    Report on-board Eastern Promise 2

Went out Sunday 6th Jan 2012. And was very foggy. It was first trip aboard the new Boat (See Video), and must say we were not disappointed. Usual 7am Start, and it was cold. Headed out and hit first spot. Where it was slow to start. In fact I had not had a fish by 11.00am. But Others had a few. Then a Move saw us find the fish. And we finished up with betweek 35 and 40 Cod from 3lb to 6lb, at least 15 Skate. Some good size Whiting and a scattering of Doggies. Couple of keeper skate, but rest went back, and we even were putting back the Cod. New Boat is Quick, so less time getting out which means more time fishing. And what a great time it was. Cheers Derek.

  • 12/2012 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Report on-board My Way 2

Extracts from our year review, please find the full report and photographs by copying and pasting the following link into your browswe http://www.goangling.co.uk/review-2012.htm

During the second week in March we had some pretty mixed fortunes with the weather in Holyhead; both sunshine and rain in equal amounts and the winds not quite knowing what they should be doing. Once again, the more settled weather early 2012 fell on spring tides with both days just under 33ft in height. Not a terrible thing, but owing to the big tidal strengths around our area of operation it restricts our movements to inshore work.

We were rewarded each day with a great early season mixed bag, including dogfish, bull huss, coalfish, whiting, codling, and a fair amount of thornbacks making it aboard My Way, all though smallish average size between 3 and 6lb but still first rays for the majority of captors. Surprise catch in the shallow waters was a nice 16lb conger eel.

Further excitement was heard on the deck one trip when some plump coalfish came aboard; a few of the anglers then stopped everything … for sushi. One of the lads had brought along a top quality sushi making kit, rice vegetables, dips, etc. – we simply had to provide the fish. I then watched as in a very professional manner aboard a slightly rocking boat he eagerly prepared a sushi meal.

    **********

With the tides dropping for the following day, we decided that a trip off to Holyhead Deep was called for and then try for the hounds later in the afternoon. Our day started drifting for small wrasse, pollack, codling and coalie for an hour. As the tide dropped we made our way off to a mark offshore, which would see us anchored in around 180ft of water, with the drop off laying the baits around 220ft.

Roy was first into a fish, a nice spurdog just short of double figures; we won’t mention how the skipper knocked it off with the net though J. For the next 3 hours, all 7 anglers were treated to a big fish bonanza and from 200ft of water, they certainly felt it afterwards. Every 5 minutes there was call of net as double figure spurdog were accompanied by double figure bull huss!

    **********

June saw My Way sail with great regularity. I wouldn’t say that the weather has been the best, far from it to be honest. But we managed to work around most of what the wind gods had being throwing at us taking each day as it comes.

This scenario helped out by some great crews, for example where our intended marks have been off to Holyhead Deep and the wind has blown, we have simply loaded up with a selection of rigs and baits including quality fresh peeler crab and enjoyed a species hunt inshore along with some great small shark action inshore.

Fortunately we have seen some very good double figure smoothhounds aboard My Way once again in 2012; sadly only 2 have topped the magical 20lb mark this year.

But with many anglers reaching personal bests averaging 15lb and a few with 18 and 19lb fish it has again been a successful period for us.

  • 01/2013 Fishing Report by Lyle Stantiford on Supanova II (Weymouth, Dorset)

    Jan 2013 by Lyle Stantiford

    Report on-board Supanova II

It was finally nice to get out this weekend to get over the Christmas blues.

What a weekend it turned out to be, phenomenal Whiting fishing with a box full kept each day in the 2-3lb range with the best fish touching 4lb. Hundreds were returned to fight another day. On this Mark we managed a cod each day a nice plump 6lber on Saturday for Chris Corbin and a 20lb cracker on Sunday for Will Everett.

After their fill of whiting on Saturday the lads fancied a Crack at some Blonde Ray. SO we ventured back towards home stopping o one of my deep water Blonde marks after a quiet 20 mins the first Ray was Boated and then a Conger, the first Conger I have seen at this mark ever but down to the dirty water they had ventured off the nearby reef.

5 more Rays were Landed all in double figures, the best falling to Dave Borton with a 19lber. Also to my shock a further 6 Congers were landed and released including the best reef eel I have ever seen. This absolute beauty of 75lb+ landed and returned by Phil Rogers of Bristol.

All in all a fantastic weekends sport.

Who says winter fishing from Weymouth is Dull hey??!!

    Happy New Year,

    Lyle

  • 05/01/2013 Fishing Report by jon old on High Flyer 2 (Great Yarmouth, Norfolk)

5 Jan 2013 by jon old

    Report on-board High Flyer 2

Bringing the reports up to date Jan 5th 2013, being the last trip, our plans of the 12 mile bank were scuppered by fog halfway out so with safety in mind decided to try the banks inbetween South Cross and South Corton Buoy. No good at all for cod, just flatties and small whiting. Peservered most of the day moving twice, still no cod even though decent size marks on the sounder! On seeing 2 porpoises this time of year this weather seems too mild for decent cod, on the way home picked on a mark of mine just off the shore to finish off with plenty of the usual flatties and whiting, dissapointed with no cod, we could always stay and pick up small stuff off Corton but with flat seas it seemed silly not to get offshore apart from the fog! Thanks to the lads ,Steve,Dave,Larry,Adam,James,Neil,Guy,Chalky and Paul, was good banter as usual, and dont forget who caught the first whiting!!!!!!! Jon.

  • 05/01/2013 Fishing Report by Ray Martin on PLAN B (Southend-On-Sea, Essex)

5 Jan 2013 by Ray Martin

    Report on-board PLAN B

Royal Mail Southend's Annual "Ken Wright memoral trophy"- First trip of the new year-(cancelled last year due to weather) this time weather absolutely perfect. Fished a lower river mark as the rumor mill suggested cod were in the area.. the amount of boats in the general area suggested this was not a "secret" mark... We caught dogfish steadily on our large squid baits, but continually missed bites which suggested small fish were in the area.. We scaled down and were rewarded by whiting and large dabs. Action was non stop and when the tide picked up we had to make a decision to either try for cod (worth a lot of points in the comp) or catch the smaller species and try to get enough points to win even if someone caught a cod... I opted for the smaller species and managed to win the comp.. however Barry Patel stuck to large fish or squid baits and managed 2 decent skate .. one more and he would have won.
Everyone on the boat caught a large number of fish and the final tally was well over 100 whiting, 12 good dabs, 15 dog fish, 2 skate and 1 pouting. NO COD... but I know where they are for the next trip.
    Ray
