    Report on-board Skerry Belle

After taking over this boat in March the weather has stopped us getting out as much as I'd like so I haven't been posting, but as you can see now we've been able to get out onto the Bass grounds at long last. It has been hectic fishing with several specimens over 10lb with our best so far at 12lb 2oz. The Mackerel are showing everywhere, the hounds have styed with us and there are still some large skate showing on most trips. I think that the summer has arrived at last and this fishing will continue right throuh into October when hopefully the cod will arrive in numbers. All these fish were caught within 40 minutes of Ramsgate harbour which proves you don't have to steam miles and waste valuable fishing time to get really decent fish!!

Some dates are still available for day bookings and I'm still running my 4 hour evening trips which is plenty of time to catch yourself a decent specimen!!

    Report on-board Duke IV

Back out to the wrecks again on Duke IV and still plenty of Cod available. Rick caught Cod steadily throughout the day and Kevs group also caught plenty. For some of them it was their first wreck fishing trip and despite emptying my lead supply they did well catching some good Cod! The Pollack fishing was ok, not as hot as the last trip but some pretty tasty Mackerel took the jelly worms on offer!
Always interesting these individuals days, meeting new people, sometimes they struggle a bit but at the end of the day they all left with plenty of prime Cod!

    Report on-board Duke IV

    Dear Bob
Thank you so much for all your hard work on the 21 July 2011. It was the best day's sea fishing I have had in many a long year. I don't think I have seen so many cod caught on a single drift since the late sixties and early seventies, and that continued for most of the day.
The Duke IV is certainly an excellent comfortable boat and your skills at finding the fish were first class.
I had a wonderful time and was totally exhausted at the end of the day, but it was a trip I will long remember.
I shall certainly look forward to the next trip with you.
    Many thanks and best wishes
    Robert Maxted

    Report on-board Duke IV

The weather Gods are smileing on us here at Ramsgate, the sun is shining and the waters calm at last!
This has given us the opportunity to head offshore. On Wednesday Gary landed this 10lb 14oz Bass on a chunk of fresh mackerel intended for a Thornback Ray. He was'nt too disappointed!
Today we headed offshore again to the wrecks this time with a group of individuals, Danny had a number of Cod & Pollack landing the best of both species! All the anglers landed plenty of quality Cod and Pollack along with a couple of Gurnards and Bass so a good day had by all on Duke IV.

June has been an exellent month for fishing, with good catches of Rays,Bream and Smoothounds and the occasional Bass.
The Mackeral fishing has been the best that we have seen for years !
The start of July has brought windy weather but the fishing has been just as good.
Lets hope the rest of the summer continues in the same way.
Here is a photo of some Rays landed by locals. They caught 14 in total ranging from 4lbs to 15lbs including a 7lb Bass.

  • 02/07/2011 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

2 Jul 2011 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The summer species have arrived with good sport for Bass, Thornback Ray and Smoothounds. Mackerel now around in numbers some days allowing us to catch fresh bait for the Thornies!
July is the time the large Bass arrive and their is no better bait than a large fillet of mackerel fished hard on the bottom, or fished live when the water is clear!
Fish lugworm for the smaller Bass or Hokkias or white feathers when a school turns up!
Smoothounds can be caught on lug squid cocktail while the biguns like whole squid!
We are picking up some good Whiting and Pouting now on the worm and fish baits so plenty of species to aim for, just remember to bring a cool box with some ice packs to keep your catch in tip top condition while taking the fish home!

  • 01/06/2011 Fishing Report by Barry Handley on Malaki (Hayling Island, Hampshire)

    Report on-board Malaki

    June !!
Nearly all the species are here now, even the conger eel has moved inshore. And of course the weed
has come which can make fishing a bit of a problem. But you just have to find the places that are weed free
during the floood and ebb tide cycle.
We started the month of well on Malaki with plenty of Bream, Plaice, Bass & Tope, then the weather
stopped fishing it's almost like winter but l guess it's down to green house gases or is it ???
However were bashing on and getting out when we can. Had a couple of bad trips last week but this week
were back on form catching bass, conger, tope and lots of ray's so if you get a spare day, your always welcome to join us onboard Malaki !!

The picture is of Ken a very good angler and l am pleased to say a regular on Malaki with a nice 5lb 1oz plaice caught on the drift using ragworm and beades.

    Report on-board Kittiwake 111

10th June Off shore fishing trip.
It was raining hard for the first 2 hours of our journey but many cups of tea and the excitement of a good days angling was enough to keep morale high.
The day just got better and better !!!
Steve Walters from Eastleigh who had been requesting to catch Bass for weeks had his dream come true as he caught 11 Bass, the best weighing in at 11lbs. Tim the crew had his work cut out netting the catch and looking after the lads !
We caught 26 all together with a box of Polluck ,the best weighing in at 14lbs.
As the the wind picked up we headed for home.
A good day out enjoyed by all.
