    Report on-board Grey Viking

A truly memorable day aboard Grey Viking yesterday, with some decent Cod to over 20lb, a 2.5lb Whiting for 13 year old Callum Sturrock and the day topped off at last knockings with an absolute stonker of a Cod at 34lb exactly for 14 year old Tyler Hallett. Wow, way to go Tyler - your first ever Cod too!

Thanks also to Dave Grinham at The Tackle Box for verifying the weight once we got ashore!

    Report on-board Wight Huntress III

This weekend saw Wight Huntress commodore boat for the efsa England Cod Champs 2010. Langstone selected to be the venue for this years event as it is well known for it's large Cod and sheltered waters, the competitors weren't dissappointed with the largest fish at 27lbs, one six big Cod caught by this years winner.. Kim Bowden. Congratulations to Kim and also to the other skippers, Ross on Dawn Venture and particularly Laurie on Predator who boated 16 double figure Cod on Day 2 to be top boat!

Great fishing here at Ramsgate at the moment with plenty of action! Good Whiting and Doggies along with Skate and Pout. The Cod seem to have arrived at last with quite a few being reported. Richard had this 7lb beauty on Saturday fishing off Margate on Duke IV! Lug and squid being the bait of the day! A good mixed bag with some of the Whiting topping 2lb!

    Report on-board Kittiwake 111

Friday 26th november ,the day was very cold, the lads were late turning up but the winds were light, not the best direction but you can't have everything.Dave ,Tom,Robbie and Steve hired the boat to experience their first ever boat fishing trip and what a day they had !!!
We started with many Dogs,Pout and Chanel Whiting,as the tide eased we had a run of Congar Eels, the biggest weighing in at approx 40lbs.
Then Steve Kelly caught his first ever cod weighing a massive 24lbs 7oz, not bad for his first !!
We had one other Cod tippiping the scales at 20lb caught by me !!
November has overall been a good month for our winter fish.

  • 16/11/2010 Fishing Report by Bob Nunn on Last Laugh (Lymington, Hampshire)

16 Nov 2010 by Bob Nunn

    Report on-board Last Laugh

Great day out not seen cod of this calibre for over 20 years at Lymington. We had 4 over 20lb with the best at 28lb. It appears Lymington is back to it's best and this could be the year for many big cod.
We also had plenty of Dogs/Whiting/Pouting/Conger.
So get yourself booked out on Last Laugh before Xmas, great skipper, lots of tea and I believe a few spaces still avaliable.
See catch gallery on the website for some of the pictures..

  • 11/11/2010 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

11 Nov 2010 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The wind and rain are thrashing away at the windows as I write this report! I am supposed to be out with a party but hey that's the weather for you!
The fishing has been hectic when we have got out with plenty of Whiting, Dogs, pout and a few Skate! The Cod though have been a bit thin on the ground so far this winter, this is not good when we all want to catch lots of biguns. I think things are running late this year and any time now the Cod will arrive and we will wonder what the problem was. The Whiting are good and fat, coughing up crab, shrimp and spratts so there's plenty of bait out there for them!
The beach anglers seem to be getting a similar result, plenty of Whiting, with a few Cod!
We get an influx of Skate at this time of year and they seem to have arrived, as we are catching a few fish on the banks!
When this weather settles we can get out a bit further and hopefully the Cod fishing will improve, so plenty of lug and squid the order of the day with a couple of herrings for the Skate!
Plenty of dates available on Duke IV throughout December so get those Cod rods out and come on down!

  • 11/2010 Fishing Report by Neil French on Spirit of Arun (Littlehampton, West Sussex)

    Nov 2010 by Neil French

    Report on-board Spirit of Arun

Despite changeable conditions over the past weeks when we did manage to venture out, the fishing especially inshore has been superb, bream in particular have been in good numbers and whilst not as big as those we find in the spring, fish to 2lbs have been common all along the reef system between Worthing to Bognor, on favourable tides with good clarity there have been good numbers of Bass to double figures taking mackerel heads and tails on ledgered rigs, a livebait is always preferable ,but becoming scarce to find especially after a blow , which pushes the mackerel out into deeper and clearer water. Edges of the rock are producing specimen Undulate Rays to 13 lbs along with Conger and Bull Huss. Odd Cod are now showing inside 7 miles, and numbers should improve during the following weeks as they are being reported daily appearing in increasing numbers in commercial nets, we have already found a few in double figures on lures, whilst drifting for Bass. Next month as the days shorten should see the first showing of Channel Whiting and opportunities for large ground Conger, along with double figure Cod with Cuttlefish as the first choice bait on ledger rigs fished on the soft ground along the reef edges. In other port news, I am very pleased to announce the addition of qualified lady skipper Mick Mahoney to the “Spirit of Arun” team, she has been familiarising herself with the boats handling with a view to evening trips during 2011,and is already an active contrbutor to various angling magazines and forums. Ivan Warren has now officially retired having sold “Michelle Mary”, a well known and respected skipper , and a previous port reporter to this paper for many years, we wish him well for the future.
