The forcast for today was for strong winds , as we left this morning the wind was South West 3/4 and bright, I went to a mark that has fished OK this spring and as soon as we started fishing we had a CODLING, by high water we had 7 CODLING and as the tide started to ebb we started to get some fish, we landed 17 CODLING to 4lb, not bad for 6 hire rods.

Fishing over the weekend was ok on Saturday, The weather was fine with no wind but Sunday the wind and rain returned so it was a short day. Saturday the fishing inshore was much as it has been with CODLING from 10" to 4lb, Offshore the the fish seem to be returning with some better CODLING around 4/6lb, Let,s hope that this is the return of some good sport.

Fishing has started to pick up a bit, Over the last week we have seen a few more fish with some bigger CODLING mixed in,Over the next set of tides we should see more CODLING arrive and if it warms up a bit the THORNBACKS should start to make a comback.

Over the last week i have only been out on two trips and thats because i have told the anglers how the fishing has been, The first trip we only had 4 CODLING but the anglers said that they still enjoyed the day!from a skippers point of view that's good to hear,
The next trip was two day's later, at the first mark we only had 1 CODLING so a trip down memorey lane to fish a mark that we used to fish over twenty years ago when the fishing went slow, I had 5 hire rods but they did get 11 CODLING not big fish ( the biggest went about 18") but it was better than the last trip, lets hope it's not to long till we see more fish.

The last report i did was on the 28th December..... that shows how the weather has been with strong winds and the snow, I did manage to get out for three trips and the fishing has dropped off partly due to the sudden cold snap and the bigger fish have moved off to spawn,We will see them return and i think we will see a lot of smaller fish mixed in with them. I would expect to see a good run of fish start from mid Feb onwards.

I hope you all had a good christmas, That's it over for another year, Well nine months at least!!! My first trip back after christmas was our annual GOLDEN COD copetition that's held in the week between christmas and the new year, This year had the biggest entry we have had with over seventy anglers and around twenty private and charter boats. The main aim is to have FUN and raise money for the R N L I, all boats are limited to the RIVER BLACKWATER , fishing starts at 08 30 and finish is 15 00 and all fish to be weighed in by 16 00. Entry fee was £8 and that included a hot meal at the weigh in and with a raffel after we aim to raise as much as we can. The top honours this year were taken by lorrane Humphry ( biggest cod) Libby Walton (lady's biggest bag) aboard the EASTERN PROMISE, Steve Turner ( gent,s biggets bag) aboard the ENTERPRISE, with bright sunny weather and calm seas it was a big hit with all who took part. This year we beat last years total of £730.00 with a staggering £1059.00. Thanks go to all who took part, to all who gave to the raffel and all who dug deep in there pockets. We have set the date for next year it is the 28/12/2010. we do have spaces on boats for anglers and private boats are more than welcome to enter.

This must be the time to catch up on my reports, we still have snow on the ground and to make a change the wind is blowing so i have canclled my trip for today, So hear we go,over the last week we have seen mixed fortunes, the first day we had 34 COD up to 7lb and 3 THORNBACKS to 11 lb, The next day the wind was strong so that limited wher we could go and also the amount of fish, with only 9 COD to 6lb it was not one of my best days, The next day the wind had decreased, with six indeviduals i was able to try offshore, RThe first fish aboard was a 10 1/2lb COD to Jon Wesley a good start and the rest of the day went by well with another COD to7lb makeing the total 25 COD for the day,The next day i had 5 anglers hire ther boat, they landed 37 COD to 6l, Another great day.
