WEST COUNTRY TRIP 20-24 MAY. This was my first experience of Colin,s West Country trip which started with us sailing from Weymouth to our base in Dartmouth picking up some wrecking along the way. With good weather, the following day was ideal for drifting for plaice which saw over 40 fish to the boat. A great bonus is not having to drive long distances after a day,s fishing and the social side with good company is excellent. A good variety of fish were caught with ling to 20lbs and a couple of "firsts" for me. As ever you need to be lucky with the weather but this really is a trip with a difference and to be recommended. Thanks Colin for all your efforts to keep us on fish.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Trevor, I am glad you enjoyed the West Country Trip and hope you book on again next year.

First time out with Colin. I can honestly say, in my option you will not find a harder working skipper. Myself and Julie had a fantastic day out, caught our 1st Ling(s) (good sizes too). It was a bit quieter after lunch, not Colin’s fault it’s just fishing!

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Neil, it was a pleasure to have you and Julie on Flamer IV.Hope to see you both soon.

First time out with Colin on Flamer IV. Myself and Julie found him to be just the best skipper, knowledgable, friendly and extremely helpful. The fishing was good in the morning and slacked off a little after lung. This Colin worked really hard to find us the fish. Cannot recommend enough. Will be booking a trip ASAP. Cheers Colin.

Cracking day out with Colin at anchor on the reefs and banks. Great skipper who pulls out all the stops to give you a good days fishing. Just the right balance of moving between marks: enough to keep things varied but not too much fishing time wasted. The fishing itself was sparse at times, but we managed a few cracking fish, with 3 or 4 specimen spurs and the biggest thornback I've ever seen in the flesh, plus conger, smoothhounds and the obligatory pout and dogs. All in all would definitely recommend the boat: Colin knows his stuff!

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Tim, you were a pleasure to have on the boat and I look forward to seeing you on Flamer IV again soon.

A weekend out with Colin on Flamer 4 once again saw a pb for me with a 14lb pollock. I wouldn't have landed the fish due to my schoolboy error of not seating my reel properly such that as the pollock crash dived my reel detached itself from my rod. With a bit of help from Colin I managed to reattach my reel and finally land the fish. There then followed a bit of friendly banter on my fishing ability. Sunday saw us taking part in a friendly pairs comp and while it was blowy and cold some excellent fish came on board and we had a most enjoyable day. With Colin you know what you are going to get, a skipper doing his best to put you on the fish, friendly fellow anglers, help support and fun

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Russell I am Happy you enjoyed your weekend on Flamer IV.

March 02 and the first opportunity to get out wrecking this year. A biting easterly cold wind didn,t make for comfortable fishing bur once again Coiln mananged to find fish for the crew with pollack to 14 lb and suprise bonus ling to 20lb. Wrecking has been something of a nemisis for me of late but with some "encouragemen" and guidance from Coiln and Pete finally managed to break the spell. Then just add to the moment, Colin produced another of his wife,s fantastic sponge cakes that was so light, if you put down it needed a lead on it!! Another great day in the bag!!

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Trevor a pleasure to have you on Flamer IV as usual and that you enjoyed the cake as well as the fishing.

Thanks Colin for another great days fishing in "The Fish of The Month" final. Though a very cold day the usual banter aboard always makes the atmosphere warm. A interesting days fishing with a smooth hound of 10lb to myself helping towards enough point to win the competition. Congrates to Stephan for his second place. It was great having my son John aboard.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Andy, and well done on your win.Well deserved.

With a bright settled day for the second week running, a steady stream of fish came on board during the morning session, mostly taking light or white lures. Things went a bit quiet after lunch, until Robin Amor started taking fish on a bright pink Reg Gill. Shamelessly copying Robin, I was rewarded with a 10lb pollock on the first drift, followed by a savage take on the second. During a brutal tug of war, the fish dived repeatedly trying to get back into the wreck: more by luck than judgement it eventually came to the boat, and Colin slipped the net under my new PB pollock of 16 lbs. The pollock season seems to be in full swing now, can't wait until next week to see if I can beat that next time!

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Phil it was a pleasure to see you catch your PB Pollack even it was on a gay pink lure.

Usual good day out with Colin. Plenty of hard fighting pollock in the morning session, a bit quieter in the afternoon, with Colin doing his best to find the most productive wrecks. Still ended up with enough fish to struggle to carry back to the car! As one of Colin's regular customers, I must say I found it strange to read in a previous report that someone felt their catch was being taken by someone else- I've been fishing on Flamer more times than I can possibly remember, and I've never seen any disagreement over fish- quite the opposite in fact, people are usually trying to give away their surplus to other anglers to make sure nothing goes to waste! Whether you consider yourself an experienced angler of a complete novice you can always learn something new from Colin, hence the large numer of faces which apperar time after time on board Flamer.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks Phil,I look forward to seeing you again soon as I really enjoy seeing you on Flamer IV.
