Malcolm and the lads had a nice trip between the 3 of them the other day. There were a few bigger female rays mixed in which looks like the start of the spring run. They had 15 rays all together as well as dogfish, whiting, pouting and codling. Hopefully the building tides will push some more fish in for the weekend. We have spaces Saturday and the full boat available Sunday 10th . If you want to join us please call me on 07956412528

The cod are in! Look at this giant tony caught. Possibly a skrei cod following the herring down lol. In reality it was small but perfectly formed and offers hope for years to come. The rays aren't in huge numbers but we have been finding a few between the whiting, dogfish, pouting, dabs and hounds so there's plenty to catch at the moment.
I have spaces this coming weekend and midweek over the next few weeks.

Apologies for the lack of reports lately. We have had the boats out of the water and have been moving house so I haven't had time to deal with too many calls and messages. However now things are coming together and spring isn't far away looking at the daffodils that already flowering.
With the weather generally being mild the fish have been feeding well most of the way through the winter. Our last trip produced plenty of whiting and dogfish with a few dabs and even a bass. The lads had one or two rays each and nick even managed a rocking (not too common from the boat). I have spaces this weekend offshore weather permitting from Sunday (03rd) onwards. I will try and get back on track with reports from now on as I know many of you have been asking.

if you are a sea angler beach or boat either fanatical or occasional and you have fished around the greater Thames Estuary then it is likely you have fished for thornback rays. if you have fished here the last few years you will undoubtedly noticed the steep decline in their numbers. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
please take the time to fill out this survey, attend an online meeting, or voice your opinion in some official way to try and get sea angling the recognition it deserves. we seem to be under represented when ever it matters so please stand up and be counted. it wont take long, you invest money into angling weather it is by spending it on charter boats, tackle, bait, traveling or taking time off. protect your investment by taking part now.
i'm not sure what the rules are about sharing the links on here but i have put them on my own social media and website

Just back from a very pleasant 4hr trip with Aaron and the lads hiring the boat between the 3 of them. The weather was bright and breezy for most of the trip but thankfully there were plenty of fish within the sheltered waters of the blackwater and Colne estuaries. We had a thornback ray first cast as well as braces of whiting and dabs to get us off the mark. The fish weren't huge but very welcome as was a trip on the boat to blow the Christmas cobwebs away. We had a couple more rays before we had to head in and managed to beat the worse of the weather. It was great to see the lads enjoy their trip and get a few fish despite the strong wind.
It looks like there could be a little less wind at the weekend so I will try to get a trip or two together. Please contact me if you want to join us.

Although the influx of sprats has slowed down some of the fishing currently there are still fish to be caught. The other day there were still plenty of whiting to be caught although the stamp was smaller than a few weeks ago. Gorden was pretty good at catching dabs as well as a small ray and several of the whiting were a better size and ideal for the table.
I am trying to arrange a couple of days over the Xmas period so if you want to get out then please get in touch. After that my next spaces are at the end of January.
Otherwise have a great Christmas and I will try to put some more interesting content on here for you to read over the next few weeks.
Spaces between now and the 1st of January aboard Galloper from brightlingsea Essex please call 07956411528

There are still one or two rays hanging around inshore to be caught. These are a welcome break from the whiting which are a little smaller in places than they were a few weeks ago. The arrival of sprats has distracted many of the larger whiting and codling inshore. Even the dogfish have slowed with the drop in temperature. Thankfully the occasional ray puts a better bend in the rod. Of course inshore there Is fun to be had targeting flatties. Further offshore there will be more variety available. Those doggies will still be feeding well but between them there will be a better chance of rays, hounds, spurs, cod and bass. For that we will need some better weather though. Looking ahead to the Christmas break and there may be a chance to get offshore if you fancy it. If you just want a social then I will try and put something together inshore. I may even arrange a charity comp if there's enough interest.

There have been plenty of dabs about lately. These little flat fish are a welcome sight on a winters day. We decided to have the afternoon targeting them the other day and sure enough there were plenty caught and some over a foot long too. At times there were double and triple shots which made a nice change to the triple shots of whiting we had been getting before hand. Stephen was probably top rod with 27 dabs for his efforts.
I have spaces aboard Galloper from brightlingsea Essex over the next week and Christmas period so please get in touch if you want to join us.

The Braintree sea anglers had a nice general trip the other day. There were plenty of bites throughout the day. Mostly whiting and dogfish but a few pouting and dabs showed too. There were a few rays caught throughout the day although no monsters but always welcome. It was a pleasant day out in the winter sun despite a chilly start. I have a few days with individual spaces and boat availability before new year. So please get in touch to join us aboard Galloper.

We managed to get offshore again for bass the other day. This time it was bait fishing at anchor. The drop in water temperature had taken its toll and the fishing was harder than earlier in the autumn. Having said that there were still plenty of bites. Mark and myself had fish throughout the day although the stamp was smaller than earlier in the year there were a few nice keepers amongst them.
I have spaces this week offshore bass fishing weather permitting. We aim to be on lures mainly and normally the stamp is better.
