    APRIL -
With some fantastic weather and some not so good to finish the month off saw us getting a variety of trips out through the month with some brilliant results from numorous good sized Rays, Spurdog, Tope, Bullhuss, Codling and Pollack with a few PB's thrown in.

The last few days of april has seen Northeasterly winds up to 30mph with gusts over 45mph.

    April 29th,
With NE 14-20knott winds the days fishing was to be shellterd around the south side of the island around south stack and as far as Rhosneiger with main targets to be Pollack, Colies, Codling, Wrasse and some possible Mackeral off the many inshore reefs and within 2 hours of drifting every target was acounted for with the edition of some beautifully marked Cukoo and Corkwing wrasse.
With the wind picking up as the day went on the plan chaged from targetting the many species of rays from the many banks off Abberfraw to ' trying ' to shellter from the wind under Trearddur bay.
As soon as the anchor had hit the bottom we had fish comming over the gunnels, With plenty of the usual Dogies, Dabs, Codling, Whitting, Small Huss and a couple larger but not qutie touching the double figure mark, After a couple of hours and a nice few bowls of Hotpot we decided to try a few more drifts over the reefs on the way home.
With some lovely Wrasse being caught and a few Pollack the last drop of the day was upon us once again and not to be dissapointment for a regular Dave who caught a nice codling just over 5lb mark.

    April 30th
NE/E 20-30mph and gusts to 40mph threw out the plans for Offshore Tope fishing but with the crew that booked being another regular party they decided to try there look with 8 hours under the headland at Church bay, With a bit of a bumpy ride to get there we found shelter with flat calm sea's, loads of bait, plenty of food and plenty of fish to keep us busy all through the day.
With the majority of fish being Dogs, Dabs, Huss and Codling with Pollack, Coalies and Plaice coming up every so often, After the 7 hours of fishing we had almost a dozen or so Codling around the 3-4lb and once again the last drop of the day producing a lovely 2lb 7oz plaice ( pictured ).
With the wind behind us we set on our way back to holyhead only to be met by the challange of gettin back onto the marina with 40knots of wind pushing us off, Luckily our good friend Steve off a local pleasure fishing the Louise Clare was on hand to get a rope on for us ( Many Thanks Steve).

Sunday 1st was cancelled with it being a fishing club only wanting to fish the famous Holyhead Deeps but as i was hopeing to have a day off it was interupted by a very busy day for many of the lifeboats around the island especially with it being a bank holiday Trearddur bay accounted for 4 of the incedents which kept me busy for most of the day.

Sun, Sea, Fish and Wind another lovely weekend off the north Wales coastline.

    Easter 2011,

Starting from April 16-23 and spring tides most days,
Fishing has improved dramatically over the 10 trips of easter with number and quality of fish improving.
The reefs have seen a few slightly bigger fish with a couple of pollack up to 5-6lb and a lovely cod of 6lb 10oz.
All the slack waters have been fished at anchor targeting inshore huss and codling with great results.
With 51 bull huss into double figures and many smaller, and a lost count in numbers of codling there has been many smiles aboard the boat this past week.
A few more fish are turning up with some beautifuly marked male cukoo wrasse and the first gurnards of the year with 2 reds.

Due to the size of the tides it has made it allmost impossible to get out to fish Holyhead deeps but with neep tides this weekends we are looking forward to getting back into the superb Tope action.

    Tight Lines Guys!

    Saturday 16th April,

Saturday saw the first 6 mackeral caught off the north side of Anglesey
The reefs are producing plenty of Pollack, Codling, Ballans, Cuckoes and Colies all between the 1-4lb mark with a couple of Codling hitting the 5-6lb mark.
Fishing at anchor inshore is producing plenty of Dogies, Codling, Dabs, Huss, Whiting and a couple plaice.

    Sunday 17th April,

The reefs were a little harder on sunday but the quality of fish was a bit better with a fair amount of Coalies and Pollack around the 3lb mark but with no Mackeral cauht they are still hit and miss.
Anchor way the same as saturday plenty of fish caught.

    Monday 18th April,

Had a 4 hour trip which was to fish over the slack water, plenty of Dogies, Codling, Dabs with a couple of Huss and Plaice also the first Smoothound of the year at 5lb hopefully a good thing and fingeres crossed the big Hounds turn up like recent years.

Plenty of mid-week dates availble with special rates available
Get you trips book for the May Smouthound run and our mid-week Holyhead Deeps to try your luck with some fantastic sport for Tope, Spurdog, Huss and Rays.

Tight lines for everyone fishing in this fantastic weather :D

10 Apr 2011 by Aaron Smith

Weekend of the 9/10th of April.
Sun, Sea and lots of fish, The Saturday we had a full boat of lads wanting to catch as much fish as possible and to be able to relax in the sun at the same time.
Started with a few drifts around South stacks with plenty of Pollack, Wrasse, Coalies and Codling up to around 4lb coming aboard on feathers and a few Warsse rigs, After a couple of hours drifting we steamed round to Trearddur Bay to anchor up for the slack with the decision made to try maen piscar, within lines going down they were already coming up with Pollack, Coiles and codling before hitting the bottom so we dicided to hang around for the rest of the day to try a few big baits later on in the day to try out luck with a few Huss which was the right idea with well into double figure amounts of Bull Huss coming up and a few ling around 4-5lb.
We ended the day with 19 Huss, 32 Codling to 4lb 10oz, Ling, Pollack, Pouting, Coalie, Warsse, Dogfish, Whitting and a few Dabs which totalled just over 200 fish.

    Sunday 10th,
One thing in mind for the day HOLYHEAD DEEPS, which saw us leaving at 7 ready to head straight off for the 10am low water, Upon arriving Dogies were hitting the big baits instanly but soon as the tide slackend the fishing started to become mental with every drop producing either Huss, Spurdog or Tope the action was none stop for 3 hours (so busy took an hour to make a brew !) after the tide had picked up we had a couple of hours fishing left but with the guys a bit tired after all the hard battles the thought was a few leisurely drifts on the inshore reefs would be the best way to carm the day down but yet again once arriving at the reefs only produced strings of fish instead of the calm fishing we hoped, after over a hundread fish coiming up we had a 10 minute break which was kindly interupted by a hug pod of Dolphins jumping across my bow as i was heading to another reef so a few great picture opportunities for the lads, after a few more pollack off the last reef we called the day to an end with the sun still shinning and pictures to look back at one of the best days for early April we have ever had !

No Mackerel as yet but have heard of reports about them only 10 miles away :D
Fishing is brilliant at the moment with still pleanty to look forward to.
Plenty of dates availble for 4/6/8hour trips for the smothound run starting in the middle of May running through till June/July, Prices availble to include crab for bait.
So get booking and Tight Lines Once Again!

30 Mar 2011 by Aaron Smith

MARCH - with 11 trips including 6 offshore trips in march between our 2 boats we have seen some good fishing and not so good fishing ( when people bring chub for bait ! ).
Over the last couple of years the number of rays coming to the boat has been an improvement on recent years and with 2011 well on its way it is looking to be yet again a spectacular year, with anglers coming out with us and working for CEFAS targeting fish to tag we have seen 41 rays in our 11 trips all returned to fight another day with 1 blonde ray at 13lb from Holyhead Deeps and the rest being thornbacks with a spectacular PB for me with a 21.6lb thorny thrown in from one of our most northern marks we fish.

March 25th-29th we had one of our boats working for CEFAS tagging Spurdog to try and find out what they get up to and source any new information to help protect this fantastic fish. We covered nearly 150miles and succesfully tagged around 20 spurdog, with all being returned alive, hopefully one day these will feed information back to CEFAS.

Summer is almost upon us now with the mackeral expected in the next 2-3 weeks and the inshore reefs are producing better fishing everytime they are visited.

There are still a few dates available to fish the almost famous Holyhead Deeps, and still a few tides left for us to get further down the coast then any other boat off Holyhead, to try and beat the boat record of 48 rays and 5 turbot in one session.
There are two tides left for the fun 10hr boat match out with Aaron on Bad ladz to try catch as many species as possible in one day.

Get booking and tight lines for all you anglers our there !!!!!

I do not know whether you have seen in the news that the Goverment is
    >> trying to close down and get rid of over half of the Coastguard
    >> stations and staff around the country.
    >>
    >> Basically at night time there will be two stations open, 1 in Aberdeen
    >> and 1 in Southampton and of course Dover who will primarily be working
    >> on the Channel Navigation Information System.
    >> They are also plans to get rid of over 200 full time operations room
    >> staff and
    >> all the local knowledge that they possess.
    >> There are also to be day stations
    >> working nine to five in Swansea, Humber, Falmouth, Liverpool or
    >> Belfast,
    >> Shetland or Stornoway. All the others at Milford Haven, Brixham,
    >> Holyhead,
    >> Clyde,Forth, Solent, Yarmouth and Thames are to close.
    >>
    >> We as Coastguards are extremely worried about this for a number of
    >> reasons:
    >>
    >> 1. How is somebody in Aberdeen going to know where the person on the
    >> beach in Wales is, especially if the person cannot spell the name of
    >> the beach. This analogy also covers loads of places around the country
    >> where the place name is the same as somewhere else. I heard the other
    >> day (in a Parlimentary debate, where the MP's across all parties are
    > up
    >> in
    >> arms), a place name in Scotland that occurs in five different areas of
    >> Scotland.
    >>
    >> 2. The MCA state that they are going to get busier, yet they think
    > they
    >> can cope
    >> with half of the staff.
    >>
    >> 3. One of my main concerns (as fishing is close to my heart) is for
    > the
    >> anglers using our shores, boats etc. If God forbid somebody fell into
    >> the sea off a rock or boat, the 999 call would go through to
    >> Southampton. They would then have to work out where the call
    >> came from, then start looking through databases to find the right
    >> lifeboat and the right rescue teams to send, by this time I fear it
    >> would be to late.
    >>
    >> Currently, the call is directed to the closest station and the
    >> operations staff's local knowledge kicks in and the boat and team are
    >> dispatched immediately. They would know that rescue team A (that is
    >> nearer) is no good because it is market day, so it would be quicker to
    >> send team B. This is the knowledge that is going to be lost.
    >>
    >> The MCA have written a consultation document that implies a radical
    >> change to the way the service is delivered is the only possible way in
    >> which to bring the Coastguard into the present. They then go on to
    >> offer the opportunity to comment on the proposals - but insist upon
    >> adequate evidence being presented to support the claims of the
    >> respondent.
    >>
    >> However, the document provided by the MCA itself appears to be lacking
    >> in supplying the salient details to back up the assertions made. For
    >> example, it suggests that having two large Coastguard stations
    > covering
    >> the UK at night would be more resilient than the current number. This
    >> would seem to ignore the fact that one station failure would cause a
    >> 50% decrease in capacity to deal with incidents. Things may be
    > quieter
    >> at night, but that statistic ignores the fact that a major incident
    > (or
    >> two) could happen at any time. It is a simplistic and flawed way to
    >> measure workload.can respond to.
    >>
    >> Our union the PCS has developed a letter for people to send
    >> electronically to their MP. All people have to do is fill in their
    >> name, email, and address, then press submit and it is automatically
    >> sent to their MP, so no letter writing or posting is necessary and
    > they
    >> will get a reply from their MP.
    >> The link to the page is http://www.pcs.org.uk/sos
    >>
    >> There is also a Facebook page (that is really to save Holyhead
    >> Coastguard, but the link to the PCS is on the info page)

23 Jul 2010 by Aaron Smith

Just a quick one to show how the fishing is doing, went 6 lads out yesterday and accompanied with nice weather and small tides allowed us to steam off to the famous Holyhead Deeps, with mixed thoughts from a month back al fingers were crossed.
Arrived to anchor up for slack at 3 with the sun shineing bright, all rigs whent down including flowing traces for tope and huss aswell as feathers to try find some of the big whitting that lurk in deeper water too my home made spurdog rig and within 5 minutes of the baits hitting the bites started and with all the feathers destroyed by fish within seconds and everyone on the flowing traces and spurdog rigs hauling fish in it was obvious what rigs were needed.
The action did not stop for one minute even finding the fish nearly a hundred feet up from the bottom but just over 2 hours later the tide was nearly unfishable and being time to be heading in we called lines up and had a quick talk to calculate the amount of fish we had, which were - nealry 80 spurdogs, 25 huss and 6 tope including some lovely whitting and amazing lee enough not a single dogfish the days we always with for haha !!!!

Fishing over the last couple of weeks has been up and down with the reefs producing plenty of codling and wrasse but very little else, Anchor has been exceptional on days producing up to 58 huss on our best day and plenty of rays with a bonus nice cukoo ray and a big mix bag of species incuding tope and smoothound with the count nearing 35 species for the year.

22 May 2010 by Aaron Smith

Had some amazing weather over this last weekend and for a group of 20 lads on Saturday down on both our boats for a stag doe it was fantastic, with the guys wanting fish for the bbq in the evening we dicided to stay fishing the reefs all day and being a competition between each boat we both had our game plans.
Fishing was fantastic with majority of the fish being Coalies, Pollack, Codling and Mackeral with a few Wrasse, Whittings and Dogies thrown in, by the end of the day the score boreds were totalled up and with over 400 fish on one boat and just 150 on the other it was oviouse which boat was on top and yet again it was Bad Ladz skippered by Aaron.
On sunday the plan was to try the reefs for a couple of hours then back to Holyhead Bay later on for the smoothound but on arrival of Bold Angling Club a few were asking about the tope fishing at the moment which has been not to bad so we dicided to play it by ear and see how the fishing went on the reefs, With a fair amount of the usual Pollack, Colies and Codling coming to the boat we thought we would try for some mackeral as the day before we bagged up but was today going to be as easy, NOPE!! we tryed 3 marks over a 5 mile strech and not a single one so there still hit and miss at the moment so we had a chat and the plan was to try for some tope off-shore after a 45minute steam we anchore in 50m of water with all big baits on the bottom, it was a little slow to start but after 20mins or sooo the bites started with the first fish on the boat being a nice Spurdog of 16lb and the fish keept coming with plenty of Bull Huss to 14lb and two Tope to the boat at 25lb and one a bit smaller, we finished a little early at anochor so we could have a few drifts on a couple of reefs on the way back with a plan to try get a few more species on the boat but it was not to be with just the usual Pollack, Colies, Codling and Wrasse coming up and then it was time to head back with the day of 13 species.
Sunday Nite i had a 5hour trip with general fishing on the menu but with 60 crab on the boat we had to try our luck for a smoothound but with little tide and a slight breeze spinning the boat at anchor it was hard work but we heard the ratchet on a reel at the back of the boat wizzing away so it was a mad dash to the back too strike into the fish and then hell broke loose with it going mad swimming all around the boat and taking 4 other lines with it but after a 15 minute fight a lovely starry smoothound of 15lb broke the surface and straight into the net, weighed, pictures and returned as soon as posible and with the next cuople of hours just producing Codling and Whtting it was time to head back in.
FIshing so far -------- Species count is to 31 for the year with every trip exceding the last and the smoothound in the bay on light tackle shows some fantastic sport.
