We have had gales all week so when the forcast was for "ONLY STRONG WINDS" we made the most of it, The wind was strong but we could get some shelter from the sandbanks and shoreline in the BLACKWATER, A short trip to a mark that fished well on these small tides last year and we were fishing, I had 9 hire rods on the RAZORBILL 2 but they are willing to learn so it gives you more time to help( and make tea!).
WHITING were the first fish aboard but then one of the rod nearly went over the side and after a good fight a fine THORNBACK RAY of 8lb was on the deck, After casting out again the angler had another one almost as soon as the bait hit the sea bed, A smaller THORNBACK RAY around 4lb,Not a bad start, The CODLING soon followed with fish up to 5lb, and thats,s how the day went, WE had 16 CODLING to 5lb, 4 THORNBACK RAYS to 8lb, WHITING,POUTS and DOGS, The day was bright and sunny and the wind decreased in the afternoon, As we went in the sun was going down over the land and the sea was calm, The anglers all had a great day and i have the best job in the world.

With the weather forcast for gales all week Tuesday will be the only day we will get out, It was a bright sunny day with a strong S West breeze we were able to fish the river, The flood gave us some sport with about 12 CODLING up to 6lb and some large WHITING, A short move on the Ebb and as the tide picked up the fish started to bite, With another 16 COD up to 7 1/2 and more big WHITING it was a good day.

With the weather on Friday and Saturday too bad to go out it was left to Sunday to get out, The forcast was 5 to 7 South West going South east but as i turned up at the FREE car park (you don,t have to pay to park when you go fishing) the rain stopped and the sun started to shine what a change from Saturday, With only two anglers on the boat there would be plenty of room, AS i have said before we are very lucky with our river it holds a lot of good fish and with 14 COD up to 7lb and lots of Whiting we had plenty to do.

Well over the past week the fishing has improved with more and better size fish landed on the boat,CODLING from 2 1/2lb up to 11lb, We are still getting numbers of THORNBACK RAY with the largest i have landed on the boat a fine fish of 15lb, WHITINGS are more numerous with good size fish up to 2lb, DABS are starting show up in more numbers and we are still getting DOGFISH. I would expect the COD fishing to get better with more and better fish but i think the THORNBACK RAYS will start to thin out as we get into DECEMBER, We still have one or two dates free before Christmas for indeviduals/groups so give me a ring. You can see more at my web site.

Over the past week or so we have been out most day,s, The fishing has been very mixed with some days fishing very well and the next day the fish have been harder to find, But then "that,s fishing". The catches of COD have been better in size with fish from 3lb up to double figure, SKATE are still making an apperance catching 6 some days along with the COD and WHITING, The fish have moved inshore now so we will not lose many day,s to bad weather, The river BLACKWATER is fishing well some day,s with as many as 20 CODLING up to 10lb and lot,s of WHITING and DABS.

Well it,s about time that we started seeing a good run of COD and this last week we have been catching some good fish, The main size has been around 4 to 6lb with some good doubles landed over the weekend, We are still getting some good THORNBACKS up to 10lb with numbers of WHITING that we havent seen for a long time,
Now that the CODLING have moved inshore we will not lose too many trips to strong winds, The next few months will be the best time for COD fishing with the bigger fish moving in around December and the start of January.I would expect to see a lot of 15lb + fish, The fish in the picture is a 12 1/2lb COD caught on Sunday is that the start of the bigger ones?

Well with the strong winds that we have had it has not been easy to get to the marks that we would fish at this time of the year but it has made us work harder to find the fish for our customers, We are still getting some good Smothounds and Skate but the Codling are starting to show with more each trip and with Bass, dogs ,whiting and some good Dabs we have been getting some good mixed bags If you haven,t booked for the winter Cod season yet Start thinking now! After last years fantastic season this year looks like it will be as good with bigger fish, I have had reports that the fish are much bigger so don,t be dissapointed!!!
