Report on-board Duke IV
Still the summer species abound here at Ramsgate with Bass, Skate and the odd Hound making up the numbers. The water is now though cooling down and taking some colour, looking more like the dirty winter sea the Cod favour.
View Boats Page
Plenty of Whiting and Doggies to keep the rods nodding while waiting for that elusive Cod.
The bait required for a days fishing is much simpler now just lug, squid and some herrings for the Skate. Baby cuttles a great bait for the better Cod as the smaller species are not so keen, leaving it there for the Cod or large Bass that stay all winter.
Its a lovely day out here today, bright sunshine and light west winds, making the fishing much more comfortable, we have a nice Skate amongst the smaller fish so looking good with some quality Whiting!
Plenty of herring here now so when you bring up a small whiting let it back down, as small fish make up a large part of the Cods diet!
Duke IV is fishing throughout the winter so don't sit at home bored, give me a call and let's go fishing! -

But, the weather has not been good recently, looking forward to it dropping again to get so we can get out and get some of those bigger Cod. If you fancy a day out Cod fishing, individuals or groups, email me or give me a call on 07966 377145, website is updated with last minute dates. We are also fishing over the Christmas holiday period if you fancy a day out.

Weekending 19th November 2011
Saturday 19th November the Tony Lavington crew had to put up with a swell and a sloppy sea that persisted throughout the day. One or two crew struggled with the continuous motion and to be fair it was not ideal but the fishing is definitely becoming very good. Tony can be seen with his best Cod at a shade over 20lb to add to another nice Cod he caught earlier in the same tide. Pictured below on the right is Mike with two handy Cod, Tony again and Phil showing his Bass. Other notable fish was a reasonable Thornback, a good Whiting and a 20lb Conger plus some lead cable! The Pout and Dogs were there too, hanging onto the smaller hooks.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD White Maiden II

Sean Harris had a days ground fishing for Cod. He had the best one of the day that weighed 20lb and was caught using worm and squid bait, on an inshore ledge. They also had some Whiting and Dogfish that day.

The fishing has been a little inconsistant recently due to the weather. There are still Conger and Cod on the wrecks if you get the weather to get out. We have now started inshore ground fishing for Cod. It should start to improve once the weather gets colder, as we are still catching plenty of Mackerel inside, along with some Dabs and Plaice. Gosport charter boat, Cod Comp 19th November 2011.

Thanks to everyone involved in the comp and a big thanks to those who donated a prize for the prize table.
Also thanks to all the competitors for their patients and good behaviour.
The day overall was a great success except the weather!
We had 6 boat and 45 entry’s that fished the comp. Weather was S/E at 16mph and gusting to 27 mph the sea conditions were testing to say the least, and under normal circumstances I think we would have been up the Solent or cancelled. Any way the comp must go on! So we braved the condition and decided to fish the comp in an area just north of the spoil grounds.
Fishing was hard in the easterly winds, but some cod were caught.
We had 12 cod weighed in, heaviest fish was 18lbs 8oz and a total weight of 124lbs to the scales which given the conditions wasn’t bad, so well done to all those who managed to pull a cod out. I’m sure under better condition we would have seen a lot more fish weighed in.” But that’s fishing for you”!
At the weigh in: Bacon sandwiches, tea’s and coffees were well received, so thanks to Annie and her team at the boat house café in the marina where the weigh in was held, and a special thanks to Maddie, Annie’s daughter for her help in the prize draw. A job well done.
The winner of the heaviest cod went to Neil Turner with a fish of 18lbs 8oz
Second heaviest cod Garry Wiltshire with a fish of 17lbs 13oz
Third heaviest cod also Neil Turner 15lbs 7oz
Heaviest bag Neil Turner 33lbs15oz
This was Neil’s first time boat fishing in the sea, and he walked away with £500.00 of prize money, so well done Neil. -

Report on-board Valkyrie 6/8
We had a trip out with Glen targeting rays and bass in a lucky break in the winds yesterday.
View Boats Page
the first session at the bass was unproductive with just a single whiting landed and a few bass either dropped or missed. as the tide died we put the anchor down to target some blondes. we managed 6 in 1.5 hours upto 26lb along with some huss to low double figures and conger to 20lb and the ever present doggies.
as the tide picked up we went back on the drift and after a few moves we found some feeding bass and ended up with around 20 with a best of 11lb 11oz we also dropped a few decent ones with the average size of the fish landed at over 5lb. A great day on a top boat with a hard working skipper in decent winter weather. -

Report on-board Valkyrie 6/8
Fished on Valkyrie with a group of regulars from Oxfordshire on a bass trip. after a spell at anchor catching blonde rays upto 26lb, huss to 10lb, conger to 20lb and a few dogs we were on the drift for the bass. after a bit of searching we found some fish with most being over 5lb. we had to move a few times to keep on the fish but Glen worked hard to track them down and we did our best to hook them. the biggest of the day went 11lb 11oz and we had several around 9lb with a few good fish lost as well.

Report on-board Duke IV
Once again, Bob Marshall provided us with an interesting and enjoyable day's fishing. The thrill for me was catching herrings on feathers. I have always carried a couple of packs of herring lures in the rig wallet, but have never had much success on them, so it was a real bonus when Bob's eagle eye spotted a shoal of fish on his sounder as we headed south out of Ramsgate towards the Varne Bank. Bob was not quite certain what the shoal was ,but we dropped down mackeral feathers and in no time at all we were landing herrings and the odd mackeral.
View Boats Page
Once on the Varne we caught several species of fish, with turbot being outstanding bonus although it must also be noted that we caught some really big mackeral dragging bait over the bank. In total we had at least ten different species of fish, you certainly cannot complain about that for a day's fishing. Thanks Bob, looking forward to the 18th November.
Best Wishes
