    Report on-board Mary Ellen ll

Went out today on a good sea trip out Scarborough, on the Mary Ellen II. Skipper Lee Smith.
Hadn't been out on a charter for a couple of years, after being let down numerous times in the past, but I'm glad I took the bait on a post from Lee last week in a Facebook group

I was alone, but we went out with 7 friendly faces, (6 men and 1 woman!)
Despite a high tide of 5.7m this morning. We had a very succesfull day overall around the rough grounds near Filey.
Biggest of the day was a cod, just over 6lb, which I believe was caught by the youtube famous , Karl (h**ps://m.youtube.com/@karlpage8113)

For a spell. I was nicknamed the Wrasse man. After landing 3 in a row .

Lee was a great help, always helping any snags and tangles and of course helping us to land the fish. The boatman also clearly knew his stuff because we had at least a fish on every drop. It was good to speak to a chap out who was out his first ever boat trip, and was great to see him catch a fantastic pollock, gutted I didn't actually get a pic of his , Karl might have some pics on his channel later.

Despite having a good few different species caught, surprisingly no mackerel about yet , but we don't mind that when the cod, pollock and wrasse are happy to entertain.
I returned a few small codlings, many wrasse and brought one decent wee codling home for the table .

Really happy to get back out, will defo be back up at Scarborough for a days wrecking during the summer with Lee and Mary Ellen II, as I'm positive these guys will get me some more good days fishing .

If anyone has ever wanted to get out and try some sea fishing, you defo won't go wrong with this charter. Give them a shout in Scarborough.

    Tight lines all, thanks Lee

    Report on-board Skylark

Out today with totally different weather to yesterday showers when the customers arrived on the boat. And a fresh south westerly blowing through not really picking the sea up much but a bit splashy in places

Overall everybody caught something to take home which is always a bonus the stamp of fish was alot better to yesterday's catch

Best fish today was a 7lb 3oz Pollock

Today baited feathers seamed to out fish the lures today possibly due to the conditions and stronger tide.

  • 28/05/2025 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

28 May 2025 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

A brilliant trip out today started off with perfect conditions. Not the biggest of fish today but plenty of sport all day and some of the nicest customers we've had in some time.

Fishing was pretty much instant from our first mark with a good amount of codlings and small Pollock.

Over the day we tried all sorts of tackle on the drift with lures having an advantage over bait today which is a very promising sign for summer inshore fishing.

The biggest fish today was only 2 1/2lb but overall all the customers caught a few cod to take home. Aswel as plenty of fish to go back to fight another day.

One surprise today was a few mackerel caught inshore so it shouldn't be to much longer until we're filling strings up soon.

    Overall we have caught:
Codling, Pollock, coalfish, ballen wrasse, pouting, mackerel, and sand eels

Best part of the day was seeing all 3 under 16s we had today all having a go, catching fish and really enjoying the fishing, the wildlife and scenery.

It certainly was a belting day for it and I've got the sun burn to prove it
