    period 9th til 17th July.......

the wind has been kind and has allowed us out to fish the offshore banks and holes, drift the reefs and fish in the weeds for pollack.
the mackerel were scarce at the early part of the reporting period but now seem to be present in good numbers with strings of 4-6 the norm instead of the occasional. There has been a plague of mini grey gurnards with some red and tubs thrown in.doggies are ever present but the huss and spurdogs remain elusive with only a couple here and there.lots of flapper size whiting around with coalies, the odd dab, small ling and pouting thrown in.
the haddock are around in good numbers upto 2.5lb,codling the same but slightly larger.
plenty of pollack in the weeds to mackerel strip or ragworm with the Paisley boys taking over 100 pollack upto 4.5lb in two 1hr sessions at either end of the day last sunday.
some nice ballan wrasse are showing and the one in the photo weighed 4lb and was caught close in at the harbour entrance

20 May 2017 by dominic wilson

    saturday 20th may.....

finally the offshore bank decided to produce fish and what quality and amount did it produce!
after consulting with the boys afloat , it was agreed that we had landed in excess of 60 spurdogs with all but a couple over 10lb....the majority were in the 12-14lb bracket with the best at 17lb.The same amount of bull huss were landed with the biggest weighing 14lb....notable catches were Ron who had a double huss hookup with fish of 12.5lb and 8lb on the same line and Mike who landed a 14lb spurdog and an 8lb huss on a short dropper muppet rig.
preferred baits again were whiting or haddock flapper or mackerel head.
10 mackerel were landed along with grey gurnards, haddock, codling and whiting plus huss and spurs.
for the statistics,it is probable that we landed over 700lb of spurdog and around 500lb of bullhuss.....not bad for 6 anglers on a 7hr trip!!!
mike butterworth(pictured with a pb of 17lb) had a red letter day landing over 20 spurs and 10 huss
