The weather on Saturday was cool to start but bright, I have been away for what should have been a weeks holiday in Florida but the nice people in Iceland made me stay for an extra 10 days, How bads is that! so it was back to the spring fishing on the East Coast, I had a party of five and almost from the first cast we were in to THORNBACKS, we fished the last of the ebb and all the flood and had 47 THORNBACKS to 10 1/2 lb. Not bad for my first trip back.

The weather was all over the place , Strong winds heavy rain to start, bright sunshine calm seas then gail force winds and rain to finish, all we needed was snow thunder and lightening and we had the full works!!!! But on top of all that we we had a great day's fishing, Three anglers had 36 THORNBACKS to 13lb and 1 cod to 6lb, Kieth Hadrell landed the biggest THORNBACK.

What can you do on small tides? Around this part of the coast for uptideing we need the tide to run so neep tides can be hard to fish with not so much movement in the water the fish don't move about so much and that means the skipper can his work cut out!!!!
Yep, that's right, today was one of the smallest in this set of tides, after some thought ( yes i know skippers are not very good at that!) i went to a deep water mark to see if the THORNBACKS had arrived yet? Thankfuly they had , and in some numbers, The total was 31 THORNBACK'S to 12lb 8oz and a codling.

A late start today as this tripo is more of an outing for a family, After Sunday's trip i thought that we would go for some more THORNBACK'S, The tides were a bit smill for this mark but with the limited time that i had it would br our best shot.
Almost as soon as we anchored we were in to a fish, a THORNBACK about 6lb, not big but a start, as the tide began to run harder the fish movement increased. We landed about 10 to 11lb at this mark then we moved to see if we could get some CODLING,At the second mark we landed more 6 THORNBACK'S to 8lb and 8 CODLING to about 4lb. Not bad for a short trip.

At last we have some good weather and fish, Saturday we wenr t to look for some THORNBACKS and had 5 then went off to get some COD and managed to land 7.The wind freshend up in the afternoon and i think that didn't help with the numbers of CODLING.

Sunday and the weather was fine, light winds,a bright and warm day ,That helped with the fishing as we landed 16 THORNBACKS to 11lb and 8 CODLING.Some of the other boats that went for the COD landed a good number of doubles so i think we can expect some good fishing.

Fishing seems to be picking up with some good COD into double figures, THORNBACKS are starting to make an appearnce, although a bit patchy. As these tides start to drop off i think we will see more CODLING/COD and if the weather warms up more THORNBACKS,

We had bright sunshine and light winds, No, this was not a dream it was a day that we have only dreamed of for the last two or three months, This gent likes to book the boat on his own, then he can go out and come back when he wants, There was only three of them.
We pushed the tide to the mark i had in mind and dropped the anchor, 3/0 or 4/0 hooks sand smallish baits, If you go too big you will miss fish, we were fishing for about half an hour and we had the first fish, not large but it was a start, the fishing was steady up to high water, The ebb was slower but we did get some bigger fish, The total was 24 CODLING with 12 keepers up to 4lb
