2021 TRIPLE WINNER TAKING ALL 3 COMPETITIONS THAT YEAR!!!!
PLUS DOZENS OF OTHER COMPETITION WINS BEFORE THESE DATES!!!!

Whitby's only TWIN ENGINED charter boat. She is Whitby's most popular, powerful and fastest angling boat winning more angling competitions and daily prizes over the last 30 years than any other boat in Whitby.
Sponsored by the top name in sea angling "SHIMANO" Shy Torque III is the best known of all the charter boats in Whitby and probably the North East coast and has a track record second to none.

The boat is fully licensed and insured and has a code of practice "Category 2 " with the RYA, allowing us to travel up to 60 miles. (Please ask to see certificate if required) Only a handful of Whitby charter boats hold this category of license and insurance. If you sail beyond the boats designated area of work, then the insurance for that boat (which covers you as an angler) does become null and void. It's a good idea to check in case of any eventualities!!!

For your best chances of a great days fishing from Whitby the Shy Torque III is your best option by far. If you want to book the boat as a club we do a special rate for teams of 8 or less. Please ensure that you have the full money for the places you have booked (whether it be full boat or individual bookings) as we will have been turning people away on the strength of your booking.

The dates for the competitions here at Whitby for 2024 are listed below.
The Spring competition dates are April 13th to April 28th INC. Big cash prizes!!
The Summer competition dates are June 29th to July 21st July INC Get yourselves a trip booked to have a chance of winning a great cash prize!!!
The late Summer competition dates are August 31st to September 15th INC. You can book any places as from now. 07733 233352 / 01947 601233

When you consider that some of the other charter boats in Whitby are charging on average around £50.00 for a day’s fishing (this includes the slow boats!) then the £55.00 that we charge for individuals for the day is more than worth it. We can give you so much more time fishing than the others!!! Plus with the added advantage of staying completely DRY in wet conditions.

The boat is just under 40ft in length and fitted with the "Islander" style wheelhouse. There is oodles of space per angler (unlike some of the boats in Whitby) as we can fish right around the boat from stem to stern! The "ANGLERS CABIN" also ensures that you can arrive at the fishing areas DRY and arrive back home DRY. There are no other charter boats in Whitby (in our size range) that can offer a full team TOTAL cover like we can.
REMEMBER, if you are paying less than what we charge there WILL be a reason for it!!! Individuals are welcome on the boat. Gift vouchers are available for trips every year and would make an excellent gift / birthday / Xmas present.
The full 2022/23 tide table for Whitby is now available. Please call for details or visit the site.
"We are totally committed in providing an unrivalled service every day we sail"
Shy-Torque III. Going that extra mile (or 10!) for you.

Another good day on Shy torque. Rich was on the ball as usual we fished some wrecks 21 miles off but there were a breeze that made fishing a bit difficult only a few cod were caught so he brought us in to try some rough ground that’s when the fishing got better with some decent sized cod coming in every one on the boat had plenty of fish for the freezer. Big thanks to Rich for a good day. I’m looking forward to the next trip Ivan.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan.

20 May 2024 by Rich Ward

Rob Newcombe and his mates Jimmy, Rob, Shaun and Dave from Nottingham chartered the boat yesterday on their first trip out of Whitby this year.

We played around on a couple of bit of scrap to start the day for a meagre picking of small chuck back fish.

I move the boat out to a few ground marks next and the lads started picking away at the fish there.
Just one or two some drifts and an odd drift with a few more.

Baited rigs were the order of the day again with thin strips of squid on the Hokkai traces doing the best.

The bigger fish were elusive for the lads but at the end of the day they were all very pleased with their tally of 50 fish to keep, along with the juvenile throw backs.

A nice range of species too with Codling, Ling, Haddock, Whiting, Pouting and Wrasse.

A very enjoyable and chilled day on the water with five great blokes.
See you on your next one lads,

    Cheers
    Rich.

19 May 2024 by Rich Ward

Alex Choy and his mates joined us yesterday for their third trip of the year.

The group love to fish the “Wall” if the weather allows it, as they love to target the Norwegian Haddock (Acadian Redfish) on the light tackle.
Luckily for them, the weather fell in their favour so we gave it another go.

Plenty of them for the lads!!

Fergus reckoning on 40+, plus other small bits and bobs.
Leo who fishes with the group was telling me that this particular fish is so expensive in Hong Kong.
    Around £30.00 per kilo!!

We never saw a fish above 4lb but still a fun filled day for Alex and the boys with good Chinese banter all day!

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 18/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

18 May 2024 by Rich Ward

Two day report on the Shy-Torque III.

Thursday didn’t fish very well at all for the guys on the boat in all honesty.

We re-ran our route we took the day before, as we’d had such a great day, but sadly the little buggers weren’t playing for us.
We finished Thursday’s trip off on a little wreck just 2.3 miles from shore and had our best fishing there to be fair.
We did only take 8 Codling from it but considering what we had before this, it was good!!

Yesterday I chose to run back in the direction we’d finished off the day before and wreck hopped for the first couple of hours.

On the first bit of scrap, I went straight into a fish on the shad and two other lads hooked up straight away too.
20 winds off the bottom and a seal grabbed my fish, taking it clean off the hook in one.
10 seconds after this, Graham Soloman’s fish was attacked by the beastie and his came up with just a head and entrails!

    Moving on then!!

The next wreck was just 3/4 mile away to the North.
    First drift, one fish boated.
Second drift, 2 fish on and both pinched by a seal!!
Long story short, the same f*****g seal followed us for 2 hours and killed our morning!

I moved the boat to a completely different sector to get away from it, hoping to find a seal free area and luckily for us we managed to find a few nice fish on a strip of ground with no seal harassment.

The lads plucked away nicely for a couple of hours and ended up with some nice Codling to just under 9lb and Ling to just over 10lb.
Around 30 fish from that ground making for an enjoyable bit of fishing to save the day.

A great mixed group of lads who were pleased with the day in the end.
    See you again soon lads.

    Cheers for now,
    Rich

  • 15/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

15 May 2024 by Rich Ward

    15.05.24.

Small tides, a flat calm sea and a good bunch of lads on board.
Surely the perfect recipe for a perfect day on the water?

We sailed at the usual time of 7.0.am yesterday and decided to head to the 5 mile area to start on a couple of bits of scrap, basically to see if there had been any change in the fishing from last time we tried there.

The first few drifts saw both Codling and Ling coming on board steadily which was great!
All the fish were coming up on the baited rigs. Hokkais and baited muppets tipped with squid doing the job.

I was determined to get them on the Shads but sadly to no avail.
A few tugs but nothing definite.
I was guessing that the water was still too murky there.

We moved just 1.5 miles down to the South next and tried a tiny piece of wreckage which I have, that is rarely fished.

I persevered with the Shad and bingo, they were taking fair and square on that one.
This got me thinking that maybe there was patchy bloom in the water.

When we’d picked that bit clean, we moved out over slack water to try some strips of ground and it was alive!

Feed fish all over the grounds and plenty of fish on the feed too!

I reckon that for the last 20 or so drifts over a small ledge, I personally managed at least 1 Cod each go on the Shad! Brilliant sport.

Regular angler on the Shy-Torque III Chris Siddle, showed his skills off to everyone today and managed to fill his box (6 stone) to the brim. He took all his fish on the baited rigs.
Chris also took the best 2 fish on board too
A couple of lovely chunky Cod around the 8 lb mark.

It has to be the best day on the inshore marks for us this year with a tally of close on 80 fish boated.
Plenty to keep Fergus entertained with his sharp knife!

The Cod are in and feeding lads!!

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 10/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

10 May 2024 by Rich Ward

Yesterday’s trip had been advertised as a “Wall trip”as the tides were still running in the Spring range at 5.5m.
We really need a full boat of 8 anglers to cover the fuel costs with runs of those distances.
We only managed to sail with just the 6 lads as 2 others had dropped out.
The remaining lads agreed to chip in a little extra so we could still do the run.

The fish were a little elusive to start off, but we soon found where they were hiding and the lads were clicking them every drift after 20 minutes or so.

As the ebb started to run, the devils SE wind started too which made the fishing a little more challenging.
The drift kept creeping up and by high water we were running at 2 knots.
A bit quick really but we were still knocking the odd fish out so we stuck it out till the end.

A surprise visit by a Porbeagle too yesterday which was a bit of a nuisance for half an hour as it kept pinching the fish on the way up!!

A nice show of some 50-60 fish between the 6 lads at the end of the day, with a good number of juvenile throw backs too.

Young Fergus and myself landing around 20 between us which was great because my Dad had said he’d like a few fillets.

Fergus began the filleting as soon as we got underway for home and had the lot done and the boat washed down before we landed. Good lad!

The shads worked great yesterday for us and the baited rigs also caught.
Squid and frozen Mackerel doing the business.

No big fish to shout about again but a great days sport.
Thanks to Craig, Tim, Pete, Mark, Johnny and Steve for sailing with us and we’ll see you all again soon.
    Cheers
    Rich.
