Ray fishing is really good at the moment. Odyssey SAC landing 60 rays on Sunday between 6 anglers, with top rod for the day being Paul Evans with 16 rays. Top baits are mackerel and squid. Saturdays trip was a mixed party again the rays were there in good numbers with Declan Williams (aged 13) having a good day. Hopefully the whiting will arrive in the next few weeks.

Fishing remains steady when the wind allows us to go to our chosen marks. Smoothounds are still around in decent numbers, small eyed rays are now there in good numbers, with a spell of decent weather I`m sure the bream will come back in good numbers too.

Now that the May weed has started to clear here fishing has improved. Today`s party from Mountain Ash had a go at the Hounds, trip organiser Daniel Grant got off to a flying start with a nice hound first cast. The fish came to the boat steadily all day with a total of 79 being landed throughout the day. Top rod for the day was Luke Lewis with 18, but Matthew Parfitt pushed him all the way finishing on 15. Daniel also landed a nice Bass of 5lb 14oz which was returned to fight another day. Most of the fish landed today were in the 9lb-12lb bracket but after catching the first fish of the day Daniel also caught the last a nice Hound and biggest at 13lb 2oz. Well done boys look forward to seeing you in July.

Seren y Mor is now back in the water fishing after an engine refit over the winter. The May weed is now showing signs of clearing here and on Sunday we had our first good catch of Mackerel. The Smoothounds are now present in good numbers and the Tope are due at anytime.

    Report on-board Seren y Mor

The weather played a big part in the fishing again this month with strong winds restricting where we could fish, the mackerel moved offshore and the inshore fishing became patchy. The ray fishing is now very good with 30 fish in a couple of hours not uncommon. Evening bass trips proved ok with fish up to 6lb. We had several parties trying their hand at the species comps. these trips are getting more popular every year.

    Report on-board Seren y Mor

July has come and gone and thankfully we had some decent weather at last, fishing throughout July was generally good with the settled weather allowing the mackerel to shoal and stay inshore. The smoothounds hung around for most of the month and the pack tope put in an appearance on the inshore reefs, bream fishing remains patchy but there are plenty of dabs on the inshore banks. Over the last couple of weeks the ray fishing has picked up on the eastern marks with 18/20 fish a tide not uncommon, also we`ve picked up some nice bass to 6lb. Lets hope we`ll get some decent weather during August to get offshore.

Fished today with Chris Chawro`s party from Stourport on Severn. Weather perfect to start (for a change) light SW winds and sunshine, though it did cloud over in the afternoon with some drizzle. After trying two different marks the Mackerel came aboard in good numbers with enough for the day being caught in 10 mins. At our first mark the Smoothounds came to the boat in decent numbers with novices Rich Carter and Matt Turton getting amongst the hounds, at our second mark Dan Chowra stole the show with some nice Thornbacks, back to our original mark for a last go for the hounds were Steve Todd finished off his catch of 6 hounds with a nice fish of 15lb 4oz. An enjoyable day with the boys also catching Dabs, Bull Huss, Gurnard, Turbot and Tope.

Fished today with a group of lads from the Bridgend area and at last the wind has eased leaving us fish where we want to not where the wind lets us ! Mackerel were a bit thin on the ground first thing so rather than waste time looking for them we got the anchor down. Plenty of Smoothounds and Bull Huss came aboard on the rough ground followed by some Tope and more Bull Huss in the deeper water, quite a lot of Gurnard, Tub and Red showing also. I`m sure if the weather holds the fishing will only get better.

Fished again today with the Danglers SAC from Milford Haven, conditions not great to start with a South Easterly 5 and rain giving a wet, lumpy ride to our first mark, the rain eased by lunch time but the wind continued to gust all day. We decided to see if the Smoothounds had arrived with the boys bringing plenty of crab. First into the fish was Jason Dennis quickly followed by Dave Frampton, these two fished hard throughout the day for top rod with Jason coming out on top with the biggest Hound at 13lb 2oz and most Hounds with 13. Ian Pratt took another nice Hound at 13lb and after a slow start Mike Steer took some nice fish to 11lb 4oz and a Blonde Ray of 10lb 8oz. Biggest fish of the day went to Clive Jones with a Conger of 18lb. with over 50 Hounds landed the signs are looking good for the Smoothound season.
