    Report on-board Duke IV

We are enjoying some super fishing out from Ramsgate, the weather has been kind too allowing us to fish places often out of reach at this time of year.
We headed south today with Roberts crew from Herne Bay and passing Kingsdown the fish marks on the sounder proved to be herrings that we caught on the feathers. We moved on to the Varne where we had Jumbo Mackerel, Bass and some tasty Turbot, the reason we came here in the first place. We stopped off at a wreck on the way back to Ramsgate where fishing the launce we had caught earlier, Chris lost a fine Bass and Rob landed a Pollack on a sidewinder.
Whiting, Bass, Skate and Hounds and the odd Cod closer to Ramsgate so plenty of species to aim for.
Looking forward to a busy winter with some weekend spaces still available on Duke IV.

Am expecting a big influx of codling any time now on the inshore marks which are sheltered from prevailing winds, I very rarely get blown off as opposed to more exposed ports or venues. The bass will probably stay around for a month or two yet because the sea temp is still quite high! This time of year usually throws up a huge fish or two. The boat will be operating between Christmas and New Year so if you fancy getting out of the house and blowing away the cobwebs and mince pies get in touch!! Have now got my 2012 diary and tide table January Feb and March should see us fishing for skate and large cod so get in touch now to book for the better tides. hope to see you all aboard Bayside soon,

The winter fishing has kicked into gear with some nice Cod now being caught around the Nab Tower, the plaice fishing is still steady with alot of smaller fish around at the moment but amongst them are a few nice fish to 4 / 5lb mark.
On the spring tides the Bass are feeding well on lures, theres some great fun to be had on spinning rods, lots of small fish around that need to be returned, but still some very nice fish amongst them, we will be targeting the Bass until the end of November only on the spring tides then mainly Cod & Whiting for the next 2 mounths.

    Report on-board Duke IV

Tomorrows trip has been cancelled due to bad weather, a problem we will be experiencing more as we move into winter. A great pity as the fishing has really picked up with good numbers of Thornback Ray arriving. Ian and Richard brought the firm out fishing, some of them for the first time where they enjoyed great Skate fishing with 2 rods bent over at the same time being a regular occurence!
We headed out to the wrecks last Sunday with Steves crew from Biggin Hill and although the Cod are moving off the wrecks we did manage a Cod amongst the Pollack. On the way back to Ramsgate we stopped on the Falls Bank and fished feathers on the drift for some large Mackerel. Steve who had struggled on the wrecks showed us the way with a 5lb Bass from the top of the bank.
The Cod are moving inshore now and along with the Skate,Whiting and of course the Bass that stay around until mid November should give us the opportunity of good fishing.
We are still doing the individuals trips each thursday throughout the winter and can take small groups out midweek at very reasonable prices. Please call Bob for details.

    Hi guys
The fishing is still busy at the moment out there in the thames estuary with some good catches of thornback rays and some nice bass.
The whitings have now made an apperance and loads of dogfish so winter must around the corner.
I have also heard of 1 or 2 codlings being caught not to far away so fingers crossed we will have a good season.
I still have a few weekend dates in my book left so if you want to get in on the action please give me a call.
I do individual days every so often on a weekend so if you would like to get on one of these then just send me your mobile number or an email and i can email you when ever one comes up.

    All the best steve

  • 04/09/2011 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

4 Sep 2011 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The weather eased over the weekend and we managed another trip to the wrecks off Ramsgate and although the fishing was tough with fewer fish being landed Brians crew from North London landed a fair number of quality Cod and Pollack.
We stopped on the Falls bank on the way home and our efforts were rewarded with some tasty Mackerel and launce. The wind soon though picked up and our hours bottom fishing was difficult in the building seas.
Inshore fishing has generally been good with plenty of fish to catch with a few School Bass, Whiting, the odd Skate and Smoothound along with of course the inevitable Doggies.
With autumn now upon us we will see the Bass and Hounds moving out of the Thames Estuary and the Cod moving inshore from the wrecks to feed on the crabs and small whiting, so although the fishing can be a bit hit or miss as expected at this time of year there is always the chance of being in the right place at the right time and bagging up.
Don't forget the individual days each thursday on Duke IV if you can't get a crew together!

As you can see with the settled weather we've been having, the fishing is going from strength to strength. We seem to be hitting personal best Bass on every trip at the moment and with double figure hounds showing between the Bass it doesn't get much better!! Still plenty of mackerel showing so no expensive bait needed for a great day afloat as a large box of squid will easily be enough for 4 anglers. Also getting Bass on feathers on inshore wrecks as the water is still clear. All these fish have been caught around the Goodwin Sands which will give you a good 7 hours fishing in an 8 hour trip! The evening trips have ceased due to the shorter nights but will start up again in May. Now starting to take bookings for Cod fishing from October onwards ( but be quick to book as we had fish to over 20lb last year) Hope to see you all soon.
