Also the fishing has been exceptional so far this year with good numbers of all fish species now showing. The cod fishing has been awesome and the anglers competing in this years festival should be looking forward to some of the best sea angling available anywhere in the UK”
Where Will The Event Take Place ? – The event will take place each day (weather permitting) from the harbour at Whitby with boats sailing from both east and west sides of the river, please see our website at www.wcsa.co.uk for boat details.

James raised the bar yesterday in the sea urchin fish of the month comp (free and automatic entry to all sea urchin anglers) with a fantastic cod of 16lb2oz which was also a PB for James his previous weighed 12lb which he caught two years ago on one of my charters, the fishing was brilliant yesterday with fish coming aboard at every stop wrecks ground and all within 5mls of Whitby the algae is almost gone and most of the cod fell to shads although James 16lber fell to a full squid on the ground summer is just around the corner and all anglers gain free entry to my fish of the month even throughout the festivals

Brian and his huge Pollacks
Had Brian Cope on and his partner Sunday along with 9 lads from sheffield the weather was perfect for a run off to the distant wrecks and the long journey proved worth while plenty of cod but the best sport was with the pollack which are showing more and more this time of the year here in Whitby Brian managed a cracking fish of just over 15lbs along with a few more well over 10lb the 15 lber is a new pollack record for sea urchin II over the last few years they seem to be getting bigger our previous best was 13lb last year lets hope this is the future because the sport they offer is absolutely fantastic -

After Saturdays poor inshore fishing possibly due to the murky sea and swell combined Sundays trip had to be another long off shore wrecking haul but boy was it worth it for Brian Cope who beat his personal best with a marvelous Pollock of just over 15lb also I might add a Sea Urchin best ever Pollock
the boat was mainly full of novice anglers who also caught plenty of cod on the bait but the pollock were the main sport I think Brian landed four all over 10lb and one around 13lb I managed to land one just over 8lb in between untangling and re rigging the novice boys from Sheffield but a great day and well worth the trip out the festival looks to me like a pollock winner allthough we did see a double figure ling as well on the boat Sunday but my money is on the pollock in this years spring festival lets just hope the weather stays fine -

The weather forecast has been irritating of late I cancelled today because of the strong wind forecast in place from a northerly direction and we could have got out after all drat,
However we did get out yesterday (Friday) again a strong wind was forecast but south westerly in direction and our only real option was up tiding not ideal as the tides were perfect for wrecking double drat.
Still the group I had on board had travelled all the way from Dagenham and the sea was flat under the cliffs so we had to give it a go
I called in at Whitby angling supplies to stock up on bait and we departed at 8am the only place to go whare there would be any tide and shelter was robin hoods bay north cheek and to be honest I did not expect much fish with recent poor reports from the long liners and netters angling was going to be hard.
And to be honest it was slow but fish did come aboard in dribs and drabs a good few fell to worm (wish I had bought more in the morning) and squid cocktails.
The best fish was around 8lb another six or so were around 6lb, another six around 5lb and the rest about ten coming in around 3lb in total around 25 fish in around 6 hours fishing.
not bad realy but would have preferred to get on the wrecks but at least we got out
