I thought I'd do a little reminder of last year's plaice fishing. We had a couple of sessions on them in late spring and early summer. The stamp wasn't huge but the numbers were there and probably the best I've seen for over 15 years. There were plenty of double shots of plaice and various other species mixed in too. We tried to combine it with some bass fishing at one end of the day or the other as well. It's been great to see a nice mix of fish coming out on our general trips despite the weather. There have been some nice hounds, bass and rays showing as well as the usual dogs, whiting and other bits and bobs. There's no shortage of bites to keep the rods going and thankfully we can still get out to our many sheltered marks in this weather. I have spaces over the weekend and into next week so please get in touch if you want to join us.

Thankfully the fishing has been pretty good inshore on some of the windy days lately. The lads saw some decent rays amongst the whiting and dogfish along with some decent bass for the time of year and so close in. It's good to know that we can put you on some quality fish in most conditions now. There have been bass on most trips lately and as of today you can keep two per angler per day until the end of December (should you be lucky enough to catch them).

There's been a few more hounds and bass showing closer in over the last few trips. The lads from Suffolk police had the most hounds lately with 14 for the day though nothing huge. The bass are increasing in numbers too and there are some nice rays coming out too. Of course if you are really lucky then you could catch a whiting or dogfish!
Still a few spaces over the Easter weekend if you want to join us and plenty more space over the coming weeks.

Just a little reminder of what the offshore trips can produce from brightlingsea in the spring. These pictures are some of last year's fish but this year's trips are in full swing and I will report on those at the end of the season as usual so it's no good waiting for reports before booking. As well as spurs we can catch smooth hounds, thornback ray, bass, cod and even things like blonde rays on these trips. All sorts of species can show which keeps it interesting between the doggies and whiting. Our best day last year was 64 spurs and lots around the 20lb mark. I offer full boat bookings or individual spaces and have availability both offshore and on general trips in the coming weeks so please get in touch. No other local boats can offer the same track record on these trips as I can.

Mark and the lads had some nice bass and small smooth hounds the other day in between loads of dogfish, whiting and pouting. It was nice to see Adam getting a pb bass on some light tackle. He worked hard for that fish in a bit of rain.
Still some spaces remaining for Sundays trip and next week.

It's been great to see some nice bass and hounds coming out lately. These fish are some of the stockiest bass you will see as they are ready to spawn. The biggest fell to Barry wood and is a new pb for him at just over 10.8lbs. we normally try to release these big females regardless but it's closed season anyway. However it's nice to see a few bass showing ahead of the season starting on the 1st of April.

It was great to see the lads from Suffolk police the other day. The doggies kept them busy between the rays, whiting, pouting, a bass and a dab. There were certainly no shortage of bites and the lads fished hard as they always do.
It's nice to see plenty of life out there as things warm up and we see increasing amounts of summer species show.

Mark looks happy with his codling from the other day. Lol. Sorry the picture was awful, we were more interested in getting the dear little thing back in the water. The doggies are feeding well now and there have been some better rays mixed in with the smaller ones too. It won't be long before the hounds and bass start showing inshore too. We are already catching them further off.

It was great to catch up with some of the regulars the other day. Barry was top rod with 4 rays to his name. The other lads had plenty of fish as well including whiting dogfish and several more rays.
