Another good mixed day starting on many of great reefs holyhead has to offer, Wrasse was a target for the morning session which seemed to go down well with a few new species die the lads on board especially the beautiful male Cuckoo Wrasse! Other catches on the reefs included plenty of Pollack and Coalies to 3lb along with the odd Codling and lonesome single mackeral!
Once the tide started to ease we called lines in, Boat put up to speed and wreck selected, one that I hasn't fished for a few years so eager to say the least!
8 sausage and egg sandwiches later and it was time for the first drift, good speed 2.1kts......Fish on!! What every skipper likes to hear, 5 fish to be exact to the first drift and so it continued for the following hour best fish going to 7lb and average 4lb not whoppers but great sport nevertheless!
Once the tide had eased further time soon approached to get the anchor down so a quick move to the side of the wreck, Anchor down, Baits down, Fish on straight away, A Tope of 21lb this was soon followed by a Spurdog at 13lb but unfortunately a quiet spelt with only doggies followed until after slack which the kids produced another Spurdog of similar size and a single huss.
A good day all round with enough time for brews, butties, hotpot, walnut cake and Cherry sponge cake!
Nice to see a Mersey hounds species cards making a show for the new species.
Ps.... Plus a few very red necks thanks to that sun

So after hearing of Smoothies coming in from Liverpool and Prestatyn over the past week or so which is incrediblely early all I could think was that they had to come past our local area.

After a check of the forecast and a quick chat with a few freinds, We loaded up with crab and headed out...

Only 30 minutes of anchor, Plenty of Doggies and a few Codling then all of a sudden slack line... Wound into it and well Bad Boyz 2 opens up the Smooth-hound account for 2017 with a fine female of 7lb.

Another weekend past and another great time afloat!

The inshore reefs really are coming into there own now, Starting off both days fishing tight into North Stacks targeting the hard fighting Wrasse, Ballans and Cuckoos to be a little more specific.
2up1downs or sabiki's fished tight to the bottom accounted for 30 wrasse yesterday and just shy of 100 today, Fantastic sport with the right rods.
Following on from North Stacks a short move round the corner is South Stacks and the many reefs it holds. With rigs staying the same just a slight alteration in fishing depth started seeing Pollack, Coalie, Codling to 6lb hitting the back of the net with the odd Wrasse making a show, Quick more to the fangs and very much the same although much smaller fish averaging 1-2lb.

Wreck action - Saturday we hosted Bold Sea Anglers who book around 6 wrecking trips so trying to steam past a wreck is almost impossible nevertheless a great result with 8 drifts boating 25 Pollack to 9lb 4oz.

Holyhead Deeps - Mixed emotions, Yesterday we got absolutely plagued by Dogfish! Today however a slight change in area and a much better result, 25 Bull Huss to 14lb, 2 Tope to 20lb, Whiting and only 6 Doggies!

This last week has seen some great days afloat inshore making the most of what we have to offer on our doorstep, Fishing many of the local reefs, banks and hols within 5 miles of port keeping sailing times down and fishing time up.

Our crews have been rewarded with large hauls of Pollack and Coalies although mostly in the 1-2lb range there are a spattering of 3-4lb fish to be had for the table!
Other species have included large amounts of jumbo Mackerel, Ballal Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Codling, Pouting, Herring and Poorcod, all making for some great light tackle fishing.

Inshore anchor on this last set of spring tides had produced some lovely Bull Huss to 13 1/2lb, doggies, whitting, dabs, pouts, poorcods and the odd ray.

    ANNOUNCEMENT **

Here at Bad Boyz Charters we are happy to announce for 2017 that we will be working closely with the Scottish Shark Tagging Program.
Within this program we will be tagging Skate, Rays, Tope, Spurdog, Bull-Huss and Smooth-hounds caught on board the boat this season that meet the SSTP's minimal requirements for size/length.

Our main aim when fishing for any of these species is always catch and release, Safety of the fish is paramount to help gather data for future captures, I have no doubt this will be put to test on days fishing for skate or spurdogs with the boat record being 80+ we really have to make sure we tag what fish we believe to meet requirements.

In this day and age most people get caught up on having to pay the bills and working to make a living, Forgetting why we got into what we do in the first place.....For us that is THE LOVE OF FISHING.

So unfortunately today after we could'nt raise enough numbers to make a trip up, The perfect tides and weather could not go to waste, we decided to head out just me and dad to fish the slack water. Target area was the south edge of Holyhead deeps where we had a good haul of Spurdogs around 10 days ago.
Light rods tackled up, agility Tipsters and spinning rods to make it as enjoyable as possible rigged with 2 up style rigs, 5/0's and lumi muppets. Baits Mackerel and Squid.

From the anchor being down the action came thick and fast with dogies and bull huss to 13lb, The Spurdogs failed to show for the first hour until the tide started to ease and then boom the Spurs came to the baits, 19 in total between the two rods best just topping the scales at 16lb.

With the tide turned and baits running low we called it quits for the day, 19 spurdogs to 16lb / 14 bull huss to 13lb 8oz and countless doggies, not a bad way to spend 4 hours.....
Anchors up, tide behind pushing us in at 17knts what a great way to end an afternoons jolly.............
