The weather is lovely and there's a great mix of species coming out this week including bass, smooth-hounds, rays, dogfish, whiting and more.

Fishing has been busy over the last few trips. Fish are on the baits immediately now and we've had a great variety.
Our main targets have been smooth-hounds, rays and bass with various other fish mixed in depending where we are.
We were surprised to fish one mark the other day where there were so many school bass we eventually moved as we were struggling to get through them. Baits Weren't even hitting the bottom before another one was rattling the rod tip! There's been some sizable ones showing too now.
Most of the smooth-hounds have been relatively small but still welcome and with most trips producing around 20 they have increased in numbers too.
Most trips have seen one or two rays which is nice to see but unfortunately nothing like the numbers we had a few years ago.
I have spaces over the Easter weekend with inshore and offshore trips available for individuals and groups.

Although Essex isn't often accociated with plaice nowadays they can still be caught in the right places. Infact the numbers have been pretty good when we have tried for them the last couple of years. We will be putting a few trips together for them over the next couple of months for those who are interested. We can tie in fishing for other species too such as bass and of course there's other stuff coming out on the plaice gear like gurnard and other flaties.
I will try and advertise some suitable tides nearer the time but if you are interested in joining us as a group or individual then please get in touch and I'll send some dates through.
In the meantime the fishing is really ramping up for us now. Even on our general trips are producing a wide variety of species.
I have availability for groups and individuals over the next week and the Easter weekend.

It was a bright and breezy weekend with the easterly wind and small tides against us. Thankfully there was no shortage of bites with whiting and dogfish keeping us busy. We found some hounds and thornbacks to make things interesting for the guys Saturday. The fish are here now so I'm looking forward to getting out there and catching them.

It's great to see things finally shaping up on with the spring species now showing in better numbers. Good news regarding bass too. As of yesterday we you are allowed to keep two per angler per day again until the end of January next year. Now you just need to catch them! They will be making up ouch catches along with the smooth-hounds and rays over the coming weeks and I've no doubt we will be seeing countless dogfish and whiting and various other species too. It's always great to see different species and we weren't disappointed the other day. The bulk of the day might have been made up with whiting, dogfish and pouting but Ivan managed to sneak out a tub gurnard, there was a micro dab and a couple of tiny conger too.
This weekend we'll be in search of spring time rays, hounds and bass.
I have spaces Saturday and Sunday currently then into next week after that.

Things are starting to look up now with a few small hounds showing over the last week or two. There's not been loads to trouble the landing net the last couple of trips but the tides were tiny so hopefully these building tides will push some better fish in.
Stanley looks less happy about being photographed with a tiddler than Steve does.
The water temperature is rising rapidly, the tides are building and the close season for bass ends next week so things are looking up.

Despite such a fantastic forecast we cancelled last week's trips. The inshore fishing just hasn't been up to scratch lately. I gave the lads the option to wait a couple of weeks and I got on with some jobs at home. It seems to be a sign of the times and I certainly don't intend making a habit of cancelling trips with perfect weather.
The weather did mean that the jobs were done quickly and looking out at such perfect conditions we couldn't resist nipping out for a few hours.
Nick had grafted on my block work at home so it was nice to see him get his first ray of the year. Dad was doing well with dogfish and a dab while I managed a roker too. I was really pleased to find a couple of roker fairly easily and I'm sure they are the sign of things to come as this spring sunshine warms the water up. I'm looking forward to having a run offshore this week and pretty confident the inshore fishing will be on form by the next set of tides.

Spaces this weekend aboard Galloper from brightlingsea Essex.
The tides are great for a flattie bash inshore Sunday and we are hoping to get offshore Saturday for hounds, spurs and rays ect.
The dabs won't be around in numbers much longer so this might be our last chance to get a feed of them before we start our spring fishing next month.
They might not strip line from the reels but they can be great fun in light tackle and taste great.
