As the year draws to a close and the last of the better bass move off into deeper water we turn our focus to cod, as a few have been reported from piers and beaches on the North Essex coast and in the nets of the commercials and we have been anticipating a rise in numbers, but in the mean time, thornback rays, whiting, lesser spotted dogfish and dabs are the primary species that have kept rods twitching and bending as remember you can only catch what's swimming under the boat. Even so we have enjoyed some great days out with awesome weather for this time of year and some brilliant crews as a good laugh is always guaranteed onboard. Usually a wager is laid which leads to a bit of friendly competition and definitely adds to the banter on the day.
I still have limited availability over the up to and over the Christmas period so check out the BRAVEHEARTII schedule calendar for availability and pricing. I look forward to welcoming you aboard.
    Many thanks And tight lines

    Nov 2023 by phillip browning

The last month or so has seen some excellent fishing aboard BRAVEHEARTII and as the water temperature remained high the smoothounds hung around a bit longer than usual, as well as inshore bass. From early/mid September onwards the bass shoal up and fatten up before moving off for the winter and when the weather allowed we had some excellent days fishing on the offshore banks for these chunky autumn fish. One session saw an angler catching 2x 8lb + bass almost back to back the second of which tangled with my line that i cut off in a second because i knew it was a good fish even before i saw it and didn't want the angler to lose it. He caught these lovely fish and others in the 4-5lb range using the boats hire tackle and outfished everyone as is often the case with the hire equipment as these are set up right. As the whiting shoals have moved inshore we have started fishing for cod and hope to see the first arrivals soon but in the meantime, whiting, lsd's, dabs and thornback rays make up the bulk of the catches.
If you would like to book the boat or space aboard BRAVEHEARTII please call on ☎️ 07970 728707
i am also taking bookings for the whole boat for next year no deposits required at this stage so be sure to get booked fast to avoid disappointment
The whole boat is £360 for 10hr up to 6 anglers and £270 for 5hrs, frozen bait included and hire tackle available.....I will take 7 anglers for a small additional charge for the extra angler ( please enquire) i will also be targeting stingrays in August as we had some very successful sessions targeting these amazing fish.

The fishing this last month has been exceptional as traditionally and historically August can be very hit and miss with water temperature peaking towards the end of the month and prolonged high pressure systems, all marine life can become very lethargic punctuated with brief spells of activity. This August was completely different and everything seemed to be on the feed on all but the smallest tides. Weed has been a terrible problem for anglers this year but unfortunately for the best part the fish were where the weed was and anglers had to fish through it frequently reeling in and clearing line and bait of the dreaded stuff but those who persevered had good results.
The month of August has been very good for stingrays as this is the month of you want to add these to your species list. We boated 14 and lost another 5 big fish due to Anglers tackle failure or angler panic, remember its not a race its a marathon with these powerful fish.
There are still one or two good tope around for anglers that want to persevere for them. As we move into autumn i look forward to bass fishing on the sandbanks of the outer Thames estuary where they shoal and fatten up before moving off for the winter.
More than happy to answer any queries

After a windy weekend we were blessed with 3 days of settled weather that allowed us to get out amongst the fish. We had our 3rd stingray in 3 weeks yesterday with a 4th 10 minutes later lost at the net estimated to be 25lb + both caught by Terry Top Rod . We have seen plenty of species on BRAVEHEARTII this last few days, including, Stingray , Smoothound, Bass, Dover Sole, Thornback Ray, Mackerel, Scad, Dab, Eel, Pouting, whiting and the good ol lesser spotted dog fish.
The best Smoothound was on Tuesday with a spent 17lb female, easily a 20+ if it wasn't pupped out so still some good fish around to pull your string and don't they hang on!
When weather confined, our local trips have been really relaxing, with some nice fish over the rails these are good fun trips usually around half an hour steam from port and are really popular with family's and anglers who want to sneak 5 hrs fishing in after work etc .
The diary is solid this month but still some boat availability in September . Any queries, don't hesitate to call ☎️07970 728707 or DM

Tight lines to all and see you out there

A quick report and a few random pics of what's been happening on Braveheart II this last month
Despite well over a month of relentless stiff north easterly winds the fish were definitely on the feed most trips see good numbers and size over the rails . The beginning of the month saw the crouch open boat comp which had a great turnout of 50 + boats and we were blessed with a perfect weather window well done to all the boats and anglers that took the time out to enter and mark and fils tackle for the organisation, let's hope it goes from strength to strength...Braveheart II came in joint 3rd place in both categories... Longest Bass and Longest Smoothound ! (We had the second Longest Hound last year) i couldn't have tried harder for the boys and was happy we had some really good fish onboard that day and plenty of em finally the wind began to veer round to the south and south west, but the sudden rise in air pressure and sea temperature eased the throttle back slightly for a few trips but this last week or so the fish have been on the feed big time and a few days ago saw 5 hounds on at the same time...4 of which were doubles! Absolute carnage lol unfortunately this weekend and the early part of next week sees the return wind, predominately from the west. A few days off and i can't wait to get back out there again

    Tight lines everyone
    Thanks to all my customers

    Feb 2023 by phillip browning

As we move towards the spring of 2023, it's that time of year again that BRAVEHEARTII is lifted from her mooring and into the yard for a few short weeks to prepare for the season ahead which includes checking running gear, replacing anodes, the fabrication and fitting of a new stainless bench seat etc etc. A thorough clean and polish and relaunch ready for the season ahead. On reflection 2022 was a great year weather wise and fishing ,and i had the pleasure of fishing with many new faces, from total novice to seasoned pro's as stated previously the thornback ray numbers were down on previous years but were still around in enough numbers to keep the anglers happy. The bass fishing fishing seems to keep improving on and around the sandbanks of the river crouch and the Thames estuary with better average sizes. Smoothound fishing has always been my passion and excitement especially in shallow water and we have had some clonkers this year that rip lines from the reels at a tremendous rate of knots! Catching high doubles in 7ft of water is about as exhilarating as it gets and we lost over a hundred yards of line to a fish last year that eventually broke free after a 20 minute battle. The shorter localised trips have proved successful will families, novices and experienced Anglers alike and at times the fishing has been amazing and not forgetting species, like sole, flounder ,eels, dabs and juvenile tope! I will still be offering these trips at £260 for the whole boat for up to 6 Anglers 5-6 hours and the same for 5-6 hour evening trips
Our regular trips are 10 hours and details can be found on our website braveheartcharters.com
I look forward to 2023 and welcoming back all last years anglers and plenty of new faces too!
    Tight lines

the movement inshore of the summer species is well underway , and the fishing for the most part has been very good and the weather for the most part has been settling down. The later part of April, we had the influx of smoothounds in good numbers and the average size has been exceptional. The good ol reliable thornback ray numbers have been down on previous years, largely to do with commercial pressure but the numbers are still good. Bass fishing has been a bit late to kick off this year but in recent weeks there are signs that we are in for a very good year ,and just pray that we get lots of settled weather. Thanks to all the Anglers and crews that have booked with me so far this year and it gives me great satisfaction and pleasure to give everyone a good day .
This year I have started incorporating family trips into my charters especially for dad's mums, grandads etc who would like to give their kids/grandkids an enjoyable day out with a fishing experience . These trips are usually 5 or 6 hours in the sheltered waters of the river crouch at a cost of 260 for up to 7 anglers and can be very productive and give the kids a day they will never forget!

See you all on board soon
    Phil
