  • 21/07/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

21 Jul 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Today saw the weather almost on the "perfect" side for a good cruise off shore and as the tides are fairly big at the moment we had a conflab before we sailed!

The lads all agreed that a trip to the "wall" was in order . With the remnants of the Northerly swell left from yesterday and after a 27 mile steam we arrived at 9.0.am and began the hunt.

Fishing was a little slow to begin with over slack but as the tide got moving on the ebb the fish started flying aboard! Again, the clarity is playing a major role in how we are succeeding on the day and the best tactic today again was the baited Hokkai traces.

The shads and artificials are catching but not as well as the bait.

A long steam out there but nearly always worth it !!!

If you fancy a trip to the "wall" yourselves let me know when you are making your enquiries.

Pictured is Lee Taylor from Liverpool with his best cod of the day at 9lb.

Wherever you are fishing may your lines be tight!!!

    Rich

  • 20/07/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

20 Jul 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Plenty of mixed groups just lately on the Shy-Torque.

A split group of lads from Liverpool and Silsden nr Skipton joined us the other day and enjoyed a really good days sport on the rough ground on the 9 mile. Plenty of codling and ling to around the 10lb mark.

Most of the fish being taken on the baited Hokkai traces again today. Hokkai tipped with squid and fresh mackerel doing the job. An indication that the water below isn't as clear as on the surface. Continuing Northerly swells hindering the clarity on the bottom at the moment.

Pictured is Chris Atkinson from Silsden nr Skipton North Yorks with a nice cod of 9lbs.

    Report on-board Supreme

Out today for the first time in a week following some very windy weather so we didn't know what to expect 5hour general fishing trip to ease back into it onboard today were a group from Liverpool.

Anchored up in 50ft water and the mackerel started straight away and stayed with us all trip.
A mix of other species were caught to keep everybody amused including dabs, dogs, whiting, tub gurnard, and a couple of weavers.

Just into the trip one of the lads got a hook in his finger and was very brave :) lol I had a look and decided that I wouldn't be removing it so left him to decide what he wanted to do leave it in until we returned to harbour or he could take it out himself which he opted to do luckily there wasn't much of a barb he did scream a little when he pulled it out pmsl.

Young Jack came good during the trip after feeling a bit under the weather at the start and I'm sure he will sleep well tonight .

NO OTHER SKIPPERS INFO WAS USED IN WRITING THIS REPORT

NO GIMMICKS , NO BULL, JUST RESULTS

Out today with a group of guys today. Started off with nice weather. Went to the first mark and had Cod to 6lb 8oz, Pollack, Mackeral. Then as the weather got worse moved inshore on the smoothound. Fishing was slow at first with a few smoothies being brought in then as slack water approached the wind started picking up. On the turn of the tide a few more smoothies were brought in, aswell as Dabs, Doggies etc. Just as we were about to head in a small4lb Thornback was landed.

    Report on-board Discovery

    Friday 13th July

    Black Horse Fishing Club

Today we had a group of guys from the Black Horse Fishing Club. With the wind forecast to drop we locked out and headed up the Mersey. As we entered the Rock Channel, their was a slight swell. The guys had decided to go offshore. We got to our first mark and started to fish. Mackeral started coming in thick and fast. We moved to another mark and carried on fishing. Even more mackeral and some Pollack were brought aboard. The conditions had got worse instead of getting better, so the guys decided to go for Smoothound and Bass. We made our way back in and dropped the anchor. Whilst most of the guys were baiting up, Shaun had already cast out waiting for his first bite, which seemed to be straight away. The first bite didnt produce but the second cast out and he had hooked into a nice Smoothie. Getting it into the net and bringing it aboard, weighing in at 13lb. After this everybody on the boat seemed to be landing them one after the other. To add to the mix, Dabs, Weavers and Doggies were brought aboard, aswell as more mackeral. The total Smoothie count for the was 36 to 13lb. The weather conditions were not good with a constant driving rain all day that soaked everybody. Shauns brother stuck it out in his shorts and wellies, while everyone else took shelter under the canopy.

Some nice fish brought in by a great group of guys.
