had a trip out on bankholiday monday 06/05/13 was arranged to leave port at 5am for a 1.5-2hr steam for a offshore bash for the skate on board was skipper ron his lad dan ,ian darren mark time went very quick as we had a few laughs,as we came to our spot darren and mark were shocked to see clear water they only fish inshore where the water is very dirty ,from the start we had skate dogfish you could see the fish come up from the deeper water swiming towards you ,the sun was out beating the warm air on us ron made a cup of tea for us which is a very rare thing ,it was fishing at a steady pace for some of us but a few people were not getting any bites which i think was down to them not fishing on the bottom ,around 12pm ron heated a curry for us that i made which kept every one very quite for 10 min then it was back down to fishing catching more skate and dogfish in the end we packed up around 5pm for the trip home ,we had around 28 skate loads of dogfish dan mark and darren got to work in skining the skate which didnt take to long when you have got a production line like that ,a great day out with ron and the boys cant wait for the next trip ,if any one wants a great day out give ron a ring he will put him self out just to find you the fish well done mate

had a great weekend over the bank holiday with the alge bloom hindering the in shore fishing I steamed off to find clear water and some nice big fish

On Saturday Karl Dave Nico and Mark made up a individual bookings so we had plenty of room to say the least with just four (the minimum I could take to make it worth while for me anyway) once we arrived we were into fish Pollock Cod and some nice big ones to 10lb we all fished shad most of the day and although the sea was choppy it fell away to give us a great afternoon the forecasters got it right hurray!
Sunday I had just four bookings again forum member Jonty came with his pal Kevin and new to me were Simon and his wife Chrissie same plan steam off but a much nicer start weather wise the fishing was a little slower although the water looked much clearer? Still plenty of fish on the go Chrissie was first to strike then again and again she had three or four before any of the others had seen a life but eventually all ended up with some nice fish and yours truly landed a good strong Cod over 10lb which fell to the shad
Monday the boat had 7 anglers aboard Bob Richard Paul and Sam made up a three and Simon came with his dad and another sorry for the names I forgot again many forum members I employed the same plan with the best forecast of the holiday weekend we set sail in the sun and returned in the sun we had much better stamp generally and more fish for some reason the water was green agin but changed depending on tide strength during the day I think Richard had the best day bait fishing most of the day he landed some crackers and a best Pollock around 12lb a guess as my scales were broken as the fish was only showing 2lbs on the digital read the fishes head would have weighed nearly a pound so in the bin they went then some big double figure cod finished of with a few nice ling
Simon also had some great fish in his bag at the end of the day as did all the rest of the lads

in all good signs that the summer inshore fishing is only round the corner

What a great day out, lots of fish, lots of laughs, even the weather was on our side for a change (we haven't had a lot of luck with the weather this year so far, but this made up for a lot of the rough old trips). All trips should be like this but even in the rougher trips this winter I've never had a trip on Highflyer when I haven't enjoyed myself. I only went for the dabs because Chalky said he wanted some for his granddaughter. a poor excuse I know but it's the only one I can think of.

Lovely start to the day weather wise, unfortunately tide caught us little bit wrong so a bit of waiting around. Made the decision to wait inshore been caught out before, paid off with the lovely skate pictured , both falling to Mitch one 11Lb 1oz the other esimated between 4 and 5lb. Few doggie showed up for us first of the season, glad to see them! As tide weakened headed north out to a skate mark which produced nothing very strange never failed before. wind became a bit strong at this point so we decided to head back in to our original mark for shelter. Ended up with countless doggies , the two skate from same mark, couple of flatties thrown in. Thanks to Stu for organizing the lads, Terry, young Owen, Kev,Rob,Clive, with Lee ,first timer all way from Bedford, appreciate you travelling, also Mitch todays champion, and Collin and Ron, was a most enjoyable day with good banter as usual, hope this season proves a good one. Nice to see you all, All the best. Jon.

Craig and his pals from Network Rail in Manchester had some nice fish today.
Graham landed the biggest fish of the season so far aboard Mistress - An absolutely belting 26lb Ling.
It came from a distant wreck some 2 1/2 hour steam away from port. Caught on squid bait just as the flood tide started pushing.
Graham was using our Daiwa Hire tackle kindly donated by Daiwa earlier this year.
It consisted of a 20/30 Sea Hunter and a Slosh 30 multiplier
Well done Graham

Saturdays forecast wasn't the greatest and considering it was predicted to blow 20mph, it was actually blowing 35mph. We still managed to find some fish, but the weather cut our day short.
Sunday was a better forecast and the offshore banks were the target. fishing wasn't fast and furious but steady and over the course of the day the species and numbers of fish racked up. schoolie bass, dabs, skate, codling, pouting and the ever present thames tiger shark (LSD).
Monday was a local trip and by far the best day for numbers of fish although the species list was down. Plenty of skate was the order of the day mainly good sized fish too in the 8 to 10 lb bracket, with the biggest of the day going 11.5lb. Most of the maids went back, but the boys were not so lucky. The crew went home with a good feed of fishUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Hard Labour

We headed out to the first mark to pick up the last of the flood and despite having a small Thornback first cast, did not produce much else other than Dogs so we moved to yesterdays spot for the ebb, in hope of similar fish to yesterday............and we weren't disappointed.
As per yesterday the first of the ebb produced a couple of Thornback, nice fish again of 9lb and 11lb. Mid tide we picked up one or two Cod of around the 5lb mark (as per yesterday) and another couple of Thornbacks and as the tide started to ease we were tempted to have a move but then Cliff landed a Thornback of 12lb+, we had another of 11lb to the rod of Simon Ward and another couple of Cod, one to Derk and one to Cliff, and the biggest of the day at a shade over 11lb (pictured).
Ended up with a total of 11 Thornback, 6 Cod, loadsa dogs....however, Cliff did lose ANOTHER Bass!!! sorry Cliff!lol
Cracking day, cheers chaps.
