So we finally found a weather window to get out to the local reefs. Plenty of action on the lures. Using a mix of soft plastics and SPJ the team captured in excess of 150 pollack to around 6lb. No monsters but great sport on light gear.

In addition we had, launce, coalfish, pouting, cuckcoo wrasse, and a greater weever. Final species total was 7.

Now awaiting the next weather window to get out again :)

  • 15/08/2023 Fishing Report by Luke Evans on Odyssey (Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire)

15 Aug 2023 by Luke Evans

    Report on-board Odyssey

On Tuesday 15th August the Odyssey team with 2 willing anglers on board took a recce trip out to the Celtic deeps in search of tuna. The signs were promising as previous shark trips showed that there were some around.

1 hour into trolling spreader bars we had our first run of the day. After emptying over 300yards of line on its first run and a few others also Julian soon had it to the boat and the fish was tagged, revived and released to fight another day.

An hour later we had another screaming run with a tuna but sadly we suffered a hook drop and it was the case of the “the one that got away”. We did a bit od drifting with dead baits but no tuna. We did manage a bonus 100lb blue shark so a nice consolation prize!

A great day out and hopefully the numbers now increase as the tuna season is wales tends to kick off from September onwards.

If you fancy a crack at a welsh tuna on a fully licensed CHaRT Cymru charter boat get in touch

  • 04/06/2023 Fishing Report by Luke Evans on Odyssey (Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire)

4 Jun 2023 by Luke Evans

    Report on-board Odyssey

Odyssey took her first trip of 2023 out to the Celtic Deeps on 3/6/23. It’s still quite early in the season. Given the nasty Easterly wind it made for tricky conditions.

After a quiet morning and a change a location to get our drift back into an area that delivered the goods lass year we had our first run of the day. A very healthy fish of approx 180lb was landed after a 15 min scrap. It was the anglers first time fishing for porgies so I was glad to find him a lovely fish to open his account with!

Next run was a few clicks on the ratchet. This went on for 5 mins but the skipper managed to work his magic to get the fish to take the bait. After a 20 min battle and thinking that I had actually hooked a nuclear submarine we got first sight of her. She looked us in the eye and promptly took all the line back… However after giving me the runaround, doing her best to swim under her the boat she was soon alongside the boat. A right lunp at approx 300lb she was released and shot off like a rocket and skipper had to have a sit down to recover!

Not long after we had another run and it was fish on again. Another prime porbeagle of about 160lb was soon boat side to be released.

We had a group of 3 blue sharks swimming in the slick off the back of the boat but sadly no takes. Hopefully they will increase in numbers over the next few weeks. An excellent start to the season hopefully it continues along with some settled weather.

  • 01/2023 Fishing Report by Stuart Denman on Ebony May (Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire)

    Jan 2023 by Stuart Denman

    Report on-board Ebony May

2022 was another awesome season for the Ebony May. We started catching our first large numbers of Tope from mid May right through to the beginning of July, this coinciding with the arrival of the fist mackerel. Average Tope weighing 35-40lbs with the occasional 45-50lb. June/July were excellent months for Bass and pollack mostly fish 3/4lb. July /August, we did a number of 4hr trips targeting bottom species such as Thornback Ray, Smooth hound, Huss, Bream, Spotted Ray, squid, Bass and Tope. September/October once again proved to be excellent months for bass fishing. Some great sport fishing with lures and live bait. A lot bigger fish being caught, and our largest for those months being 9lb. In all, another excellent season with plenty of fun and good fishing. Really looking forward to 2023!!

    Oct 2021 by Stuart Denman

    Report on-board Ebony May

2021 was probably one of our best seasons to date ,good numbers of Bass ,Tope and Pollack were caught throughout the year. The Tope arrived early in the middle of April and remained right through until September. The fish averaged 35 to 45lb, although the largest fish we caught was a fish of 60lb.It should be noted that the British shore Tope record was broken this year with a Tope of 82lb .This fish was caught not far from our location in Pembrokeshire. The mackerel arrived in May followed shortly after by the Bass shoals ,plenty of fish being caught on both lures and live baits .The Bass remained right through until October with some good size fish between 5 to 8lb being caught .The Pollack fishing was also excellent ,we were mainly fishing offshore during May/June targeting wrecks and Lundy area with plenty of fish 3 to 5lb mark, with the occasional Coalfish and Cod being landed. In addition to Tope ,Bass and Pollack we also caught other species such as Wray ,Huss ,Smooth hounds .Sharks , Bream and Wrasse .

    Report on-board Ebony May

2020 what a year ,with the Corona virus pandemic and government lockdown restrictions we were unable to operate our business until the end of June ,and then with strict social distancing ,hand sanitizing and PPE .With these measures in place together with vast deck space on the Ebony May we were able to operate successfully and safely up until the second week in October when we were put back into lockdown. We also caught good numbers of bottom species such as Thornback ray,Spotted ray ,Bullhuss , Bream ,Wrasse ,Triger Fish,Turbot ,dabs and Conger. We are really excited and looking forward to the new season. seeing customers both old and new 2021 We will continue to strictly adhere to all government guidelines .Tight lines Stuart(Skipper).
