekend, this could be a sign the summer is on it's way. On Saturday I had a group of regular's from Bristol onboard, when we set off at 7am the lad's asked me if I could take them pollack fishing and they did not want any ling as they caught enough when they where out with me in March. If only I could order what fish they wanted, it would make my life a lot easier ha ha.
We arrived at the first mark about an hour before low water on a very small tide, trying to catch pollack with very little or no tide can be very challenging to say the least.
For the first few hour's it was hard going with only a few pollack to 12lb and a ling to show for our effort's. I told the lad's as soon as the tide flood's we will start catching some pollack, slowly but surely they started to come onboard. The lads finished the day with 30+ pollack to 15lb and a few ling to 8lb. On Sunday I had another group of angler's from Bristol onboard, six of them where rod hire's and some of them had never fished before. Bearing this in mind I picked a mark that was not to snaggy and easy to fish, or the tackle losses and tangle's would be very high. We where about two hour's from low water with no wind on a neap tide, perfect for drifting with bait.
The first few hour's where very good catching up to 7 ling a drift, then as we approached slack water the fishing just when off. When the tide started to flood we tried a few mark's on the way home with lure's but only managed a few pollack and odd ling. We finished the day with 40+ ling to 18lb and 3 pollack to 11lb 8oz. As you can see two days are never the same when it come's to fishing. I didn't manage to get any photo's of Sunday's trip as I was too busy looking after the lad's on rod hire and filleting the fish for them. They all enjoyed the day and booked the boat for the next available weekend October 9th.

On Wednesday we had the lad's from Taskers Angling Liverpool onboard for there first trip to Plymouth. The pressure was on to show them just how good the fishing can be in the English Channel.
I told the lad's the weather was perfect for Wednesday but Thursday was going to go bad in the afternoon. I suggested we have a very long day on Wednesday then Thursday just fish inshore till the weather turned bad.
The lad's all agreed to do just that, we started at 6am on Wednesday. We headed out, after a few hours we where at our first mark. From the first drift the lad's where into fish and it didn't stop till the lad's had enough at about 2.30pm. What a first day 64 fish on the boat, Ling to 22lb, Pollack to 16lb and Cod to 12lb.
On the Thursday we started at 6am and just fished the inshore marks, the fishing started off well then as the flood tide picked up against the east wind the fishing became much harder so we headed in about 2pm. We totalled 21 fish on the boat Ling to 17lb 8oz, Cod to 10lb and Pollack to 9lb. Not too bad for a few hours inshore fishing.
The lad's still enjoyed the day even though they where still tired from the day before.
At the end of the two day's the lad's had enough fillets each to start there own chippy ha ha.
Also on Tuesday we managed a trip to the skerries plaice fishing, three lad's from Nottingham booked the whole boat.
When we got to the skerries the water was very coloured due to the south east gale's a few days before. The fishing was going to be hard with far from ideal condition's we totalled 20+ plaice to 1lb 8oz, 4 small blonde ray to 7lb, 6 spurdog to 10lb, whiting and dogfish. All on the drift fishing for plaice, we spoke to a few local boat's there and they where struggling as well. One boat said he was out before the south east gale's started and he caught 53 plaice to 4lb. With that in mind we will be having another go for them on the 20th or 21st depending on the weather.
Here are the next available date's in April,
    Monday 18th whole boat available,
    Wednesday 20th 6 place's available,
    Thursday 21st 5 place's available,
    Saturday 23rd 7 place's available,

We managed to get out yesterday for the first charter of the season from Plymouth,
it was my first day on the new job. It was like being back in school, learning how to fish new marks and getting to know the new boat. There was a group of local lads onboard so the expectations where high, as there was a few fish about according to the lads. As we got to the first mark we where on the last of the ebb tide we only managed a few whiting and pouting to 2lb. Then we moved to another mark, the lads tried some bait but again just whiting and pouting. We moved for the 3rd time, then we hit a few pollack to 10lb. Just as we set up the second drift a pod of dolphins started circling the boat, great to watch but they don't help the fishing. Could this first day get any worse, so off we went again, Then finally we hit a good shoal of fish. The lads where kept very busy till the end of the day, 60+ fish kept.
Ling to 23lb 8oz and Pollack to 15lb 8oz, all the lads onboard enjoyed the day and said to me they would like this type of catch on there next trip. I said if only my job was that easy ha ha.
If you fancy a trip out of Plymouth just give me a call.
Here is a list of the available dates in March.
    Tuesday 22nd,
    Wednesday 23rd,
    Thursday 24th,
I have more dates available in April and May.
