Steve had a nice mixed bag aboard Galloper the other day. Hounds, roker and bass not to mention the occasional dogfish as well! He was really hoping for that bass and was relieved when this one hit the net after loosing one on the previous cast! There's certainly plenty of life out there at the moment and things look promising for the summer ahead.

With some lovely weather it was nice to see a mixed bag including hounds, bass, a codling, thornback, whiting dogfish and dabs the other day. This time of year is usually pretty good for variety. Both the weather and the fishing should continue to improve over the coming weeks too. Even when the weather doesn't play ball we have some great sheltered marks that are producing good fish as well.

The lads from Suffolk police had another busy day aboard the Galloper with a great mixed bag of rays, smooth hounds and bass between the abundant dogfish and whiting. Between 7 anglers they had around 600 fish! I have spaces for individuals and boat bookings for inshore and offshore trips over the coming weeks.

The smooth hounds are improving in numbers week by week now. We had some great fun on a breezy trip the other day. There were no giants but several 5-9lb fish as well as hoards of whiting, dogfish and a few rays. Andy was top rod with 13 hounds and 3 rays to himself which can't be sniffed at let alone on a windy day.

I thought I'd do a little reminder of last year's plaice fishing. We had a couple of sessions on them in late spring and early summer. The stamp wasn't huge but the numbers were there and probably the best I've seen for over 15 years. There were plenty of double shots of plaice and various other species mixed in too. We tried to combine it with some bass fishing at one end of the day or the other as well. It's been great to see a nice mix of fish coming out on our general trips despite the weather. There have been some nice hounds, bass and rays showing as well as the usual dogs, whiting and other bits and bobs. There's no shortage of bites to keep the rods going and thankfully we can still get out to our many sheltered marks in this weather. Thankfully the fishing has been pretty good inshore on some of the windy days lately. The lads saw some decent rays amongst the whiting and dogfish along with some decent bass for the time of year and so close in. It's good to know that we can put you on some quality fish in most conditions now. There have been bass on most trips lately and as of today you can keep two per angler per day until the end of December (should you be lucky enough to catch them).

There's been a few more hounds and bass showing closer in over the last few trips. The lads from Suffolk police had the most hounds lately with 14 for the day though nothing huge. The bass are increasing in numbers too and there are some nice rays coming out too. Of course if you are really lucky then you could catch a whiting or dogfish!
Still a few spaces over the Easter weekend if you want to join us and plenty more space over the coming weeks.

Just a little reminder of what the offshore trips can produce from brightlingsea in the spring. These pictures are some of last year's fish but this year's trips are in full swing and I will report on those at the end of the season as usual so it's no good waiting for reports before booking. As well as spurs we can catch smooth hounds, thornback ray, bass, cod and even things like blonde rays on these trips. All sorts of species can show which keeps it interesting between the doggies and whiting. Our best day last year was 64 spurs and lots around the 20lb mark. I offer full boat bookings or individual spaces and have availability both offshore and on general trips in the coming weeks so please get in touch. No other local boats can offer the same track record on these trips as I can.

Mark and the lads had some nice bass and small smooth hounds the other day in between loads of dogfish, whiting and pouting. It was nice to see Adam getting a pb bass on some light tackle. He worked hard for that fish in a bit of rain.
Still some spaces remaining for Sundays trip and next week.
