It's always nice to see Tony and the lads and they had a great day on the bass the other day. There was a mixed stamp of fish coming out but some decent ones among them. The lads had 10-15 each and a few other bits and bobs too such as whiting and dogfish in between the bass. It might not be what we traditionally expect but who can knock fishing like this in November?
I have spaces over the next few weeks for groups and individuals for bass and general trips. Not all dates advertised.

We've been making the most of the weather and getting lots of offshore bass fishing in. The fishing hasn't disappointed at all with plenty of mackerel for lives when we need them. Lots of tub gurnard showing and of course the bass too. There were some decent fish on lives and then a really hectic time on lures to end the day. Stanley was pleased with his colourful gurnards to start with before the bass. It was nice to see him catch some bass on lures after pestering me for ages to use them. He's not doing too badly for 3 years of age. Most of the lads were catching a fish a drop towards the end so god knows what the final tally of bass was. Hopefully we get a good few more trips off there over the next few weeks.

With several bass coming out and bathed in warm sunshine it was easy to forget we were fishing inshore at the end of October! As expected there were loads of whiting and dogfish to keep us busy but surprising numbers of bass for the time of year.
Of course there are far more bass offshore but it's nice to know we can still get one or two inshore. In fact we had caught bass on every trip since we've been back.
Next spaces are on Thursday then into next week.

As always it was great to see Jon and the lads the other day. Just over a week since I'd seen them last but this time it was in Essex chasing bass rather than Devon chasing tuna.
The fishing didn't disappoint and the lads had steady fishing with a mixed stamp of bass throughout the day. 10-15 bass each and some on lures too.
The weather wasn't bad either as you can see.
I've got spaces on general trips and offshore bass trips this week and beyond if you want to join us.

We've been very busy since our return from Devon and Cornwall. The offshore bass fishing hasn't disappointed and was definitely worth coming back for. We had a wild trip out there the other day and there were fish of all sizes coming out. We only fished the first mark until 12.30 and the lads had an average of 10 bass each and had achieved their bag limit of 2 keepers each within the first couple of hours.
Steve was on fire and had the biggest fish which went 8.3lb.
Inshore there's loads of life. Mostly dogfish and whiting to keep us busy but if you fish through them we've had a few bass here too along with thornback rays and even a conger eel.
I have availability for individuals and boat bookings over the coming weeks.

That's us finished at Plymouth now. It's been great fun down here the last few weeks. The weather has been kind to us, the fish have been amazing and the people have made it. Thanks to those who joined us this year for your support. You will get first refusal on next year's dates. Thanks to those who helped me set the boat up, and cart everything around. Stephen Charles particularly as well as Steve canham, Martin and dad.
Also thanks to the locals who made us feel very welcome you were all very approachable and friendly.
I've got dropped the hammers on The Galloper and we're currently heading back to Essex to make the most of the autumn bass fishing.
Stacey and the boys have gone ahead of me so I can't wait to see them soon.
I also owe Stacey a big thanks for letting us spend a fortune, drag her and the boys across the country to satisfy my obsession with fish.
Now for the long steam home. Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast!

Just a quick update, the tuna fishing continues to be great down here in Plymouth. We have fished a variety of conditions over the last week to put it lightly but the tuna have been obliging regardless. Everyone who has fished for tuna aboard galloper has now caught a tuna if not several which is all I can ask for. With the amount of fish showing we should be able to keep this up too.
I have individual spaces and possibly room for a boat booking this week aboard galloper from Plymouth yacht haven marina.

It's hard to believe that we could just casually pop out for a few hours in the afternoon and get Stacey our first tuna from Plymouth this year. It was also our first in the chair which works a treat. Fishing has been good so far with everyone catching at least one tuna each if not two or three in a day. Theres been quiet spells and mad spells with multiple hook ups (no matter how hard we tried to avoid them). We have caught them on stand up gear as well as the chair and lots of the lads prefer the chair.
I have a single angler booked the boat for himself for the next few days so Stacey and the boys are coming to help me. I think I can boast the best looking crew in the fleet at least! I have spaces for individuals and boat bookings next week for tuna ideally though we can mix it up if you want.
Currently the boat is available for groups or individuals on 30/09-04/10 from Plymouth. Please call 07956411528 for more information

We have been really enjoying our time down here in Falmouth. It's been everything we hoped for and in general the weather has been kind to us. After several years of bad weather on our south coast adventures it's been very welcome. We even managed to sneak offshore for a long trip which requires a lot of ducks to line up. The conditions were far from perfect but they were good enough and the fishing was amazing. From the first drop we were catching decent fish and getting bites non stop. While we were still getting settled there were double and treble shots of spurs dogs coming out as well as a cracking haddock for Steve hill. One of the big rods took us by surprise as it arched over having been down just minutes. The one unrolled and spat the hook which was a shame but as it turned out not the end of the world. We quickly discovered that blue sharks were very plentiful despite having no chum out! We nicked a couple here and there but only put a rod over as pest control every now and then when they were becoming a nuisance. Steve hill posed for a picture of the smallest against his will but there were several 50-80lb fish there too. The k were on the baits pretty quickly to be honest and for a while it was a fish or bite or dropped fish every drop. They varied in size a fair bit and we only measured the wingspan of biggest which was 48 inches and pretty deep too. Nick had this one as one of many firsts for him on the trip. As darkness fell the sea was alive with saury on the surface which would scatter as a shark passed by. We also had a saury jump in the boat. We managed a porgie pup to finish the trip too. We had 8 skate to the boat and lost another 4/5 probably skate or maybe bigger fish. This was well worth the trip, far more life than I expected and I can't wait to head back when I can.
I was surprised that we didn't see any tuna, that's probably because most of them are back inshore where we have been catching them! In fairness we tried lives for them while we were offshore but we couldn't get through the blues. I wish I had that problem at home!
Please call 07956411528 for tuna availability over the next few weeks from Plymouth

The rest of the lads joined us for their first day in Falmouth today. The weather wasn't amazing so we planned an easy day inshore.
We started off looking for mackerel and reef fish. After a few Pollock, poor cod, cuckoo wrasse, scad, mackerel and a john dory we could see birds and tuna working very close in and couldn't resist having a go for them. Luckily we put some basic gear aboard just in case.
So we had a quick tidy up of the deck and got things organised. I wasn't long before the first tuna was making the accurate scream. This was a powerful fish and a handful on stand up gear and a rocking boat. After leading us on a pretty good dance we had it alongside the galloper to be measured, photographed and released. It was a nice fish of 75 inches and pretty plump too. Not bad for Steve's first one.
The fish had gathered again and we had another run through hooking up straight away. This fish was determined to empty most of the reel as we got the other gear out of the way. Unfortunately this one didn't want to hang around and so Stephen had to bring several hundred yards of line back in with no fish attached. He did say this was probably easier than having a tuna attached though. The fish broke up a bit after this and we decided not to get distracted by tuna and concentrate on the other species. We anchored a wreck and had a nice long to start with, some congers, whiting and pouting before heading home. We are meant to be general fishing the next few days but the tuna fishing is pretty hot at the moment so we might try and sneak one or two more out before starting our proper tuna trips.
