    Report on-board Bite Adventures

got treated to a birthday sharking trip from my kids last week so made the journey down to penzance on a very wet friday morning, made really good time and reached the harbour for 7am. Parked in the train station car park as you can no longer park on the quay, at only just over £3 all day its not a biggie, just remember the ticket machines are located right in front of the train station entrance if you dont want to spend 10 minutes looking like an idiot while you look for one. Went and sampled a perfectly cooked fry up at the cafe opposite the car park, then made my way to the boat looking forward to a day afloat with the cornish fish magnet.....even the rain had stopped and the sun was threatening to make an appearance......
after a short steam dropped down some feathers for some fresh bait, and one of the lads brought up a Bonito.....this was quickly followed by another bonito for myself, along with some nice mackerel......so wasn't long before we steamed off to the sharking grounds........but despite perfect conditions the sharks didnt want to play, though we did manage to land 2 and i had a little tussle with one before it spat my bait......
Now sharking is a waiting game so spent this time bottom fishing where whiting and my first ever megrim were taken on strips of fresh mackerel fillet......i also took along my LRF rod and used a 5g spinner to have some fun with the mackerel until the i noticed a long slender shape chasing one which announced the arrival of the gars so quickly switched from a spinner to a float, and if you have never had a gar on very light tackle you really are missing out, they gave a great scrap, jumping out of the water and tail walking, my only regret was not catching any of this on film......and chippy assured me the gars get even bigger in the next month or so.....but before long the day was over and we headed back into port. I hadn't landed a shark but was a very happy man......
